Single Channel per Carrier Spectrum Allcatin ILLUSTRATION In this example channels 1 6 are dedicated SCPC channels. The remaining spectrum is available fr additinal channels, but is currently unutilized. Satellite bandwidth is precius: The high fixed cst and limited capacity f satellite cmmunicatins bandwidth means that tls that enable its ecnmic and efficient use are intrinsically valuable. Opprtunistic Mdem TM targets the weaknesses f the SCPC spectrum utilizatin mdel and prvides ecnmic and technlgical benefits. 2

OM TM is pprtunistic in that it can dynamically add and drp links (A-E) depending n availability r interference. When carriers frm the OM TM aggregate are drpped, the channel will still exist, but with reduced bandwidth. 3

9 Telstar 11N Opprtunistic Mdem Test Cnfiguratin Telesat Test: On June tw prttype OM TM mdems were used t establish independent Frward (high speed) and Return (lw speed) links acrss T11N. The five assigned carriers were perated against live backgrund traffic. The fur Frward link carriers were aggregated int a single lgical IP link. One narrwband carrier was used as a dedicated IP Return link. The Frward link cntained a ttal bandwidth f 12.5 MHz. The fur carriers f the Frward link were spread acrss 54 MHz n tw adjacent transpnders with different SFD (Pad) settings. Test cmputers utilizing the Frward link utilized iperf t test the actual achievable IP thrughput (i.e. gdput thrugh the OM aggregate link.
