Yu will be able t carry just a single phne and use that smartphne n bth yur cellular and Glbalstar s satellite netwrk. Sat-Fi is designed fr bth vehicle-based and fixed lcatins. Vehicle-based examples may include cars, trucks, RVs, ATVs as well as bats. Fixed lcatin slutins may include remte areas where there is n cellular cverage and satellite cmmunicatin is desired r needed. An example f a typical Sat-Fi user wuld be a bat wner wh uses a satellite phne when heading ut n the water. With a Sat-Fi nbard, the wner des nt have t carry bth a smartphne and satellite phne; all he needs t d is simply register his smartphne n Sat-Fi when he bards. The wner is nw free t mve abut the vessel while maintaining bth cellular (if available) and satellite cnnectivity all n ne phne. Additinally with a smartphne there is n need t achieve prper antenna alignment r have a clear view f the sky t send r receive satellite calls. If Sat-Fi is prperly munted, the wner can send r receive satellite calls anywhere n the vessel with his smartphne. While nrmal mbile satellite phnes are single user devices, Sat-Fi allws fr multiple simultaneus user cnnectins. While nly ne satellite call can be made at a time, up t 8 users may cnnect t a single Sat-Fi sharing its satellite cnnectin. Once yu are registered and cnnected t the Sat-Fi device yu are immediately able t make utbund calls. Additinal users and guests will be able t register their smartphnes n Sat-Fi and make calls r data cnnectins. All calls and data cnnectins are made thrugh the Sat-FI App. This app needs t be dwnladed n yur Andrid r ios device in rder t cnnect t the Glbalstar netwrk. GLOBALSTAR SAT-FI INSTALLATION Installatin Prcess Overview The Glbalstar Sat-Fi hardware installatin prcess is very simple: Install/munt external antenna Secure Glbal Sat-Fi Unit t a flat surface area Cnnect Sat-Fi unit with external antenna External Satellite Antenna Installatin The Sat-Fi des nt have an internal satellite antenna and the external satellite antenna is necessary fr cmmunicatin between the satellite and the Glbalstar Sat-Fi unit. The single mst imprtant cnsideratin f the Glbalstar Sat-Fi installatin is the lcatin f the external antenna. The Sat-Fi external antenna needs a clear and unbstructed view f the sky in all directins. It must be in a psitin that minimizes bstructins that blck the signal frm the satellites and far enugh away frm ther RF devices t prevent interference. 8 Marine Antenna Installatin There is mre than ne apprach t munting the marine external antenna and every vessel installatin is different. Fllw the belw generic steps while installing the antenna: Fr best results the antenna shuld be munted at the highest pint n the vessel with a 360 degree view f the sky. The antenna must nt be psitined within range f radar equipment r ther RF interference. The antenna must be at least 3 feet (1 Meter) frm ther antennas (including GPS antennas). Use nly the caxial cables that cme with the antenna kit. D nt cut r mdify the caxial antenna cable. D nt kink the caxial cables Use adhesive lined heatshrink tubing t seal all external cable cnnectins t prevent misture and crrsin damage. Heatshrink tubing is available withut the adhesive lining, but it des nt cmpletely prtect the cables/cnnectrs frm salt and water ingress. Attach the Marine antenna t a standard 14 threads per inch marine mast (Nt Included). 