1 JANUARY 2017 THE QUILTERS QUILL January 5, 2017 Business Meeting January 12, From the President Happy New Year to all our TRQG members and friends! May 2017 be a year of fun-filled fellowship and growth in the art of quilting together. We extend heartfelt gratitude to our out-going officers and Chairs for their dedication to our guild. A special thanks to the Holiday Luncheon Committee for a very merry event!. Our success as a Guild is because of the way our members step up and contribute time and talent to support each other. As we look to fill openings for Chairmanships for the coming year, please consider volunteering. Believe me, your quilting brother and sisters will spring to help, making your service a delight. Your Executive Team s theme for the coming year is Open Arms. Let s welcome new members and open our arms to encourage their full participation. Cathy Reminder - All members must wear their official TRQG nametags to every meeting and activity or pay the price...$0.50 to the kitty. It is for safety reasons required by the church. The church personnel do not recognize any other nametags Page 1 of 10 OFFICERS FOR 2016 President Cathy Cox, V/P-Programs Kathy Farrar, Secretary Betty Williams, (314) Treasurer Gail Banks, New Member Mentoring Coordinator Chris Babich, Member-at-Large & AQS Books-Helen Williams, Coastal Women's Shelter Mary Ann DeRossett, Historian OPEN Nursing Home Quilts- Jan Penner, Children s Charity Quilts-Lorraine Wocel Military Roberta (Bobbie) Gould, Sunshine- Claudia Hughes, Block of the month Ed Dzioba & Doroth Najarian Librarian Rosemary Trabucchi, Membership-& Hospitality Diana Rezab, Newsletter Editor & Newsletter Mailings Sandy Smith imsimplysandy@yahoo.com Fall Retreat Chris Gillespie, Winter Retreat Sue Kleeman Spring Retreat Rosemary Trabucchi, Website Ruth Powers, , twinriversquilters@yahoo.com Day of Sharing 2017 Sandy Smith, (619) Quilt Show 2016 OPEN Raffle Quilt Creation Ruth Powers, Raffle Quilt Sales-- Open Community Service Coordinator Alvina Diello, and Pat Phillips, Christmas Luncheon Kathren Singleton,

2 VP of Programs Hi, everyone and welcome to I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who voted me to be your next VP of Programs. I hope I can live up to your expectations. There are many new ideas spinning in my mind! The first big change is that we will be starting break-out sessions at our regular stitch and chat third Thursdays. So many of us don't utilize s&c sessions because we have nothing to work on. The goal is to change that. We want these sessions to be informal but educational and fun. Phyllis Prideaux has agreed to lead us off on January 19th with an Improv class. You should have received an with the details. Also scheduled is a charity workshop on the 26th of January with Alvina and Pat. Please plan to attend. We are falling behind in our charity work. Sandra Egolf has scheduled a new beginners class starting the third Friday of January. Please contact Sandy for details. I would like to encourage anyone who would like to share your special skills at a breakout session to volunteer. Paper piecing, embellishment, cross stitch, jewelry making, scarves, anything is on the table, all suggestions welcome! How about a serger workshop? Would you like to make a sampler using your fancy stitches? The meeting room is available for our use until1:30, so we can make these lunchables too!. Let's have some fun. I would also encourage thoughts for future speakers and workshops. Our calendar is set for 2017 but open for Please include backup information for your choice. All suggestions will be brought before the planning committee for review. I look forward to working with all of you as we start off on this new journey. I hope it is a heck of a ride. Kathy Farrar AQS Just a reminder if you want books I can order at 30 % off. Helen Williams COASTAL WOMEN S December was a BIG, busy month for Coastal Women's Shelter, especially since over 48 families were given happy Christmases due to the generosity of our tricounty area churches, businesses, clubs and individuals. Again this year, TRQG sponsored 2 CWS families with children. I want to warmly thank Nancy Hausman, Mary Daugherty, and Claudia Hughes for helping to shop for both families. It was an all day affair for each team, and boy, were we tired by the end of each day! The kids got a huge selection of clothes, jackets, shoes, socks and an abundance of toys and books. Moms had requested towels, linens and pots and pans and we were able to fund the needs plus a few extras. Thank you all for your monthly contributions to the Adopt A Family Christmas fund; without your financial generosity, this wouldn't be able to happen. And thank you also, for your donations of gift wrap, bows, ribbon, tape and other supplies. Your gifts enabled the moms to feel a part of their children's Christmas as they wrapped (and hid) those gifts in anticipation of Christmas morning. As we start a new year, CWS could very much use the old donation standbys: paper towels, toilet tissue, Kleenex, and feminine hygiene supplies. These are used at the Safe House, at our offices, and given out to clients as they move into their own new housing, away from their abusers. So pick up these items when they are on sale and Page 2 of 10

3 don't forget to bring them to our next meeting. Save the date: CWS's annual Fashion Show on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 5-7pm at the New Bern Golf & Country Club-- fashions by Peacock Plume. Again, thank you all for your wonderful support of Coastal Women's Shelter. Everything you do truly does make a difference!
