3 Overview The DTT Desk Telephne is designed t prvide safe, reliable cmmunicatin in Industrial lcatins. The unit is hused in a rugged enclsure which makes it ideal fr use in harsh envirnments. The DTT can be wall munted if desired. 6 Installing the DTT Telephne Fllw all apprpriate electrical cdes and use nly apprved electrical fittings fr the installatin. See: Gvernment Certificatin. T change the Tne/Pulse setting t pulse, if required: Tip: The DTT is factry preset fr DTMF tne. Remve the fur tp screws and carefully remve the cver. Mve the jumper frm pins 1 & 2 f the Tne/Pulse cnnectr t pins 2 & 3. T change the setting back t tne mve the jumper back t pins 1 & 2. Replace the cver and the fur screws. Nte: The mdel DTT can be either desk munted r wall munted. If the DTT is t be desk munted simply place it in the desired lcatin. See: Figure 2 - Wall Munting If the DTT is t be wall munted fllw these instructins. See: Figure 3 - Internal Wiring Remve the fur tp screws and carefully remve the cver. See: Figure 4 - Mechanical Assembly Discnnect the harness plugs and set the cver aside. Using a flat screwdriver r similar instrument carefully pry the chassis away frm the base at the fur crners. Lsen the lcknut n the frty-five degree cable gland, rtate the gland 180 degrees and re-fasten the lcknut. Secure the base t the wall at the desired lcatin. Rtate the chassis 180 degrees frm the riginal rientatin and snap it back int the base. Rtate the cver 180 degrees frm the riginal rientatin and recnnect the harness plugs. Replace the cver and the fur screws. Ensure that nne f the electrical cnnectin circuits are live. Cnnect the Tip, Ring and Grund cnductrs in the cable prvided t the telephne line at a junctin bx. Test the unit by calling t and frm anther unit n the exchange. Nte: Tip and Ring are nt plarity sensitive. Page 6

7 Field Repairs & Adjustments Field repairs may nly be carried ut by qualified technicians using OEM parts. Substitutin f parts vids warranty and may pse a hazard t users f the equipment. Discnnect the telephne frm Tip and Ring pwer supplied by the PABX r central ffice befre attempting repairs. Remve the fur tp screws and carefully remve the cver. Perfrm the necessary repairs r adjustments. Replace the cver and the fur screws. Fuse Replacement Remve the ld fuse by pulling n the ends f the fuse hlder t pen. Insert a new 0.25 amp, 250Vlt, 3AG fast blw fuse and clse the fuse hlder. WARNING! Replace nly with a 0.25 amp 250V 3AG fast blw fuse. Failure t d s will vid the warranty. If, n recnnecting pwer, the fuse fails, check the telephne system wiring. The fuse prtects the Tip and Ring line frm the telephne system. It is usually pwered at 48 vlts DC and must nt be cnnected t 120 vlts AC. Changing the Tne/Pulse Setting Set the Tne/Pulse jumper fr the desired peratin. Fr pulse, set the jumper between the center pin and the P, fr tne set it between the center pin and T. 8 Flash: Descriptin Of Features The flash buttn will invke a 600 ms timed lp break. In pulse dialing mde the flash ptin is inperable. Recall: The Recall buttn is used t discnnect the line withut replacing the handset in the cradle. Sfter and Luder: The Sfter and the Luder buttns are used as a vlume cntrl fr the receiver earpiece. Each press n the Sfter r Luder buttn will decrease r increase the ludness by 2.7 db (+8.1 db/- 5.4 db in 5 steps). Mute: The functin f this key is enabled in speech mde nly. Pressing the Mute key will disable the micrphne amplifier, and pressing the Mute key again will revive the micrphne amplifier. Redial: The Redial buttn will recall the last manually dialed number. The maximum strage capacity f the Redial Memry is 31 digits. Pause: Pause is used during prgramming t insert a 3 secnd pause within the first 5 digits. Memry key prgramming: There are 10 direct memry access registers which can be assigned t the 10 numeric keys. Each register can cntain up t 20 digits including Pauses. T prgram the direct memry access keys prceed as fllws. Take the phne OFF HOOK. Press the Prgram key. The phne is nw in prgramming mde. Press the Memry key and ne f the numerical keys (0-9). The number selected will be assigned t this memry lcatin. Enter the phne number t be stred (fr example ). Valid entries are 0-9, *, #, r Pause. If yu are lcated in a business where yu must dial 9 r sme ther digit(s) t access an utside line, the example abve wuld be 9 Pause (press the Pause key) Press Enter t exit the prgramming mde. Autmatic memry Dialing: Ten (10) preprgrammed direct memry access registers can be used fr quick dialing as fllws: Take the phne OFF HOOK. Press the Memry key. Select ne f the numerical keys (0-9) (the memry lcatins). The number stred in the register will be accessed and dialed. Page 8

11 Gvernment Certificatin Attached t the telephne are labels fr Industry Canada and the United States Federal Cmmunicatins Cmmissin. These identify equipment certificatins indicating the 60 and 70 series telephnes meet certain telecmmunicatins netwrk prtective, peratinal and safety requirements. These agencies d nt guarantee the equipment will perate t the user's satisfactin. Befre installing this telephne equipment, users shuld ensure it is permissible t cnnect the equipment t facilities f the lcal telecmmunicatins cmpany. Equipment must be installed using acceptable cnnectin methds. In sme cases, the telephne users inside wiring, assciated with a single line service, may be extended by a certified cnnectr assembly (telephne extensin crd). The custmer shuld be aware that in sme situatins cmpliance with the abve cnditins may nt prevent degradatin f service. Repairs t certified