9 Magnetic Patch (Car Antenna) Installatin An external magnetic patch (car antenna) is required fr satellite cmmunicatin when the Sat-Fi is used inside a vehicle. The external car antenna shuld be munted n the rf f the vehicle with an unbstructed view f the sky. The external car antenna is easily munted t the rf f yur vehicle via its magnetic base. Inspect the surface f the magnet fr damage befre placing the antenna n the car. The external car antenna is nt designed fr high speed driving - use mderate speeds when munted n the rf. The metal surface n the underside f the external car antenna can get ht; use cautin when taking it ff the rf. D nt munt the external car antenna n the trunk r a lwer surface perfrmance culd be affected. The external antenna uses caxial cables that cnnect the antenna t the Sat-Fi. Use nly the caxial cables that cme with the antenna kit. D nt cut r mdify the caxial antenna cable. 10 Helix Antenna Installatin When selecting a lcatin t munt the external antenna there are several issues t take int cnsideratin: Munt the helix antenna s that it has a 360 degree view f the sky frm 10 degrees abve the hrizn. The antenna must be at least 3 feet (1 Meter) frm ther antennas (including GPS antennas). If munting n a flat rf, avid placing antenna near chimneys and ther physical structures such as air handling units etc. If the rf is inclined, place the antenna far enugh abve the peak s the rf des nt cause signal blckage. Munt the antenna s that it is stable and nt susceptible t vibratin and mvement in windy envirnments Use nly the caxial cables that cme with the antenna kit. D nt cut r mdify the caxial antenna cable. Use caxial sealant, shrink-wrap tubing, electrical tape, r ther suitable prducts t seal all external cable cnnectins t prevent misture and crrsin damage. 11 Sat-Fi Unit Munting Identify an apprpriate lcatin fr the Sat-Fi unit t be munted. The ideal lcatin fr the Sat-Fi unit shuld be within the cable length f the external antenna and in a dry lcatin clse t an AC/DC pwer surce. Additinally, shuld be in a central lcatin, centering it in a lcatin yu wish t cver, t maximize its 100ft Wi-Fi radius. The fllwing materials are prvided t munt the Sat-Fi unit: 3M Dual Lck Tape 3M Bumpn Feet 3M Dual Lck Tape The 3M Dual Lck Tape that is included in the accessries kit is recmmended fr munting in vehicles and bats. 3M Bumpn Feet The 3M Bumpn Feet that is included in the accessries kit is recmmended fr fixed lcatins n land. 12 Caxial Cable Cnnectins After the external antenna and Sat-Fi unit have been installed and munted in their apprpriate lcatins, the antenna cables and pwer need t cnnected. Cable Cnnectin t the External Antenna 1. Cnnect the Transmit (Tx) cnnectr f the antenna caxial cable t the Transmit (Tx) prt n the external antenna. 2. Cnnect the Receive (Rx) cnnectr f the antenna caxial cable t the Receive (Rx) prt n the external antenna. Cable Cnnectin t the Sat-Fi Unit 1. Cnnect the Transmit (Tx) cnnectr f the antenna caxial cable t the Transmit (Tx) prt n the Sat-Fi unit. 2. 13 Wi-Fi Antenna and Pwer Cnnectin Perfrm the fllwing fr the Wi-Fi Antenna cnnectin: 1. Place the rubber O-Ring ver the Wi-Fi antenna prt. 2. Cnnect the Wi-Fi antenna t the Wi-Fi prt n the back f the Sat-Fi Unit - Finger tighten nly. 3. 14 Pwering n the Sat-Fi The Sat-Fi autmatically pwers n when it is cnnected t a pwer surce. The single push buttn in the frnt acts as a hard pwer reset switch allwing the Sat-Fi t be easily restarted withut having t physically discnnect the pwer. Once pwered n the Sat-Fi perfrms the fllwing sequence: Autmatically bts Enables the Wi-Fi Attempts t register with the Glbalstar Satellite Netwrk This prcess may take up t 30 secnds t cmplete. The LED n the frnt panel prvides a visual indicatin f the Sat-Fi s status: ON (Slid) The Sat-Fi is registered with the Glbalstar Satellite Netwrk and is able t send/receive calls and data Fast Blinking The Sat-Fi is searching fr service and/r registering with the Glbalstar Satellite Netwrk Slw Blinking The Sat-Fi is in use; either sending/receiving a call r data transmissin OFF The Sat-Fi is pwered ff and nt cnnected t a pwer surce Sat-Fi Installatin & Cnfiguratin Guide Page 11

