When chsing a place fr this prduct Place this prduct n a flat, stable surface that is larger than this prduct. This prduct will nt perate prperly if it is tilted r at an angle. Avid places subject t rapid changes in temperature and humidity. Als keep it away frm direct sunlight, strng light, r heat surces. Keep the entire cmputer system away frm ptential surces f electrmagnetic interference, such as ludspeakers r the base units f crdless telephnes. Use nly the type f pwer surce indicated n the prduct s label. Use nly the pwer crd that cmes with this prduct. Use f anther crd may result in fire r electric shck. D nt use a damaged r frayed pwer crd. If yu use an extensin crd with this prduct, make sure the ttal ampere rating f the devices plugged int the extensin crd des nt exceed the crd s ampere rating. 6 Intrductin Always turn the prduct ff using the Pwer buttn n the cntrl panel. When this buttn is pressed, the Pwer light flashes briefly then ges ff. D nt unplug the pwer crd r turn ff the prduct until the Pwer light stps flashing. Nte: Ntes cntain useful r additinal infrmatin n the peratin f this prduct. When handling the ink packs Keep ink packs ut f the reach f children and d nt drink. Illustratins The illustratins in this manual may differ slightly frm the actual bjects they are intended t represent. Wear prtective eyewear and glves when refilling ink tanks. Shuld ink cntact yur skin r enter yur eyes r muth, immediately take the fllwing actins: If fluid adheres t yur skin, immediately wash it ff using large vlumes f sapy water. Cnsult a physician if the skin appears irritated r is disclred. If fluid enters yur eyes, rinse immediately with water. Failure t bserve this precautin culd result in bldsht eyes r mild inflammatin. U Using the Cntrl Panel Menu n page 33 When menus are displayed and an item is highlighted, pressing this buttn displays the sub-menu fr the highlighted item. 12 Intrductin Displays the Maintenance menu, which is used fr nzzle checks and head cleaning. U Adjusting the Print Head n page 45 L W buttn (Pause/Cancel buttn) The printer enters pause status if this is pressed while printing. T release the pause status, press the W buttn again, r select Pause Cancel n the screen and then press the Z buttn. T cancel print jbs being prcessed, select Jb Cancel n the screen and then press the Z buttn. Pressing this buttn while a menu is displayed clses the menu and returns the printer t ready status. Displays the printer's status, peratin, and errr messages. U What t D When a Message Is Displayed n page 57 B Tabs/Inf Display Area The fllwing 5 tabs are displayed in this area. Use the l/r buttns t select a tab. Infrmatin n the selected tab appears in the inf display area. M ) buttn (Feed/Cut Media buttn) This buttn is used with rll paper nly. It is used t manually cut rll paper using the built-in cutter. U Manual cut methd n page 23 If printing is nt currently in prgress and the printer is laded with rll paper, yu can feed paper ahead by pressing first this buttn and then the d buttn. Press the u buttn t rewind. Keep the d buttn pressed t feed the paper up t 3 m. Keep the u buttn pressed t rewind the paper up t 20 cm. When the u buttn is used t rewind rll paper, the paper will pause when the end f the rll reaches the starting print psitin. Release the buttn and then press it again t resume. Screen View, : The Print Queues Tab This tab displays print jb status and can be used t access the Print Queues menu. The Inf Display Area The print queues tab inf display area shws the name f the current print jb. Pressing the Z r Menu buttn when this tab is selected displays the Print Queues menu.. : The Paper Tab This tab shws the type f paper in the printer and can be used t access the Paper menu. The Inf Display Area This tab displays infrmatin abut the paper that is currently laded. When rll paper is used, it als shws the rll width. In additin, when On is selected fr Rll Paper Remaining, it shws the amunt f rll paper remaining. When the length remaining drps belw the value selected fr Remaining Alert, a icn appears abve the tab icn and an alert like that shwn belw is displayed t warn that the printer is nearing the end f the rll. Pressing the Z r Menu buttn when this tab is selected displays the Paper menu. A Message U Paper menu n page 37 12

