KG and its subsidiaries. 1 Overview In this dcument Rhde&Schwarz is intrducing tw cst and time effective slutins fr WiMAX chipset prductin lines: Frm a single bx test slutin, using the CMW270, t multi-instrument setup, using the Signal Generatr SMJ100A tgether with the Spectrum Analyser FSL. All instruments, which can be used, have integrated WiMAX persnalities cmplying t the e-2005 standard. Thrugh ur cperatin with the chipset manufacturer, the Test Sftware (CMWrun) is custmized t the chipset and enables ur custmers the realisatin f fast calibratin and verificatin rutines with autmatic Rx/Tx measurements. 4 CMW 270 The CMW270 Mbile WiMAX Cmmunicatin Tester cmbines signal analysis and signal generatin in a single instrument. Fr time ptimized RF calibratin in nn-signaling mde, the CMW270 prvides fast transmitter measurements and a versatile arbitrary wavefrm generatr fr receiver testing. Fig. 1 - R&S Test Setup with CMW270 and CMWrun Rhde&Schwarz s slutin prvides a manageable test setup: The Devices under Test (DUT) can be cnnected via USB r LAN t a ntebk r PC. The CMW270 can be easily integrated int prductin lines by remte cntrl via LAN r IEEE (GPIB). The sftware CMWrun is designed as a Sequencer fr different Sftware Tests with R&S instruments. It is als used t cntrl the R&S Test Slutin fr WiMAX Radi Cnfrmance Testing. FSL & SMJ100A The alternative setup is based n Spectrum Analyzer FSL and the Signal Generatr SMJ100A which can be remte-cntrlled via IEEE (GPIB) r LAN. Figure 2 shws the principal test setup. This setup is intended fr higher level accuracy esp. fr Base Statin testing. Fr generating the signals the arbitrary wavefrm generatr r the WiMAX ptin fr the and SMJ can be used. Instrument Settings After cnnecting the measurement devices via LAN r GPIB accrding t the test setup and starting CMWrun, the cnnectin t the measurement equipment has t be cnfigured in the SCPI-Cnnectin menu f CMWrun. The cnnectin will remain pen in subsequent test cases and tests. CMWrun basic settings CMWrun is based n a mdular structure. Hence it is easy t cnfigure the settings fr a specific device under test. 1MA128_4e 6 Rhde & Schwarz

7 Fig. 3 - Delivered and used libraries The CMWSequansCalibratin.dll is the main cmpnent f the custmized autmated test. In this library Rhde&Schwarz implemented the specific parameter and settings fr the Sequans chipset calibratin and verificatin measurement accrding t [1]. The cntrl f the chipset is dne via Telnet which is prvided in CMWrun via the mdule TelnetLib.dll. Additinally needed is SettingsFileEditr.dll fr mdifying the calibratin file. 5 Calibratin Calibratin rutines are required t calibrate and balance the internal cmpnents f the DUT. 8 frequencies, in the variable part additinally the gain changes ver a less amunt f frequencies. IQ Calibratin In the first step an IQ calibratin is necessary. This is dne autmatically by the DUT. Additinally a calibratin file is generated in the device and als cpied via FTP t the cntrlling PC. Calibratin f the Tx characteristics Tx Pwer calibratin ensures that the DUT transmits the defined pwer levels after the calibratin. The CMW270 is cnfigured t measure the pwer f the signal. The expected level f the measurements are cnfigured in CMWrun. In the static part the pwer is measured via demdulatin f the WiMAX signal, in the variable part a CW signal ( tne ) transmitted by the DUT is measured. The TX utput pwer f the DUT is cmpared t the target pwer fllwed by an adjustment if necessary. The crrected values are stred in a calibratin file n the cntrlling PC. Calibratin f the Rx characteristics The CMW270 generates a specified cntinuus Wimax wavefrm at a defined frequency. The DUT measures the pwer and reprts it t the cntrl-sftware. Bth are cmpared, in case f any differences, and the sftware prvides the respective crrectin value and stre it int the calibratin file. Calibratin File All calibratin parameters are stred in the calibratin.cfg file. In the last step the calibratin file with the crrected values f Rx and Tx calibratin is cpied via FTP server t the DUT. The DUT lads this calibratin file at the startup phase if available. Testplan The rutines described abve are chipset specific. Therefre it is necessary t create a specific Testplan fr each device under test. The Testplan cntains the main functinality. Yu can easily set up ur test plan by selecting the desired test mdule prvided by Rhde&Schwarz. 9 Fig. 4 - Creatin f a new Testplan Prperties can be used t parameterize the Testplan. It is pssible t edit the prperties in the CMWrun by duble-clicking the apprpriate test. Fig. 5 - Prperties f the Calibratin Measurement Test Frequencies Here yu can enter up t eight test frequencies in the range 2.5 GHz 2.7 GHz. The reference frequency is fixed t 2.55 GHz. The calibratin is divided in a static and a variable part where yu can select the wanted frequency indices. The default setting is recmmended by Sequans. 1MA128_4e 9 Rhde & Schwarz