SETUP AND CONFIGURATION OF GLOBALSTAR SAT-FI Cnnecting t the Glbalstar Sat-Fi Wireless Netwrk Yur smartphne r ther wireless device must cnnect via Wi-Fi t the Sat-Fi t access the user interface. The Sat-Fi is shipped with a default Wi-Fi cnfiguratin as fllws: Wi-Fi Netwrk Name: SatFi<XXXX> (<XXXX> is a unique identifier f the Sat- Fi Unit) Example: SatFi6A3E90 Passwrd: Satfi1234 Perfrm the fllwing steps t cnnect yur smartphne r ther wireless device t the Sat-Fi: 1. On yur smartphne r ther wireless device turn n yur Wi-Fi cnnectin and attempt t cnnect t the SatFi<Unique Identifier> netwrk. 2. A Wi-Fi cnnectin dialg will be displayed. In the Passwrd text-entry field, enter the apprpriate passwrd. 3. Press the Cnnect buttn. 4. Yu shuld nw be cnnected t the Sat-Fi Wi-Fi netwrk. Sat-Fi Installatin & Cnfiguratin Guide Page 12

16 Accessing the Glbalstar Sat-Fi User Interface If fr any reasn yu wuld like t change the Sat-Fi lgn passwrd r fr ther administrative purpses, the Sat-Fi User Interface may be accessed by any web brwser frm a smartphne, cmputer r ther wireless device cnnected t the Glbalstar Sat-Fi Wireless Netwrk. Perfrm the fllwing t access the Sat-Fi User Interface: 1. Open yur web brwser 2. In the address bar enter: 3. A Sign In dialg will be displayed. In the Name field, enter the administratr name. In the Passwrd field, enter the passwrd. Press the Sign in buttn. NOTE: By default the username is admin and the passwrd is admin. 4. Yu will nw be lgged int the Sat-Fi User Interface. 17 5. SAT-FI UNIT USER INTERFACE The Sat-Fi Unit is cnfigured via a web-based interface. This interface allws yu t: Mnitr netwrk cnnectivity Cnfigure the Wi-Fi Change administratr s passwrd Reset system t Factry Defaults View diagnstic infrmatin Mnitring Netwrk Cnnectivity The Sat-Fi Status Page prvides an verview f the systems health and status. This page is helpful in diagnsing prblems with sending and receiving phne calls. Additinally the Sat-Fi Status page refreshes every 30 secnds prviding a real time view f the system. 18 Satellite Status Sectin The Satellite Status sectin displays the fllwing satellite cnnectivity characteristics: State Displays the cnnectin status: idle The Sat-Fi is ready t send and receive calls, but is nt currently active unregistered The Sat-Fi is nt yet registered with the Glbalstar Netwrk dialing The Sat-Fi is placing an utbund call ringing The Sat-Fi is receiving an inbund call r in the prcess f cnnecting an utbund call active The Sat-Fi currently in a call unknwn The Sat-Fi is nt respnding and has encuntered an errr. 19 Wi-Fi Clients Sectin The Wi-Fi Clients sectin displays the fllwing characteristics f all current and recently cnnected smartphnes and ther wireless devices. MAC Address Displays the Media Access Cntrl (MAC) address f the cnnected device. This is the unique hardware address f the Wi-Fi system within yur device Signal Avg Displays the average received signal strength f the cnnected device. A series f fur bars displays the strength f the signal frm the smartphne r ther device. Devices with fewer bars may have prblems sending/receiving phne calls and data. Bitrate Displays the cmmunicatin rate with the cnnected device Authenticated Displays whether the device has been authenticated yes The device will be able t send/receive calls and data n - The device will nt be able send/receive calls and data Rx Bytes Displays the ttal number f bytes that the Sat-Fi unit has received frm a cnnected device Tx Bytes Displays the ttal number f bytes that the Sat-Fi unit has transmitted t the cnnected device Inactive Time Displays the amunt f time since the smartphne r ther wireless device has last cmmunicated with the Sat-Fi Sat-Fi Installatin & Cnfiguratin Guide Page 16