13 Intrductin : The Ink Tab This tab displays the status f the chip unit. The Inf Display Area The display changes as fllws whenever an errr is detected in an installed chip unit: Nrmal Warning r Errr - : The Maintenance Tab The maintenance tab shws the status f the Maintenance Bx and is used t display the Maintenance menu. The Inf Display Area The maintenance tab inf display area shws Maintenance Bx status and the apprximate amunt f space remaining in the Maintenance Bx. The icns change as fllws t shw errrs r t warn when the Maintenance Bx is nearing the end f its service life. 1 Status indicatrs The chip unit status is indicated as fllws. : N errr. Ready t print. Nrmal Warning r Errr 1 2 Ink clr cdes BK : Black Y : Yellw : An errr ccurred. Check the message n the screen, and clear the errr. : The chip unit culd nt be recgnized r it is nt cmpatible with the printer. Or, the slider is nt lcked. Check the message n the screen. : The chip unit requires replacement. Replace the chip unit with ne frm a new ink pack. M : Magenta C : Cyan As it gets clser t time t replace the chip unit, a icn will begin t flash. 1 Status indicatrs Maintenance Bx status is shwn as fllws. : N errr. The height f the indicatr crrespnds t the amunt f space remaining. : The Maintenance Bx is nearing the end f its service life. : Yu need t prepare a new Maintenance Bx. Replace the Maintenance Bx with a new ne. Pressing the Z r Menu buttn when this tab is selected displays the Maintenance menu. The Inf Display Area The setup tab inf display area shws the IP address currently assigned, if any. Pressing the Z r Menu buttn when this tab is selected displays the Setup menu. 14 Intrductin Features The main features f this printer are described belw. Realizing High Prductivity Easy maintenance Rll paper and all replacements, including ink refills, Maintenance Bxes, and cutters, are installed frm the frnt, allwing the printer t be placed against a wall. The printer des nt have t be mved t allw rear access. High-speed printing The speed f the print head and paper feed have been increased fr faster printing. The printer is equipped with a high-speed rtary cutter fr quick cutting, significantly increasing prductivity. Imprved perability with an easy t see and use clr screen Designed fr intuitive peratin, the large, brightly-lit, clr LCD display is easy t understand and easy t use. The large display ffers detailed, easy-t-understand errr messages and illustrated guides t lading paper. U Screen View n page 12 Checking current perating status even frm afar thanks t an alert lamp Errrs are immediately bvius even at a distance, thanks t the large, highly visible alert lamp. This helps prevent any wasted time when printing has stpped due t running ut f ink r paper. High-capacity ink tank included The printer includes a high-capacity ink tank fr high prductivity. We als ffer 1000 ml high-capacity ink packs fr ink refill. This eliminates the need fr frequent trublesme ink cartridge replacements. Insistence n Ease-f-Use Spindle-free rll paper adapter makes lading rll paper a snap The lack f a spindle makes it pssible t lad and remve rll paper even in envirnments where space is at a premium. T lad rll paper, simply place it n the rll rest and attach rll paper adapters t bth ends. The rll rest is lw, making it easy even fr shrt wrkers t lad paper. U Lading Rll Paper n page 21 14

15 Intrductin Ntes n Usage and Strage Installatin space Make sure that yu secure the fllwing space, clear f any ther bjects, s that paper ejectin and cnsumable replacement are nt bstructed. See the "Specificatins Table" fr the external dimensins f the printer. U Specificatins Table n page 67 D nt install the printer next t heat surces r directly in the path f air frm a ventilatr r air cnditiner. Failure t bserve this precautin culd result in the print head nzzles drying and clgging. The print head may nt be capped (i.e., may nt mve t the right-hand side) if an errr ccurs and the printer is turned ff withut first reslving the errr. Capping is a functin fr autmatically cvering the print head with a cap (lid) t prevent the print head frm drying ut. In this case, turn n the pwer and wait a while until capping is perfrmed autmatically. When the pwer is n, d nt remve the pwer plug r cut the pwer at the breaker. The print head may nt be capped prperly. In this case, turn n the pwer and wait a while until capping is perfrmed autmatically. Even when the printer is nt in use, sme ink will be cnsumed by head cleaning and ther maintenance peratins needed t keep the print head in gd cnditin. Ntes when nt using the printer Ntes when using the printer Nte the fllwing pints when using this printer t avid breakdwns, malfunctins, and print quality decline. If yu are nt using it, nte the fllwing pints when string the printer. If it is nt stred crrectly, yu may nt be able t print prperly the next time it is used. If yu d nt print fr a lng time, the print head nzzles may becme clgged. Turn the printer n at least nce every tw weeks t prevent the print head clgging. When using the printer, bserve the perating temperature and humidity range described in the "Specificatins Table". U Specificatins Table n page 67 Even when the cnditins abve are met, yu may nt be able t print prperly if the envirnmental cnditins are nt suitable fr the paper. Be sure t use the printer in an envirnment where the paper's requirements are met. Fr mre details, see the dcumentatin supplied with the paper. Als, when perating in dry areas, air cnditined envirnment, r under direct sunlight, maintain the apprpriate humidity. When the printer is turned n, head cleaning is perfrmed autmatically. D nt turn the printer ff until cleaning is cmplete. Leaving the printer fr t lng withut turning it n may result in a malfunctin. Repair wrk fr such malfunctin will be charged. If yu will nt be using the printer fr mre than 2 weeks, maintenance must be perfrmed by a service engineer befre and after this perid. This maintenance wrk will be charged. Nte that even if prper maintenance has been dne befre leaving the printer fr a lng time, repair may be necessary when ding maintenance fr reusing the printer, depending n the perid 15

