1 AUGUST 2017 THE QUILTERS QUILL Board Meeting August 3, 2017 Business Meeting August 10, From the President What a turnout at our meeting today! Even though summer is not over, many of you are returning from our break and your travels. Much excitement is ahead for us with preparations for our Day of Sharing and Fall Retreat at the Beach on the horizon. Check out website, The Quilt Show.com/daily blog and see our own Lynn Peck-Collins beautiful quilt, Floribunda. Congrats to Lynn upon her acceptance to show in the Houston International Quilt Show this fall. If, as sage Brian Goodwin says, Play invites participation. The Twin Rivers Quilters invite you to come play with us as we explore new ideas and techniques. Join in the September workshop with Susan Hahn. Jump into the Quilt Show challenge. Learn from another member in a break out session. Volunteer to lead a committee or work with one. Pitch in during an event. Ask another quilter to show you something you would like to improve or just go to lunch with someone new. Remember Winning is something, but participation is everything. I thank each of you for sharing your time, talents and enthusiasm with all of us. 3 Thank you all for the stretcher quilts received this month and in June. I now have 15 quilts to be sent to the Air Casualty Staging Facility(ACSF) located in Germany. Quilts for the Veterans Home can be lap to twin size, for A/E the quilts should measure 40"x60". We also contribute fidget quilts for the Memory unit at the Veterans Home. 5 Chris LIBRARY From the Library: We would like to focus on acquiring DVD's for the Library this year, If you have a request, or a recommendation, please contact Rosemary. Quilt challenge The 2018 Quilt Challenge is on! Today at the June Business Meeting Pam Bonina and Chris Babich introduced the 2018 Quilt Challenge that also emphasizes the theme of "Seasons". This time you have four fabrics to choose from. You pick the season you like and purchase that season's fabric. You will need to use some of that fabric in your quilt in any way you want but you will also have a shape that has been selected for that season that can be placed anywhere in your quilt. The total perimeter of your quilt can be up to 144". All the rules are explained in the fabric packet which cost $1.50. This is an individual quilt competition. Although Pam and I were surprised by the number of fabrics packets that sold there are still enough for all who are interested. We will be available at the Business Meetings to sell the packets. See you at the August Business Meeting. DONATIONS Bring your hotel/motel soaps, shampoos and lotions to the guild to be given to Religious Community Services (RCS) by Alvina Diello. Or if you choose, you can take your donations directly to RCS. They are located at 919 George Street, New Bern and also are in charge of the homeless shelter and soup kitchen. RCS does not sell anything that is donated to them - they give it to the needy or use it in the soup kitchen. They also take household items as well as furniture. They have a van and will come and pick up large items. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and caring for those less fortunate. Alvina Diello DAY OF SHARING Page 5 of 12
