3 3 At A Glance Knw Yur Thermstat Yur thermstat has been pre-prgrammed frm the factry with n prgramming necessary. We recmmend using these pre-prgrammed settings fr a few days befre altering them as they ffer maximum energy saving benefits. If yu d decide t alter yur prgrams, use the charts n page 11 t write ut yur scheduled times and temperatures. After yu have recrded yur preferences, fllw the instructins n page 12 t alter yur temperature settings. There is n need t prgram the thermsat at the wall where it is munted! Remve the thermstat frm the backplate by gripping the sides firmly and pulling it straight ff. This allws yu t prgram the thermstat in cmfrt. After yu have prgrammed yur thermstat, n ther setting changes are necessary unless yu wish t brwse thrugh the menu t see hw yu may further adjust the independent settings f yur thermstat t meet yur lifestyle. The features sectin starting n page 30 f this manual will describe these settings. All settings have been preset fr ptimal perfrmance. 8 Setup Setting Day, Time, and System 4 8 Once yu install the batteries, the thermstat will prmpt yu t set the current date, time, and system type fr current day will be flashing. Use the r buttn t select yur current day, then t mve t mnth, and then year, until each is set. will advance yu t time setup. 2. Use the the r buttns t set the current time f day, AM r PM and then use t advance t hurs, and again t set minutes. Pressing again will advance yu t system setup. 3. Press [cnventl] r [heat pump] t select yur system type. Yu may als use the r buttns t make yur selectin. Nte: At anytime, if yu see the? icn n the screen, yu can press it fr mre infrmatin abut that setup, scheduling step, r menu ptin. 4. If yu selected [cnventl], select [gas/il] r [electric] as yur furnace type. Nte: Furnace type shuld be [electric] fr heat pump systems. 5. Press. 10 Scheduling Scheduling Intrductin 5 Read the scheduling sectin thrughly t ensure yu understand yur scheduling ptins and which will best fit with yur lifestyle. The fllwing ntes shuld help yu with scheduling: * The schedule time can be set in 15 minute increments, and remains the same fr bth Heat and Cl prgrams. * The scheduled temperature can be set in increments f 1 F (1 C). * After 10 minute withut a key press, the thermstat will return t the hme display screen. * When setting the schedule time, nte the AM / PM indicatr. * At any stage during yur scheduling, yu can use the Back r buttns t mve / frward r backwards thrugh the steps. Dne will save any changes, even if yu have nt scheduled r altered all settings. * Arrws beside each schedule mde and beside heat/cl mdes will indicate which nes are active. * A [Brackets] arund a wrd in the message windw at the tp indicates it can be pressed as a buttn. * If the? shws up n the screen, pressing it will give yu mre infrmatin abut that step /24/2010

12 Scheduling Setting Yur 5 1. Press the Buttn t enter Scheduling mde. 2. Start by pressing the first day yu want t prgram n the day select screen. In this example we will use Mnday. 3. The thermstat will shw Mnday as the selected day. Chse the perid yu want t prgram first: Away, Asleep, r At hme n the screen. Away will be used fr this example. 4. Use the r buttns t adjust the start time n the left side f the screen fr the perid yu will be away and press. 5. Again, yu will use the r buttns t adjust the end time n the right side f the screen fr this scheduled perid. Press again /24/2010

14 Scheduling Setting Yur 5 6. Set the temperature fr yur heating cycle as indicated by the flashing Heat t icn n yur screen. Use the and buttns t change the temperature and press. 7. Yu will be asked t set yur cling cycle, indicated by the flashing Cl t. Set this temperature with yur r buttns and hit. 8. The thermstat will start this prcess again fr Asleep. Repeat steps 1-9 t schedule the time and set the temperature fr yur sleep perid. When finished pressed t get t At 9. When setting At, yu will nly be asked t set a temperature. The thermstat calculates yur At time by what remains unscheduled frm yur Away and Asleep perids. Set yur Heat T temperature first and press, then Set yur Cl T temp and press Dne T finish Scheduling yur current day. Nte: Yu d nt have t schedule all perids in rder. 16 Scheduling Setting Yur When yu have cmpleted scheduling yur day, yu will be returned t the cpy day screen. The cpy day screen will nw shw Cpy day t... and ask yu if yu wish t cpy the day yu just scheduled t any ther days. Select Cpy day t... and chse the days yu wish t add the schedule t. Press the buttn t ignre changes and return t the hme screen, r Dne t save changes and select a new day individually. 11. Select each day yu wish t cpy the schedule t by tuching it n the screen directly. The arrw indicatrs beside each day yu select will shw t indicate the day has been selected. In figure 12 yu will see Tue - Fri have been selected. Nte: The riginal day scheduled will nt shw n the screen as it is the ne being cpied. Yu may use a pen r ther small instrument t select the days if necessary. 12. Press Dne n the screen and it will flash Mn cppied t (days selected) and return yu t the day select screen t prgram anther day if any are left unprgrammed. Repeat steps 3-12 until all days are scheduled. Pressing at any time will return yu t the hme screen withut saving changes. Nte: Yu can press the the scheduling. Turn On Off at anytime while in Scheduling Mde t turn n r ff 13. Once all days are prgrammed, yu will be taken back t the Screen. If yu need t make any changes, press the buttn t reenter schedule edit mde /24/2010