16 Intrductin and cnditins f strage. In such a case, the repair wrk will als be charged. T ensure print quality, use all the ink in the ink pack befre the earlier f the fllwing dates: Cntact yur dealer r Epsn Supprt. The date printed n the ink pack The rller may leave an impressin n paper that is left in the printer. This can als cause wavy r curled paper resulting in paper feeding prblems r the print head culd be scratched. Remve any paper when string. Stre the printer after cnfirming that the print head has been capped (the print head is psitined at the far right). If the print head is left uncapped fr a lng time, the print quality may decline. Nte: If the print head is nt capped, turn the printer n, and then turn it ff. 25 days frm the day that the ink tank was refilled frm the ink pack If the ink pack has been stred in a cld lcatin fr a lng perid f time, keep at rm temperature fr at least 4 hurs befre using. When refilling the ink in an ink tank, be sure t use all the ink in the ink pack at nce. Refill the ink tank as sn as pssible after pening the ink pack. D nt place any bjects n tp f the ink tank. T prevent the accumulatin f dust and ther freign matter in the printer, clse all cvers befre placing it in strage. If the printer will be nt be used fr an extended perid, prtect it with an anti-static clth r ther cver. Ntes n handling paper Nte the fllwing pints when handling and string the paper. If the paper is nt in gd cnditin, print quality may decline. Check the dcumentatin supplied with each paper. The print head nzzles are very small, and they can becme clgged easily if fine dust gets n the print head, and yu may nt be able t print prperly. When turned n after an extended perid f disuse, the printer may autmatically perfrm head cleaning t ensure print quality. Head cleaning will end after abut 10 t 15 minutes. Ntes n Handling Ink Packs and Ink Tanks Ntes n Handling D nt fld the paper r scratch the surface f the paper. Avid tuching the printable surface f the paper with yur bare hands. Misture and ils frm yur hands can affect print quality. Handle paper by the edges. We recmmend wearing cttn glves. D nt wet the paper. Nte the fllwing pints when handling ink packs and ink tanks. D nt thrw away the paper packaging as yu can use it fr string the paper. D nt remve the ink tanks. Ink tanks are calibrated when installed. Remving them can harm quality and functinality. Stre ink packs at rm temperature ut f direct sunlight. Avid lcatins that are subject t direct sunlight, excessive heat, r humidity. Remve rll paper that is nt in use frm the printer. Rewind it crrectly and then stre it in the riginal packaging that came with the rll paper. If yu leave the rll paper in the printer fr a lng time, its quality may decline. 16

17 Intrductin Ntes n handling printed paper T maintain lng lasting, high quality print results, nte the fllwing pints. D nt rub r scratch the printed surface. If they are rubbed r scratched, the ink may peel ff. D nt tuch the printed surface; Failure t bserve this precautin may cause ink t rub ff. Make sure the print uts are cmpletely dry befre flding f stacking; therwise, the clr may change where they tuch (leaves a mark). These marks will disappear if they are separated immediately and dried; hwever, they will remain if nt separated. If yu put the print uts in an album befre they are cmpletely dry, they may be blurred. D nt use a dryer t dry the print uts. Avid direct sunlight. Prevent clr distrtin while displaying r string the print uts by fllwing the instructins in the paper's dcumentatin. Nte: Typically, print uts and phts fade ver time (clr distrtin) due t the effects f light and varius cnstituents in the air. But, if care is taken in hw these items are stred, yu can help reduce disclratin. The clrs f phts, psters, and ther printed materials appear different under different lighting cnditins (light surces * ). The clrs f print uts frm this printer may als appear different under different light surces. * Light surces include sunlight, flurescent light, incandescent light, and ther types. 17

EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 is used t update firmware frm a cmputer and cpy paper settings bank created in the printer s setup menu t a cmputer. U Starting EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 n page 19 U Exiting EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 n page 19 Select this ptin during installatin if the printer and cmputer are cnnected via a netwrk. Installing this utility allws a wizard t be used t simplify the prcess f setting the addresses needed fr netwrk cnnectins. Duble-click the EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 icn n the desktp. The EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 icn is created when the applicatin is installed. Click Start > All Prgrams (r Prgrams) > EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 > EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2. Click the desired item in the EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 main windw. Uninstalling Sftware T remve the EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 r EPSON cmmunicatins driver, fllw the prcedure belw. c Imprtant: Yu must lg in with an Administratrs grup. A B Enter the Administratr passwrd when prmpted and then prceed with the remainder f the peratin. Exit any ther applicatins that may be running. Turn ff the printer, and unplug the interface cable. G t the Cntrl Panel and click Uninstall a prgram frm the Prgrams categry. Exiting EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 Click Exit in the EPSON LFP Remte Panel 2 main windw. C Select the sftware yu want t remve and then click Uninstall/Change (r Change/Remve r Add/Remve). Selecting the fllwing deletes the Epsn cmmunicatins drivers. J Insert the rll paper in the paper slt and pull it thrugh. Make sure that the paper is free f slack and that the end is nt flded. H Slide the rll paper right until it cntacts the adapter guides. Fllwing the adapter guide, slide the rll slwly t the ppsite side. Nte: D nt tuch the paper where it will be printed. After lading the rll paper, rtate the rll paper adapters as shwn t feed the paper thrugh. 22

