Suitable precautins shuld be exercised at all times and hand prtectin shuld be used when mving and handling the material. D nt use suctin cups r hks t mve material and take care nt t scratch the surface r chip the edges. When handling unmasked sheets, make sure hands are clean and il free: cttn glves are recmmended. if lifting devices are nt available, Slate lite can be unladed manually. Hwever, it is very imprtant t fllw special prcedures fr yur safety: Handle ne sheet at a time Sheet shuld be handled n the edge 1

STORAGE Slate lite must be stred in a dry place. it is recmmended that sheets shuld be stred hrizntally n their riginal delivery pallets, and that the pallets be placed n hrizntal strage shelves. it is strngly recmmended that pallets shuld nt be stacked, which carries the risk f creating internal tensins and spiling the flatness f the sheets. Please see figure a. if a vertical strage methd is adpted, it is preferable that the sheets be leaned against slid supprts inclined at apprximately 80 t avid any bending, the base f the sheet shuld be fully supprted by flat flr r stable platfrm. as illustrated in figure B. it is strngly recmmended t avid strage lnger than 6 mnths. Panels shuld be stred indrs in a cl, dry, well ventilated area ut f direct sunlight and away frm heat surces. avid temperature extremes during strage and allw the material t acclimate t ambient rm temperature befre installatin. D nt allw water t cme int direct cntact with the material during strage. This culd cause the material t warp, stain, r delaminate, and may make the masking difficult t remve. 3

4 e fabricatin handling fabricatin and installatin guide (cnt.) Slate lite enables n-site cutting, eliminating the need t pre-rder tughened glass panels weeks in advance. Slate lite can be fabricated by the installer n-site, allwing last minute changes t be made, such as electrical pint cut-uts etc. MACHINING in terms f hardness, Slate lite are similar t aluminium r light allys. it can be machined (cut, milled, turned r drilled) using typical tls fr either wd r metal. Recmmendatins fr machining: excessively fast machining causes lcal verheating, generating internal stresses which must subsequently be relieved by annealing; Best results will be achieved by using nly very sharp tls, ensuring the efficient remval f swarf, nt verheating the material; During machining, parts must be clamped prperly t avid any vibratin; Strng vibratin may result in a pr edge finish r brken sheet; always d a practice cut using yur tls first t ensure a nice finish; CUTTING When a sheet is being cut, the blade entry and exit stages are the mst critical. a number f industrial cutting methds are suitable fr Baresque panels. Circular saws are nrmally used fr straight cuts, with bandsaws r ruter cutters fr ther shapes. Other mre sphisticated methds such as lasers r CNC give excellent results. Befre cutting please ensure: 4

5 e handling fabricatin and installatin guide (cnt.) always supprt the Baresque panel, using a table r sheet f panel material. The use f a felt blanket, r the like, reduces scratching r indentatin; always ensure that all cutting blades are sharpened prir t use; Fr best results, especially when cutting panels fr use with prfessinal jinters, a high speed laminate cutter (30,000+rpm) with a 6mm blade shuld be used; TABLE SAW Nrmally a table saw has a dwnward blade rtatin. if this is the case, cut panels with painted surface face up. if the blade rtatin is up, cut panel with the painted surface dwn (therefre the blade is cutting int the painted surface, reducing chip ut ); allw the panel t pass thrugh the saw with even pressure -- d nt frce the panel CIRCULAR SAW Circular saws give a straight, accurate cut. This is the mst frequently used technique. When cut crrectly, Slate lite sheets have a edge. Carbide-tipped blades are recmmended fr industrial use, fr cutting piles f sheets. Nrmally the blade rtatin f a circular saw is up. if this is the case, cut panels with painted surface dwn. if blade rtatin is dwn, cut panel with painted surface face up (therefre the blade is cutting int the painted surface, aviding chip ut ); Clamp a straight edge t the panel as a guide fr the tl; Place a piece f timber material under the line yu will be cutting. This supprting material is imprtant as it helps reduce the chipping f the painted surface; Reduce the depth f cut t allw the blade t cut apprximately 7mm thrugh the sheet; 5

Cut the panel using the circular saw, cutting slwly with a sharp, high quality tth blade HAND SAW a fine tth panel saw may be used t cut Slate lite, with the painted surface face up; Mark the panel fr the cut, hld the blade f the hand saw at a very lw angle, s that it is almst fit at t the edge f the bard; Cut slwly and carefully with even strkes DRILLING AND OPENING Drilling can be carried ut with fixed r prtable drilling machines, fitted with high speed, superhigh speed r carbide-tipped steel drills fr light metal, especially grund fr Slate lite. The use f carbide-tipped drills is recmmended, t btain a high-grade finish n the sides f the hles. Best results will be achieved with a slw t medium drill speed. Drilled hles shuld be n clser than 50mm t the edge f the sheet; larger penings shuld be n clser than the largest dimensin f the pening away frm the edge f the sheet MILLING / ROUTERING Milling can be used t btain cmplex shapes with a clean, plished machine finish. Slate lite sheets must be securely held t avid vibratin and a pr edge finish. The rtatin speed must be between 10,000 and 30,000 rpm, depending n the diameter and 6

Feed rates f 3,000 are suitable fr 4mm depth Milling can be used fr several peratins such as: Cutting thrugh Finishing edges FORMING Sme f Baresque s Slate lite can be Frmed (t be advised n applicatin), the frming ptins are: THERMOFORMING Baresque Slate lite that were manufactured using thermplastic resin allw fr cmplex shapes in heated state. COLD FORMING This technique is available fr simple and large curves but requires a strng mechanical fixing system. 7

8 e installatin APPLICATION handling fabricatin and installatin guide (cnt.) Slate lite can be applied in almst all areas (walls, ceilings, interir design and furniture). Fr lwer traffic areas such as private hmes r apartments we recmmend water based adhesive such as liquid Nails. LAMINATION ON WOOD, METALS, PLASTERBOARD, FIBER CEMENT When laminating (bnding) Slate-lite nt wd, fiber cement, plasterbard and metal, as well as mst furniture applicatins we recmmend a 1 cmpnent PU (plyurethane) adhesive such as (liquid Nails). D nt use a slvent based adhesive. if the Slate lite is nly applied n ne side f a carrier material, it is imprtant t have a cunter balance n the ther side fr stability. Mechanically munted panels which have the Slate lite n ne side, need a craft paper r fil f at least 150 g / m2. Slate-lite has a natural, rugh split able surface with a tlerance f up t 2 mm. Thickness equalizing additins prtect the veneers frm being damaged. IMPORTANT NOTES DO NOT USE SOLVENT BASED CONTACT ADHESIVES every applicatin requires special attentin and if unsure f which fixing methd t use please cntact Baresque. 8

9 e handling fabricatin and installatin guide (cnt.) SEALING By a single treatment with aquamix Sealer Chice Gld Rapid, almst all natural stne surfaces are easier t maintain. Nt nly water but als il and grease can n lnger penetrate int the surface. Sun spts are prevented. Fr light traffic areas indrs, we recmmend sealing with the aquamix Sealer Chice Gld Rapid. Fr walls, ceilings, furniture and kitchen frnts. This is suitable fr all surfaces withut t much use. Nte the prcessing f infrmatin frm the manufacturer. regular maintenance all natural stne surfaces, even if it is impregnated (sealed), must be wiped mist regularly. We recmmend aquamix Stne & Tile Cleaner which cntains a small amunt f the impregnatr which insures the surface stays sealed. Fllw manufacture s guidelines fr cleaner use. 9