18 Scheduling Temprary Temperature Change 5 With Temprary Temperature Change yu have the ability t alter the temperature fr nly the current running schedule fr ne day. 1. Press the r buttns t select a new temperature. 2. Press the Dne buttn t save changes. Nte: Temprary Temperature Change is nt a permanent setting. Yur thermstat will nly run the new temperature until the next scheduled perid change. After yur thermstat changes t a new schedule set, yur thermstat will resume yur existing schedule. 3. T escape Temprary Temperature Change, press the Resume buttn. The help banner will shw running - and the apprpriate schedule perid t indicate the thermstat has resumed yur regular schedule /24/2010

20 Scheduling Turning Off Scheduling 5 T turn ff yur schedule and have the thermstat permanently set t ne temperature: 1. Press the buttn nce. 2. Press the Turn Off buttn. 3. The help banner will shw schedule ff - permanently hld temp at. Use the r buttns t adjust yur temperature and press Dne when finished. Nte: Yu will ntice the black bar n the screen beside the buttn is nt displayed anymre. This indicates, n schedule is set t run. Yu can see the difference between figure 1 and Frm the hme screen, use the r buttns t adjust yur temperature. The system will nw ignre all schedules and run at the temperature set by yu n the hme screen. 5. If at anytime yu wish t change the temperature, just use the r buttns. 6. If yu wish t reactivate yur schedules, press the t turn schedules back n and then press Dne. buttn and use the Turn On buttn /24/2010

22 Scheduling Tday 5 The Tday feature allws yu t verride yur schedule fr 1 day. It can be used fr example if yu are hme sick r ff wrk n a day when yu wuld nrmally have the thermstat s Away mde active. When used, the Tday feature will select yur At temperature t run fr the curse f the day until yur scheduled Asleep time starts, then revert back t running yur nrmal schedule. T activate: 1. Press the Tday buttn. 2. The current At temperature will be defaulted n the screen. 3. Press the Dne buttn t return t the hme screen and save yur setting. 4. 24 Scheduling Save Away 5 The Save Away feature allws yu t save energy and mney while yu are away frm yur hme utside f yur nrmal Away schedule. This can include days yu will be away fr vacatin, r a few hurs away frm yur hme, while running errands fr example. The Save Away feature can be set fr as little as 1 hur r as much as 30 days. T set the save away feature: 1. Press the Away Save buttn. 2. Yu will see the number f hurs r days flashing n the screen, use the r t adjust the amunt f time yu will be away. Press the buttn t advance t yur temperature setting. Use the r t adjust the degrees up r dwn t the temperature yu want set fr this time perid. Nte: Up t 12 hurs can be set befre changing t day increments. 3. Press the Dne buttn t finish Save Away settings. 26 Features Alerts 6 This chapter will utline the varius alerts the thermstat will reprt t yu and hw t respnd t them. 1. Lw Battery: This will appear in the message windw when yur batteries are starting t run lw n pwer and shuld be changed t avid system interruptins, (Figure 1). Change the batteries by gripping the sides f the thermstat firmly and pulling straight back away frm the wall, (Figure 1a). The batteries are lcated in the backside f the thermstat. The thermstat requires 2 (AA) batteries t perate. If yu d nt replace the batteries in a timely manner, the screen will g blank except fr the lw battery warning, (Figure 1b). Yur system will shut dwn and will nt perate until yu replace the batteries. Replacing the batteries will clear this alert. Nte: Settings will nt be lst while replacing the batteries. They are stred in the thermstat s memry. 2. Filter Change: When this message appears n the screen, it indicates yu shuld check yur furnace filter t see if it needs t be replaced. T reset this cunter see page /24/2010

28 Features Alerts 6 3. Auxiliary Heat: On multi-stage heat pumps this alert indicates yur secnd stage heat is running. 4. Check System: Sme heat pump systems are equipped with the ability t check system perfrmance, indicated by the presence f an L wire attached t the backplate. This icn will flash n screen t alert the user that the heat pump is reprting a prblem with the system. It may be necessary t have the heat pump checked r serviced by an HVAC technician /24/2010

