1 FEBRUARY 2016 THE QUILTERS QUILL Board Meeting February 4, 2016 Business Meeting February11, From the President Many thanks to Phyllis Prideaux, Alvina Diello, and Pat Philips for organizing the Community quilt workshop on strip piecing. We sure had a great attendance and lots of hands helping through all the steps in the process. I am looking forward to seeing all the beautiful quilts that you all create. Also many thanks for putting a big dent in our donated fabric and batting. Keep creating these scrap beauties for the members in our community that need warm quilts wrapped around them to raise their spirits and put a smile on their faces. Also thanks to Ruth Powers and Sue Kleeman for their leadership in the first retreat of The group was a little smaller than normal due to many personal schedule changes, but never the less, we had a wonderful time. Chris Babich and Sandra Egolf had their first in the 6 month series of a new quilters workshop. The majority of the group of 15 is interested in focusing totally on creating their quilts by hand. The old process is now new again. In fact, Chris Babich will be teaching a similar course on hand quilting at the NC History Center. Good job, Chris, in spreading quilt education to our community. I also want to thank all who submitted quilts to our show at the Duffy Gallery in the NC History Center. The staff at the History Center have been a joy to work with and so professional. For those who could not attend the reception that they sponsored for us due to the weather, you missed a wonderful event. The weather was stormy, but the wine, the food and the company was exceptional. Dorothy Najarian will be conducting a session to answer questions on the 2016 Block of the Month quilt that we have been working on since last spring. Most of the blocks have been given out and the Page 1 of 12 OFFICERS FOR 2016 President Chris Gillespie, (513) V/P-Programs Secretary Judy Frankel, Treasurer Becky Barnes, New Member Mentoring Coordinator Chris Babich, Member-at-Large & AQS Books-Helen Williams, Coastal Women's Shelter Mary Ann DeRossett, Historian OPEN Nursing Home Quilts- Dean Stevens, Children s Charity Quilts-Lorraine Wocel Military Roberta (Bobbie) Gould, Sunshine- Pat Phillips, Block of the month Ed Dzioba Librarian Cathy Cox Membership-& Hospitality Diana Rezab, Newsletter Editor & Newsletter Mailings Sandy Smith imsimplysandy@yahoo.com Fall Retreat 1 st Week -Mary Ann DeRossett nd Week - Chris Gillespie, Winter Retreat Ruth Powers, Spring Retreat Rosemary Trabucchi, Website Ruth Powers, , twinriversquilters@yahoo.com Day of Sharing 2016 OPEN Quilt Show 2016 Rosemary Trabucchi, & Phyllis Prideaux, Raffle Quilt Creation OPEN Raffle Quilt Sales Kathy Farrar Community Service Coordinator Alvina Diello, and Pat Phillips, Christmas Luncheon Cathy Cox,

Adah MENTORING COMMITTEE A new year and more new members! Our Mentoring Committee's purpose is to act as a source of information for any questions new members may have and to create a positive way for new members to easily understand the fun and the many opportunities of being an active TRQG member can be. Those new members who have just joined will get a call from someone on the committee to see how they might help them learn about what we do and what we are involved in as a quilt guild. Business Meeting Etiquette In the interest of expediting our meetings, keep the flow going, and showing respect to each other, the following will be implemented. Our bylaws state that we conduct meetings following Roberts Rules of order, therefore if you would like to speak to the membership, raise your hand, be recognized, give your name and state your business. In order to try to make the meeting shortened, please try to arrive 30 minutes early (9:30am) to do your sign in, get Block of the month, take care your procedural items before the meeting is called to order at 10:00am. That we can have your full-undivided attention for the meeting, eliminate confusion, and make the meeting shorter. Thank you, I was in Michaels today and the checkout clerk asked, timidly, if I was over 55. They have a 10% discount for seniors EVERY DAY, and it is in addition to any other discount coupons you may have. Apparently some clerks have been verbally abused when asking if a customer is eligible, so they may hesitate to ask. If there are quilt guild members out there that would like to join the Mentoring Committee and occasionally call on someone new, just please let me know and we will add you to the list. Chris Babich at: chris.babich@gmail.com COMMUNITY SERVICES Thank you to the ladies who donated kitty pillows to be distributed to the local shelters.
