The TONOVET is based n the patented rebund technlgy, which measures IOP accurately, rapidly and withut the need f lcal anaesthetic. There is n risk f micrbilgical cntaminatin, as single- use prbes are used in the measurement. IOP changes due t the effects f pulse, breathing, eye mvements, and bdy psitin. Because the measurement is made handheld in fractins f a secnd, six measurements are needed t btain the final reading. The TONOVET has settings fr dg/cat and hrse. The TONOVET is intended fr veterinary use nly. 2

3 Icare TONOVET tnmeter TV01 manual English SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Read this manual carefully, because it cntains imprtant infrmatin n using and servicing the tnmeter. Keep this manual fr future use. When yu have pened the package, check fr any external damage r faults. Check especially that the casing is nt damaged. If yu suspect that there is smething wrng with the tnmeter, cntact the manufacturer r the distributr. Use the tnmeter nly fr measuring intracular pressure f animals. Any ther use is incrrect. The manufacturer cannt be held respnsible fr any damage arising frm imprper use, r fr the cnsequences theref. Never pen the casing f the tnmeter, except fr the battery cmpartment r t change the prbe base. The manual cntains instructins fr replacing batteries and changing the prbe base. Never use the tnmeter in wet r damp cnditins. The prbe base, battery cmpartment cver, cllar and prbes are s small that a child r animal culd swallw them. Keep the tnmeter ut f the reach f children r animals. D nt use the device near the substances that are flammable - including flammable anaesthetic agents. Check that a clean new dispsable prbe is used befre each measurement. T avid transmitting certain micrbilgical agents (e.g. bacteria), the device shuld be cleaned regularly with a disinfectant, e.g. 70% alchl slutin. The tnmeter must nt cme int cntact with the eye, except fr the prbe during the measurement, therefre d nt bring the tnmeter int cntact with the eye r push it t the eye (tip f the prbe shuld be 4 8 mm r 1/6-1/3 inch, frm the eye). The tnmeter cnfrms t EMC requirements, but interference may ccur in it if used near t (<1m) a device causing high- intensity electr magnetic emissins (like a cellular phne). Thugh the tnmeters wn electrmagnetic emissins are well belw the levels in the relevant standards, they may cause interference in anther device, e.g. a sensitive sensr, nearby. If the device is nt t be used fr a lng time, remving the batteries is recmmended, as the AA batteries may leak. Remving the batteries will nt affect the subsequent functining f the tnmeter. Be sure t dispse f the single- use prbes prperly (e.g., in a cntainer fr dispsable needles). Batteries, packaging materials, and prbe bases must be dispsed f accrding t lcal regulatins. 4 Icare TONOVET tnmeter TV01 manual English TURNING THE TONOMETER ON Insert batteries int the tnmeter (page 6). Place the wrist strap int the wrist strap attachment. Place the wrist strap arund yur wrist. The wrist strap prtects the tnmeter frm drpping dwn accidentally. Press the measurement buttn t turn the tnmeter ON. The tnmeter display will display all f the LCD segments (see the image beside). The display shws LAd, instructing the user t lad the single use prbe int the tnmeter prir t measurement. LOADING THE PROBE Accurate measurement is guaranteed nly when using prbes made by Icare Finland Oy. Open the prbe tube by remving the cap and insert the prbe int prbe base as shwn in the image. After the prbe has been inserted, d nt t pint the tnmeter dwn t prevent the prbe frm falling ut. Activate by pressing the measurement buttn nce. The display shws 00 instructing that the tnmeter is n the starting psitin and ready fr measurement. After activating the prbe is magnetized and will nt fall ut. ACCESSING THE STARTING MODE Starting mde is displayd as 00. AFTER MEASURING Press the measurement buttn. BEFORE LOADING THE PROBE Press the selectr buttn. MEASURING THE INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE The tnmeter needs t be in a hrizntal psitin during the measurement. The distance shuld be 4-8 mm (1/6-1/3 inch) frm the prbe t the crnea. TIP The distance frm the eye t prbe shuld be abut the lenght f the cllar. Six individual measurements are required fr the final result. The measurement values displayed during the measurement represents average values f the previus measurements (1.- 5.), nt individual measurement values. Press the measuring buttn six times. The tip f the prbe needs t cntact the central crnea**. After each successful, individual measurement a shrt beep is played. After six successful measurements, a lnger beep is played and the final result is shwn n the display. If there is an errneus measurement, the tnmeter will beep twice and shw an errr message. Press the measurement buttn t clear the errr message and cntinue the sequence f six measurements. The sequence f six individual measurements des nt have t be started frm beginning, the tnmeter will cntinue the sequence after cleared errr message. If several errneus measurements appear, see the sectin Errr messages (page 7). Start a new measurement by pressing the measurement buttn. The display shws 00 indicating the tnmeter is ready fr the next measurement. **IOP shuld always be measured frm the central crnea t get the true value since the result vary in different parts f the eye 4

Frm the starting mde ( 00 ; t access starting mde, see page 4), press the right r left selectr buttn until Old appears n the display. 2. Press the measurement buttn. Scrll the ld values by pressing the selectr buttns (right=lder, left=mre recent, frm 0-9). 3. T exit the ld values search, press the measurement buttn. 4. The display shws Old. Press either selectr buttn t access ther functins (00=measurement, End=turning OFF). TURNING THE TONOMETER OFF 1. Frm the starting mde ( 00 ), press either selectr buttn until the display shws End. 2. Press the measurement buttn fr tw secnds. The display shws bye and the tnmeter will switch ff. The used prbe will be partially ejected. Use the empty prbe tube t remve the used prbe frm the tnmeter. Ensure that yu dispse f the prbe prperly. The tnmeter will autmatically turn ff if nt used fr tw minutes. 5

