1 JANUARY 2018 THE QUILTERS QUILL Board Meeting December 7, 2017 Business Meeting January 11, From the President Happy 2018 Twin Rivers Quilters! And Congratulations to our Scholarship winners for the NC Quilt Symposium in May. Since Judy Frankel will be unable to travel, our own Marie Garber and Karen Dodd will be going to Asheville for the fun and learning this spring. TRQG is off to a splendid start this year. Don t miss our exhibit at the Duffy Gallery in the New Bern History Center. Sixty of our member quilts will be on display from Jan. 20-March 25. Members will also be demonstrating quilting techniques and sewing projects for exhibit visitors during our show. A reception for the quilters displaying will take place on Jan. 19 th from 5:30-7:30. To attend, you must RSVP by Friday January 12. As we say good bye to the unfinished projects and wish I hads of 2017, let us embrace the laughter, love and learning we share. Let s lift up each other, chuckle at our own mistakes and look forward to the wonderful year we have ahead! Lynn Peck-Collins MILITARY QUILTS In December, 16 quilts and a half dozen fidget quilts were delivered to the Kinston Veterans Home. Two quilts for the veterans home were donated this month. 3 NURSING HOME QUILTS CHILDREN CHARITY QUILTS The month of January I only received 2 quilts: 1 each from June Dale and Mary O'Neill. For the year ending Dec I received 93 quilts, compared to 44 quilts for A big thank you to all of the members who provided those quilts. 4 2018 Raffle Quilt Quilt challenge 2018 There is still time to choose one of 4 seasons and get your fat quarter. Cost is $1.50 and you can see the fabrics at our monthly meeting or as Pam and Chris make them available at other events. The rules for this challenge are east peezy! Just use the fabric somewhere in your quilt! Perimeter of your quilt can be up to 144". Depending on which of 4 seasons and fabrics you choose, you will need to include one: a square, triangle, circle or rectangle. Complete directions will be included in your kit. The best news is they will not be due til August/September 2018!!! They will be hung at our October Quilt Show at the convention center.contact Chris (Chris.babich@gmail.com) or Pam (pambonina@gmail.com) for more information. The ticket sales on our beautiful quilt are as follows: TRQG Day of Sharing $960. Holiday & Home Show 374. Greenville Day of Sharing 46. Members tickets 40. Membership ticket envelopes are ready and can be picked up at Stitch and Chat and Monthly Meetings. $20. Cash or Check made out to TRQG. I will be collecting the filled out ticket stubs at the above meetings. I will have sign up sheets for the Farmers Market at the February Meeting for selling Raffle tickets. 5 Kitty Pillows DONATIONS Bring your hotel/motel soaps, shampoos and lotions to the guild to be given to Religious Community Services (RCS) by Alvina Diello. Or if you choose, you can take your donations directly to RCS. They are located at 919 George Street, New Bern and also are in charge of the homeless shelter and soup kitchen. Wow! I almost didn't make it into the Sun Journal with all those pillows from the meeting! Thank you to these ladies: Alvina Diello -1, Bobbie Gould -2, Geri Reid -4, Phyllis Prideaux -2, Suzie Hardy -2, Barbara Scavuzzo -2, Ruth Powers -5. I do ask you please, if you are in the neighborhood, it would be great if you could deliver these pillows yourself. If you cannot, I am still willing to deliver to the Sun Journal. Ruth Powers RCS does not sell anything that is donated to them - they give it to the needy or use it in the soup kitchen. They also take household items as well as furniture. After that, the fee is $ Business Meeting Etiquette In the interest of expediting our meetings, keep the flow going, and showing respect to each other, the following will be implemented. 6 Our bylaws state that we conduct meetings following Roberts Rules of order, therefore if you would like to speak to the membership, raise your hand, be recognized, give your name and state your business. In order to try to make the meeting shortened, please try to arrive 30 minutes early (9:30am) to do your sign in, get Block of the month, take care your procedural items before the meeting is called to order at 10:00am. That we can have your full-undivided attention for the meeting, eliminate confusion, and make the meeting shorter. Thank you, Twin Rivers Retreats 2018 Spring Retreat MENTORING COMMITTEE There will be a meeting of New Membership Committee members on Thursday, Nov 30 th at 10:00 at church. We will have our first Community Service Quilts Workshop for 2018 on January 25 starting at 9:30 am. We have a basket full of donated material that needs to be cut into kits. If you are interested in helping us cut, please bring a rotary cutter, a ruler and cutting board. Or bring your sewing machines, etc. to do some sewing. I have loved learning something new over these years (thanks to Karen Dodd), but websites, like other things, need new ideas and a fresh look. Geri and I will be working together in a couple weeks, so if your newsletter is a couple days late, bear with us. FYI If you have a problem with getting the newsletter from the website to your computer, start with several things first. Make sure your Adobe Reader is updated. It is free. Karen Dodd suggested if you exclusively use a particular search engine, ie, Google, then try another search engine, ie, Yahoo or Google Chrome.