equipment shuld be made by a supplier designated authrized maintenance facility. Fr their wn prtectin users shuld ensure the electrical grund cnnectins f the pwer utility, telephne lines and internal metallic water pipe systems, if present, are cnnected. This precautin may be particularly imprtant in rural areas. CAUTION: Users shuld nt attempt t make grund cnnectins, but shuld cntact the apprpriate electrical inspectin authrity r electrician. Lad Number (LN) The Lad Number (LN) assigned t each terminal device dentes the percentage f the ttal lad t be cnnected t a telephne lp used by the device. Terminatin n a lp may cnsist f any cmbinatin f devices subject nly t the requirement that the ttal f the Lad Numbers f all the devices des nt exceed 100. Ntificatin t Telephne Cmpany Upn request, the custmer must ntify the telephne cmpany f the particular line t which the cnnectin will be made and prvide the Industry Canada r FCC registratin number. The lcal telephne cmpany may request discnnectin f the telephne where alteratins r malfunctins affect the telephne s perfrmance. United States Federal Cmmunicatins Cmmissin This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radi frequency energy, and if nt installed and used in accrdance with the instructin manual, may cause interference t radi cmmunicatins. It has been tested and fund t cmply with the limits fr Class A cmputing device pursuant t Subpart J f Part 15 f FCC rules, which are designed t prvide reasnable prtectin against such interference when perated in a cmmercial envirnment. Operatin f this equipment in a residential area is likely t cause interference in which case the user, at his wn expense, will be required t take whatever measures may be required t crrect the interference. Interference There is n guarantee that interference will nt ccur in a particular installatin. If interference t radi r televisin receptin frm this equipment is suspected, prceed as fllws: 1. Unplug the set, check fr the interference. 2. Re-rient the receiving antenna. 3. Relcate the set with respect t the receiver. 4. Mve the set away frm the receiver. If necessary, cnsult the supplier r an experienced radi/televisin technician fr additinal suggestins. FCC Rules and Ringer Equivalence Number This equipment cmplies with Part 68 f the FCC Rules. On the side f this equipment is a label that cntains, amng ther infrmatin, the FCC registratin number and ringer equivalence number (REN) fr this equipment. If requested, this infrmatin must be prvided t the telephne cmpany. The REN is used t determine the quantity f devices which may be cnnected t the telephne line. Excessive RENs n the telephne line may result in the devices nt ringing in respnse t an incming call. In mst, but nt all areas, the sum f the RENs shuld nt exceed five. T be certain f the number f devices that may be cnnected t the line, as determined by the ttal RENs, cntact the telephne cmpany t determine the maximum REN fr the calling area. Service changes and Limitatins The telephne cmpany may make changes in its facilities, equipment, peratins, r prcedures that culd affect the peratin f the equipment. If this happens, the telephne cmpany will prvide advance ntice in rder fr yu t make the necessary mdificatins in rder t maintain uninterrupted service. This equipment can nt be used n public cin telephne service as prvided by yur telephne cmpany. 13 Guardian Prduct Return Guardian prducts have been quality tested and are in full wrking rder when shipped frm the factry, given the rugged nature f these prducts shipping is nt expected t damage a unit. In the unlikely event f a malfunctin, Guardian fllws the three step prcedure belw. Step I - On-Site Crrectin The mst cmmn surce f difficulties with a new prduct is imprper installatin in ne f tw ways: incrrect wiring cnnectins r cnnectin t an incrrect pwer surce. Prduct wiring needs t be prperly cnnected t the n-site wiring. Crrect wiring instructins are shwn in the user manual included with the prduct. Cnnecting a telephne t a standard pwer surce, rather than tip & ring, will blw the telephne s internal, user-replaceable fuse. In the event f fuse burn-ut, discnnect the telephne frm the pwer surce, replace the fuse, and recnnect fllwing the wiring diagrams prvided with the prduct. Step II - Return Materials Authrizatin (RMA) When a prduct has been installed fllwing user manual instructins, and the unit fails t perate, the user must cntact Guardian Telecm t btain authrizatin t return the prduct. This can be dne by cmpleting a RMA frm nline at r by calling the service telephne number given in this manual. After prviding infrmatin n the prduct, the wner and the nature f the prblem, Guardian will issue a RMA number, t be shwn n dcumentatin returned with the prduct. In additin t the RMA number, shipping dcuments shuld include name, address and telephne number f the wner alng with cntact infrmatin fr the persn respnsible fr the repair and/r the user wh identified the malfunctin. (Where a prduct is being returned fr repair frm utside f Canada, custms dcumentatin must shw the prduct s serial number, date f exprt [date f purchase], and a ntatin that the equipment is: Canadian gds returning. ) Step III - Factry Authrized Service Once received, each prduct is carefully inspected and tested. If the prduct is under warranty, repairs are cmpleted and the prduct returned t the wner, generally within five wrking days f receipt by the factry. A prduct that has been subjected t misuse, neglect r accident r is beynd the warranty perid will be evaluated. The service department will prvide the wner s representative with a repair cst estimate.
