1 GENERAL TECHNICAL DATA Specificatins, Directives and Standards The Camden prducts listed in this catalgue are develped and manufactured accrding t the rules set ut in IEC internatinal publicatins and EN Eurpean standard. Specificatins Internatinal Specificatins The Internatinal Electrtechnical Cmmissin, IEC, which is part f the Internatinal Standards Organizatin, ISO, publishes IEC publicatins which act as a basis fr the wrld market. Eurpean Specificatins The Eurpean Cmmittee fr Electrtechnical Standardisatin (CENELEC), gruping 18 Eurpean cuntries, publishes EN standards fr lw vltage industrial apparatus. These Eurpean standards differ very little frm IEC internatinal standards and use a similar numbering system. The same is true f natinal standards. Cntradicting natinal standards are withdrawn. Harmnised Eurpean Specificatins The Eurpean Cmmittees fr Standardisatin (CEN and CENELEC), gruping 18 Eurpean cuntries, publish EN standards relating t safety f machinery. Specificatins in Canada and the USA These are equivalent, but differ markedly frm IEC, UTE, VDE and BS specificatins. UL Underwriters Labratries (USA) CSA Canadian Standards Assciatin (Canada) Remark cncerning the label issued by the UL (USA). Tw levels f acceptance between devices must be distinguished. Recgnized Authrised t be included in equipment, if the equipment in questin has been entirely munted and wired by qualified persnnel. They are nt valid fr use as General purpse prducts as their pssibilities are limited. They bear the mark: Listed Authrised t be included in equipment and fr separate sale are General purpse prducts cmpnents in the USA. They bear the mark: Eurpean Directives The guarantee f free mvement f gds within the Eurpean Cmmunity assumes eliminatin f any regulatry differences between the member states. Eurpean Directives set up cmmn rules that are included in the legislatin f each state while cntracditry regulatins are cancelled. There are three main directives: Lw Vltage Directive 73/23/EEC, amended by Directive 93/68/EEC cncerning electrical equipment frm 5 t 1 V a.c. and frm 75 t 15 V d.c. This specifies that cmpliance with the requirements that is sets ut is acquired nce the equipment cnfrms t the standards harmnised at Eurpean level: EN and EN fr limit switches. Machines Directives - 89/392/EEC, 91/368/EEC, 93/44/EEC, 93/68/EEC - defining main safety and health requirements cncerning design and manufacture f the machines and ther equipment including safety cmpnents in Eurpean Unin cuntries. Electrmegnetic Cmpatibility Directive 89/336/EEC,amended by Directive 92/31/EEC anddirective 93/68/EEC cncerning all electrical devices likely t create electrmagnetic disturbances. 3 LIMIT SWITCHES Plastic r Metal Casing Terminlgy Duble Insulatin Class II materials, accrding t IEC 536, are designed with duble insulatin. This measure cnsists in dubling the functinal insulatin with an additinal layer f insulatin s as t eliminate the risk f electric shck and thus nt having t prtect elsewhere. N cnductive part f "duble insulated" material shuld be cnnected t a prtective cnductr. Psitive Opening Operatin A cntrl switch, with ne r mre break-cntact elements, has a psitive pening peratin when the switch actuatr ensures full cntact pening f the breakcntact. Fr the part f travel that separates the cntacts, there must be a psitive drive, with n resilient member (e.g. springs), between the mving cntacts and the pint f the actuatr t which the actuating frce is applied. The psitive pening peratin des nt deal with N.O. cntacts. Cntrl switches with psitive pening peratin may be prvided with either snap actin r slw actin cntact elements. T use several cntacts n the same cntrl switch with psitive pening peratin, they must be electrically separated frm each ther, if nt, nly ne may be used. Every cntrl switch with psitive pening peratin must be indelibly marked n the utside with the symbl:. Snap Actin Snap actin cntacts are characterised by a release psitin that is distinct frm the perating psitin (differential travel). Snap breaking f mving cntacts is independent f the switch actuatr's speed and cntributes t regular electric perfrmance even fr slw switch actuatr. speeds Slw Actin Slw actin cntacts are characterised by a release psitin that is the same as the perating psitin. The switch actuatr's speed directly cnditins the travel speed f cntacts.