10 External Attenuatin Depending n the test setup and the established cnnectin between the DUT and the CMW270, the attenuatin has t be cnfigured. In the test setup the CMW is used as signal generatr and signal analyzer. The attenuatin fr bth functinalities can be entered fr each test frequency. 6 Verificatin Calibratin rutines are required t calibrate and balance the internal cmpnents f the DUT. Cmmn fr bth parts is the setup f the frequencies and the External attenuatin. Test Frequencies Here yu can enter up t eight test frequencies in the range 2.5 GHz 2.7 GHz. External Attenuatin Depending n the test setup and the established cnnectin between the DUT and the CMW270, the attenuatin has t be cnfigured. 11 RX Verificatin The fllwing tests verify the receiver calibratin. T perfrm these tests, the signal generatr f the CMW270 is cntrlled by CMWrun t transmit a defined test signal with dedicated frequency/level settings. The level errr and CINR will be measured by the device and reprted back t the CMWrun. Fig. 6 - Prperties f verificatin RX RX Level Yu can enter a RX start and a stp level and als the level steps and select n which frequencies shall be measured. With additinal measurement at secnd RX cnnectr the measurement will als be dne n the secnd RX cnnectr f the DUT (RX1). RX Sensitivity Yu can select the frequencies fr the sensitivity measurement. The measurement can be either dne n ne fixed dwnlink level which can be entered (e.g dbm fr 64-QAM ¾ signal). At this level the limit check will be perfrmed. With checking level range the measurements is dne n the levels taken frm the RX level sectin. A special arbitrary file accrding t [1] is used. RX Limits Yu can enter the limits fr CINR, pwer errr and the PER. These limits are checked and displayed with a pass/fail indicatin in the measurement reprt. 1MA128_4e 11 Rhde & Schwarz

12 Tx Verificatin Fig. 7 - Prperties f Verificatin TX The purpse f this test is t verify the accuracy f the Tx Calibratin n ne abslute level ( internal gain = db, which results in an abslute utput level f arund 21 dbm) and a relative pwer measurement acrss the Tx range. Fr bth parts yu can select the frequencies separately. The relative measurement is taken in 1 db steps frm -17 db gain up t +28 db gain. After the measurement a pst prcessing is dne where the relative errrs f certain steps ( 1 db, 2 db, 3 db, 5 db and 10 db) are calculated and displayed. These limits are: Delta = 1 db: 0.5 db Delta = 2 db: 1.0 db Delta = 3 db: 1.5 db else: 2.0 db Yu can als enter the TX limits fr the abslute pwer measurement and the EVM. 1MA128_4e 12 Rhde & Schwarz

13 Verificatin with signaling Test depth will be significantly imprved by verificatin under signaling cnditins, thus als verifying higher layer inter-wrking in a real wrld scenari in rder t guarantee a psitive end-user experience by assuring immediate and successfull cnnectin t the WiMAX netwrk. 14 Verificatin with signaling autmatically wrks with all chipsets, as the cmmunicatin is specified by the IEEE802.16e standard. As there s n special adaptatin t the individual chipset necessary, this applicatin nte mainly discusses the nn-signaling verificatin. Please ask yur lcal Rhde & Schwarz representative fr a signalling demnstratin. 7 Measurement Reprt CMWrun prvides a Measurement Reprt fr each Testplan. Fr the calibratin it shws detailed infrmatin abut measured and calculated values (accrding t [1]) which will be used in the calibratin.cfg file.