6 Icare TONOVET tnmeter TV01 manual English CHANGING THE SETTING FOR DIFFERENT SPECIES The TONOVET tnmeter has measuring settings fr dg/cat and hrse. The dg and cat use the same setting; displayed as d. The hrse setting is displayd as h. The third setting P is undefinied, reserved fr future use. The default setting is d. REPLACING THE PROBE BASE During the use sme dirt may cllect in the prbe base, affecting the prbe mvement. The prbe base shuld be replaced every 12 mnths r if the prbe n lnger mves smthly r the brbe base errr (E 01 r E 03) is displayed. 1. Unscrew the prbe base cllar. 2. Remve the prbe base by tilting the tnmeter dwnward and pull the prbe base ut f the tnmeter. 3. Put a new prbe base int the tnmeter. 4. Screw the cllar in, t lck the prbe base. NOTE The prbe base shuld be replaced with a new prbe base every 12 mnths, r if the cleaning is nt effective. CLEANING THE PROBE BASE The prbe base shuld be cleaned every 6 mnths. The prbe base can be reused after careful cleaning. Make sure the prbe base is cmpletely dry befre using it. 1. Unscrew the prbe base cllar and remve the prbe base frm the tnmeter. 2. Sak the prbe base in 100% pure alchl fr 5 t 30 minutes. 3. Remve the prbe base frm alchl and dry carefully by blwing clean canned r cmpressed air int the prbe base. This will additinally remve pssible residual dirt. 4. Insert the cmpletely dry prbe base and screw the cllar back t the tnmeter. NOTE D nt use water r sap slutin t clean the prbe base. CLEANING THE TONOMETER SURFACE The tnmeter may be surface- cleaned using a sft clth dampened with either a cmmercial, nnabrasive cleaner r a slutin f 70% alchl in water. Lightly wipe the surfaces f the tnmeter and make sure surfaces are dry after cleaning, especially areas near the main buttns, the display and the prbe cver. Chemical resistance t the fllwing liquids has been tested: Ethanl 2- prpanl Mild sap slutin 95% Pursept slutin CAUTION D nt spray, pur r spill liquid nt the Icare tnmeter, its accessries, cnnectrs, switches r penings in the chassis. D nt leave the surface f the tnmeter wet; dry it with a sft clath. The prbe hlder/base has t be remved frm the tnmeter t be cleaned. 6

7 Icare TONOVET tnmeter TV01 manual English REPLACING THE BATTERIES Replace the batteries nce a year and/r when the <batt> message is displayed. 1. Unscrew the battery cmpartment lcking screw with a screwdriver r a small cin. 2. Remve the battery cmpartment cver. 3. Remve the ld batteries. 4. Put new AA batteries int the tnmeter accrding t figures inside the battery cmpartment. Terminals shuld pint dwn n the display side and up n the measurement side. 5. Replace the battery cmpartment cver and secure it in place by screwing it lightly with the cin r screwdriver. Be careful nt t use excessive frce when screwing the cver in place. NOTE If the device is nt t be used fr a lnger perid f time, remving the batteries is recmmended, as AA batteries may leak, which may damage the device. Use nly alkaline batteries. Battery cmpartment cver ERROR MESSAGES Press the measuring buttn t clear the errr message, and cntinue the measuring. MESSAGE STATE DESCRIPTION batt The batteries are lw. Replace the batteries. E 01 The prbe did nt mve at all. If this errr message is repeated, turn the tnmeter s that the cllar faces dwn fr a shrt time. If the errr message is still repeated take ut the prbe and replace with a new ne. If the errr message cntinues t appear, replace the prbe base. E 02 The prbe did nt tuch the eye. The measurement was made frm t far away r the prbe base is dirty. E 03 The prbe speed was t lw. The measurement was made frm t far away r the tnmeter was tilted upwards t much. E 04 The prbe speed was t high. The tnmeter was tilted dwnwards. Be sure the grve is in the hrizntal psitin. E 05 The hit was t sft. The prbe hit the eyelid. E 06 The hit was t hard. The prbe hit the pening eyelid r calcificatin in the crnea. E 07 "Bad bunce. The prbe did nt hit the central crnea. E 09 Bad data. An errneus measurement fr a reasn ther than thse described in E01 E07. TROUBLE SHOOTING VISUALLY INSPECT COVERS/ HOUSING OF THE DEVICE Cracks r damages are detected. Cvers are nt crrectly in place r cver(s) are lse. LOAD THE PROBE AND MAKE A MEASUREMENT The prbe des nt mve. The prbe mves sluggishly / irregularly. The prbe des nt mve althugh the prbe base has been changed. Display Issues N digits n the display. A beep can be heard. Sme segments n the display are dead r vanishing. Audible Issues The beep cannt be heard when the measurement buttn is pressed. The frequency f the beep is varying. Buttn Issues The device des nt react when buttns are pressed. Any buttn needs t be pressed hard fr the expected functin. Buttns react ccasinally. Cntact yur Icare representative. Change / clean the prbe base. Cntact yur Icare representative. 7

The device can be cleaned with a damp clth cntaining disinfectant accrding the instructins (page 6). There are n ther service prcedures that can be carried ut by the user.