30 Features Optins 6 Under yur ptins yu have the ability t change many f the features f the thermstat. After making changes t each menu ptin, the thermstat will shw Updated and save yur changes. T access these ptins: 1. Press the buttn. Set date 2. Once in the ptins list, yu have 5 main chices, & time, Reset filter, and Mre.... Yu may als select Dne t return t the hme screen.,, Reset Lck 3. Set Date and Time: This allws yu t change the current time and/r date. Press Set date the & time buttn and fllw the n screen prmpts r the instructins n page 8, steps 1-3. Once yu have reset the time and/r date, press t be returned t the screen. Dne will return yu t the hme screen. 4. Reset Filter: If the filter indicatr is flashing n the hme screen yu can reset it Reset here. Press the filter buttn. Press either [n] r [yes] n the screen t mve the checkmark t it and press Dne. [yes] will reset the filter cunter t 0 and clear the warning, [N] will nt clear the warning and it will cntinue t flash n the hme screen. Press t exit t the hme screen withut saving changes. 5. Reset schedule: Resetting the schedule will return it t the factry default settings. Reset Press the buttn. Press either [ Yes] r [ N] n the screen t mve the checkmark t it and press Dne. If [ N] is selected, the schedule will nt be reset /24/2010

Thermstat Lck: Yur thermstat has the ptin f being lcked t prevent unwanted temperature r schedule changes. Press the Lck buttn. Use the r buttns t change the first digit t 0 thrugh 9. will advance yu t the next digit t be changed. Once yu have change the 4 digits t the cde yu want, press Dne. The screen will flash lck passcde has been set and return yu t menu ptins. The cde will take effect nce yu return t the hme screen where yu will see the lck icn. Figure 6a and 6b. If yu press n the lck screen t exit t the hme screen the lck feature will nt activate. 7. Thermstat Unlck: T unlck yur thermstat nce it has been lcked, press the Lck buttn. Use the r buttns t change the first digit. will advance yu t the next digit t be changed. Once yu have the prper 4 digit cde, press Dne and the screen will flash thermstat has been unlcked and return yu t the hme screen. NOTE: If yu d nt remember yur passcde, the master unlck cde is Temp F/C: The thermstat can change yur temperature reading between Fahrenheit and Celcius. All f these settings have been set fr ptimal perfrmance at the factry and d nt need t be changed. There are 2 sectins in the advanced settings: User starting n page 36 and System starting n page 40. User settings will mre pertain t yur persnal preferences where as System will directly affect hw yur system runs. The features fr each are listed here with their default settings. If yu wish t skip a feature withut making any changes, just press. Cnventinal systems typically use a cmpressr utside fr cling and a seperate heating system inside, where as a heat pumps use the cmpressr utside fr bth heat and cl. If yu are unsure f yur system type, see Technical Supprt n page 52. Press either [cnventl] r [heat pump] n the screen and chse t advance t the next ptin. 3. Furnace Type: If yu selected [cnventl] n the previus screen, yu will need t specify the type f furnace yur system uses. Press either [gas/il] r [electric] and chse t advance t the next ptin. Nte: If yu have a heat pump this setting shuld be [electric]. 4. Span 1: The next menu ptin is t set yur thermstats primary span. The span setting allws yu t adjust the system ON/OFF cycle rate. The default setting is 2F. The system cycles ON r OFF when the temperature is within 2 F (1 C) abve and belw the set temperature. Aut Seasn Span: When yur thermstat is set t Aut, this setting allws the thermstat t switch between heat and cl mdes based ff the rm temperature. The aut seasn span limits hw clse yur heat and cl set temperatures can be t allw the thermstat t switch between the tw mdes prperly. Use the r buttns t adjust between 3 O t 6 O. Example: If yu set yur heat temperature fr a schedule t be 68 O, the lwest yu wuld be able t set yur cl temperature fr that schedule wuld be 73 O, with an aut seasn span f 5. Assuming yu have a stage 1 span f 2, see page 40 fr stage 1 span descriptin, a heating temperature f 68 O, and a cling temperature f 73 O, yur thermstat will activate heat at 67 O and run till 69 O and shut ff. If the temperature cntinues t rise up t 74 O, 1 O abve yur cling temperature, yur thermstat will switch t cling, run t 72 O and then shut dwn. The thermstat will switch back t heating if the temperature drps t 67 O, 1 O belw yur heat temperature. 7. 46 Features Energy Savings Bar 6 The Energy Savings Bar indicates estimated energy savings. The preset schedules in the thermstat have been designed t give yu ptimal energy savings, r five bars. Altering these schedules has a direct impact n the energy savings indicatr. Altering the temperatures and/r times that the schedules run culd decrease the estimated energy savings. 1. Example 1 shws the thermstat running the default schedules in the thermstat. 2. Example 2 shws the thermstat running altered schedules. This example culd indicate the At schedule running fr a lnger time frame, r the temperatures may have been altered t where there is less f a gap between the At and away r Asleep temperatures. Pwer Failure Prtectin In the event that pwer is lst, the batteries will act as backup, saving yur settings and prgrams. Backlight Yur thermstat has a white LED lamp that backlights the display fr easy viewing in the dark. When any key is pressed, the backlight will be activated. The display will stay illuminated fr 15 secnds after the last key is pressed. System Prtectin T prtect yur system frm cycling, system turning n and ff rapidly, yur thermstat will prevent yur system frm turning back n fr up t 3 minutes after it has been shut dwn.