Cut the paper using scissrs r a third-party cutter. M Check the media type. The printer will display the Paper Type and Rll Paper Remaining settings fr the paper currently selected with the printer. U Saving Settings n page 27 Remaining Setup When this ptin is turned On, the apprximate amunt f paper remaining is calculated based n the set paper length and the amunt used in printing, and this value is displayed in the infrmatin display area f the. tab. This allws yu t check the amunt f paper remaining n-screen befre printing, which helps yu t determine when yu need t replace the paper. Yu can als set a threshld value which, when the amunt f paper remaining decreases belw this level, will display a warning message. 25

Platen Gap Select the platen gap which is the distance between the print head and the paper. Nrmally, select Standard. Select a wider setting if printed images are smeared. If, upn perfrming head alignment yu feel that it is still nt cmpletely aligned, select Narrw. A B Press the d/u buttns n the paper settings menu t highlight Platen Gap and then press the Z buttn. Press the d/u buttns t select the target setting value, and then press the Z buttn. Detect Paper Thickness Yu can print ut a paper thickness detectin pattern t determine and set the ptimal paper thickness based n the printut. A B C Press the d/u buttns n the paper settings menu t highlight Detect Paper Thickness and then press the Z buttn. Press the Z buttn t print the paper thickness detectin pattern. Press the d/u buttns t select the number f the pattern with the least amunt f discrepancy between the lines in the printut, and then press the Z buttn t return the printer t the ready-t-print state. Paper Feed Adjust If the paper feed amunt is nt set crrectly, banding (hrizntal band patterns r disclratin) may ccur. If the banding is nt reslved after head cleaning r Head Alignment is perfrmed, adjust the amunt f paper feed crrectin. This value can be set in either f the fllwing tw ways: Pattern Visually check the printed pattern and enter the crrectin value. Value Change the value based n the banding bserved. The crrectin value is set as the rati in relatin t 1 meter (-0.70 t +0.70%). Printing an Alignment Pattern fr Crrectin Select Custm Paper Setting frm the paper menu. A B C Press the d/u buttns t select the bank where yu want t save the custm paper settings, then press the Z buttn. Press the d/u buttns t highlight Paper Feed Adjust and press the Z buttn. 28

If the margin set in an applicatin is larger than the fllwing setting values, sectins beynd the specified margins are nt printed. Fr example, if 15 mm is selected fr the left and right margins in the printer menus and the dcument fills the page, the 15 mm at the left and right sides f the page will nt be printed. The gray area in the illustratin belw shws the printable area. The arrw in the illustratin indicates the directin f the ejected paper. Make sure the trailing edge des nt cme inside the printing area. The print size des nt change even when the margins are changed. The printer enters sleep mde when there are n errrs, n print jbs being received, and n cntrl panel r ther peratins perfrmed. When the printer enters sleep mde, the cntrl panel's screen turns ff and the internal mtrs and ther parts switch ff t cnsume less pwer. Press the P buttn t exit sleep mde and return t the nrmal running state. The delay befre the printer enters sleep mde can be selected frm values between 5 and 240 minutes. At default settings, the printer enters sleep mde if n peratins are perfrmed fr 15 minutes. The delay can be changed frm the Setup menu. U Setup menu n page 40 Nte: When the printer enters sleep mde, the cntrl panel's screen ges blank as if the pwer has been turned ff, but the P light remains lit. Pwer Off Timer The printer is equipped with a Pwer Off Timer ptin that autmatically turns the printer ff if n errrs ccur, n print jbs are received, and n cntrl panel r ther peratins are perfrmed fr a set perid f time. The delay befre the printer turns ff autmatically can be selected frm values between 1 and 24 hurs in increments f 1 hur. At default settings, the printer turns ff autmatically if n errrs ccur, n print jbs are received, and n cntrl panel r ther peratins are perfrmed fr eight hurs. Pwer Off Timer settings can be adjusted frm the Setup menu. U Setup menu n page 40 Abut Pwer Management Yu can adjust the time befre Pwer Management is applied. Any increase will affect the printer s energy efficiency. Please cnsider the envirnment befre making any change. 31
