1 MAY 2017 THE QUILTERS QUILL May 4, 2017 Business Meeting May 11, From the President What a privilege it was to host our founding members and learn from them the history of our Guild. Thanks to all who so generously participated in making our first Founders Day Celebration such a poignant experience for our Foremothers. If you attended our May meeting and Founders Day you solved the entertainment mystery. That is not all that was revealed. Our spectacular 2018 Opportunity Quilt was unveiled to a chorus of ooohs and ahhhs! Congratulations to our Raffle quilt committee. It is truly an exquisite work of art! So many choices, so little time! The fun continues in June with Beth Nemesh workshops and lecture. Don t miss the Community Quilts workshop on May 25 or solve the mystery of self by attending Chris Babich s Quilting Personality Activity on June 29. Many thanks to all who provided the delicious food and helping hands for our special luncheon, Thanks for the Memories: Carlene Mount, Helen Williams, Marie Kube, Betty Blithe and Brenda Parker. Twin Rivers Retreats The Fall, Winter and Spring Retreat Leadership teams have been working with the Inn at Pine Knoll Shores (previously the Clam Digger) for pricing and contracts for 2018 and We were not comfortable with the pricing and some other issues with the new managerial team... Therefore, we decided to start researching other locations at the beach that would meet our needs. After talking with several hotels in the area, we decided to focus on both the Doubletree Hotel in Atlantic Beach and the Inn at Pine Knoll Shores. The best rates and the best facilities for hosting our Page 6 of 12

7 events in is the Doubletree Hotel. The hotel has lovely ocean view rooms with two double queen beds and larger baths for $69 a night in 2018 and $74 a night in We will have the use of 1/3 of the ballroom with complementary coffee tea and ice and we will be able to lock the room down at night. The restaurant does not have a huge menu but was very good. In addition it has both outside and inside pools and Jacuzzi s. It is a bright, clean, friendly hotel. Based on that we will be leaving the Inn at Pine Knoll Shores and moving onto the Doubletree. More information will come on particulars related to booking your room, etc.. from the Retreat Leadership teams closer to the event. retreat and pay your $10 non-refundable registration fee. You are not considered an attendee until this fee is received. We will be letting you know the process to reserve your room at the Doubletree in the near future. We will finalize the attendees approx days prior to the event and work with the hotel to ensure we are aligned on attendees and roommates. You are personally responsible for your payment to the hotel and if you cancel, it must be at least 72 hours prior to the reservation. Fall Retreat 2017 At the May business meeting, Chris Gillespie shared with you some options related to the 2017 Fall Retreat. These options included having the last retreat at the Clam Digger or starting our first retreat at the Doubletree in Atlantic Beach in At the meeting we voted on the dates and the changes and all agreed to cancel our reservation at the Inn at Pine knoll Shores for Nov 5 10, 2017 and RESERVE the Doubletree for Sunday October 29 through Friday morning November The cost will be $69 a room and we will continue following the process we established last year. If you attended the previous retreat, you would sign up on the waiting list. If there was an opening, you would then pay your $10 non-refundable registration fee. If you did not attend the previous retreat, you would sign up for the Page 7 of 12

11 Improv Squares Break-out Session --- Thursday, May 18 th --- 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. --- Bring your lunch! Quick and Easy for beginners, lots of fun for more advanced quilters. Supplies: Sewing machine, neutral thread, Rotary cutter with new blade, 12 x 6, 24 x 6, 15 square rulers, and basic sewing supplies. Fabric: recommend lots of fabrics in the same color such as lots of various shades of blue, plus a smaller amount of an accent color such as yellow. Using light, medium and dark browns are a great combo for men. Bring all sizes of scraps (larger than 3 square, if you have them. You do not need to bring a large quantity of fabric, maybe one or two yards total to start off the project. Press fabric before class. A variety of fat quarters is good! Please leave Type A personality at home!! Chris Babich Quilters Assessments workshop On Thursday, June 29 we will have a break out session for interested quilters on the Meyers Briggs inventory. Many of you have probably taken this and know about what it does. For those who haven't it is a inventory to gauge your temperament type and see how you relate to the world and make decisions. There are essentially eight letters to represent parts of a personality and you will get a four letter code that would help you understand your preferences. We will take a short version of this inventory and it should take you about 20 minutes. If you have taken it before please go ahead and take this shortened form. I will be at the next Business Meeting on June 8 and will give out the inventories at the end of the meeting. I would ask you to use the little room down the hall to fill it out and turn back to me as you finish. Based on your results I will give you some handouts when we meet on the 29th of June. If there are some people who can't make the meeting and are interested I will come to the Stitch and Chat at 9:30 on the 15th of June to give the inventory again. On the 29th of June when we meet I will do a short explanation, give you some handouts and we will meet in small groups for discussion. It is a fun and interesting way to look at your preferences and we will emphasize how this may affect how you prefer to work on your quilts! If neither of these dates work for you then please contact me by to find a time to meet or I can mail to you. To help me know who is interested please send me an letting me know that you plan to take the inventory on June 8 or at the June 15 Stitch and Chat. This would be helpful so that I can find out how many inventories to print off. Send me your name and the date you plan to take the inventory. Appreciate your help. Page 11 of 12