20 DHCP Leases Sectin When a smartphne r ther wireless device cnnects t the Sat-Fi, it is assigned an IP address by the DHCP server. The DHCP Leases sectin maps the device s MAC address t their assigned IP address. MAC Address Displays the Media Access Cntrl (MAC) address f the cnnected device. This is the unique hardware address f the Wi-Fi system within yur device IP Address Displays the IP address assigned t yur smartphne r ther wireless device Hstname Displays the hstname assigned t yur smartphne r ther wireless device by the Sat-Fi Lease Expires Displays the time when the DHCP Lease will expire and the smartphne r ther wireless device will have t acquire a new IP address Sat-Fi Installatin & Cnfiguratin Guide Page 17

21 Wi-Fi Cnfiguratin Page The Wi-Fi Cnfiguratin page is used t cnfigure the Sat-Fi s Wi-Fi cnnectin/authenticatin infrmatin. On this page yu can: Change the SSID name Change the lgin passwrd Change the Wi-Fi channel Sat-Fi Installatin & Cnfiguratin Guide Page 18

22 Changing the SSID and Passwrd The SSID is the name f the Wi-Fi netwrk hsted by Sat-Fi. By default this is SatFi<XXXX> (where <XXXX> is a unique identifier f the Sat-Fi Unit. The default passwrd t access the Sat-Fi s Wi-Fi is satfi1234. Glbalstar recmmends that yu change the passwrd t prevent unauthrized use f yur Sat-Fi system. T change yur SSID and passwrd perfrm the fllwing: 1. In the SSID field, enter a new Wi-Fi netwrk name. This value must be 5 t 32 characters in length. 2. In the Passwrd text-entry field, enter a new passwrd. The passwrd must be 8 t 63 characters in length and can cntain letters, numbers and special characters. 3. Press the Submit buttn. WARNING: Pressing the Submit buttn will autmatically restart the Sat-Fi. If the SSID and Passwrd have been changed, all smartphnes and ther wireless devices will have t manually recnnect and lgin t the Sat-Fi. 4. A warning dialg bx will be displayed, press OK. 5. 23 Changing the Wi-Fi Channel In areas where there might be a significant number f Wi-Fi channels, it may be necessary t change the channel t imprve Wi-Fi cnnectivity with yur smartphne and ther wireless devices. Changing the channel will have n effect n satellite cnnectivity. T change the Wi-Fi channel perfrm the fllwing: 1. In the Channel text-entry field, enter a new channel number. This value can be 1 t Press the Submit buttn. NOTE: Pressing the Submit buttn will autmatically restart the Sat-Fi. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 if there are still any Wi-Fi cnnectivity prblems. 24 Service Integratin The Service Integratin Mde must be set t Openity One. If it is nt set t Openity One, perfrm the fllwing: 1. Click n the Service Integratin Mde drp-dwn menu and select Openity One. 2. Press the Submit buttn. NOTE: Pressing the Submit buttn will autmatically restart the Sat-Fi. In the Username field, enter a new username. This value must be 5 t 32 characters in length. 2. In the Passwrd field, enter a new passwrd. The passwrd must be 8 t 63 characters in length and can cntain letters, numbers and special characters. 3. In the Cnfirm Passwrd field, re-enter the same passwrd yu entered in Step Press the Submit buttn. WARNING: Pressing the Submit buttn will autmatically restart the Sat-Fi. Yu will be required t sign in using yur new username and passwrd. 5. A warning dialg bx will be displayed, press OK. Resetting the Sat-Fi t Factry Default Pressing the Factry Reset buttn will autmatically restre the Sat-Fi t its riginal factry settings. The Sat-Fi will autmatically restart as part f the prcess and if the SSID and Passwrd have been changed, all smartphnes and ther wireless devices will have t manually recnnect and lgin t the Sat-Fi.
