Impacts are summarized within the additinal supprting dcuments pertaining t AT&T s Big Wins. The missin and lng-term targets are as fllws: Adptin f SDN architecture and principles fr Wireless Netwrks. Identificatin f and executin f different use cases. Allwing nn-prprietary pen surce SDN cntrller (e.g. ECOMP/ s ODL-based SDN-C, dubbed SDN-R fr RF Technlgies) t manage multi-vendr wireless transprt netwrks and crdinate them with ther dmains and layers f the netwrk, e.g. RAN, Cre, OTN; multi-layer and multi-dmain hierarchical SDN slely based n pen surce mdels and pen interfaces. Definitin and standardizatin f pen interfaces and pen surce infrmatin mdels Integratin f infrmatin mdels int the pen surce ecsystem. Open standardized interfaces supprt cnnecting multi-vendr devices t an pen surce SDN Cntrller and the develpment f independent third-party applicatins netwrk prgramming (NFV)). The peratrs/service prvides d nt differentiate by the functinality, which is prvided by the cntrller itself, but by the applicatins. The benefits f the SDN-based pen standardized platfrm are as fllws: Vendr-specific element management systems can eliminated and replaced by a unified/universal element management system that leverages pen standardized SuthBund Interfaces SBIs. The plethra f tls fr netwrk planning and peratins supprt may be cnverged n a single platfrm, i.e., ECOMP/, with cmparable functinality delivered by seamlessly integrated netwrk applicatins. IMPACT = Significant (measurable) reductin in the cmplexity f the verall netwrk management slutin; significant (measurable) cst reductin and time-savings. Decupling the functins frm the device t centralized cntrller reduces the duratin and csts f certificatin and integratin prcesses - a new functin is cnfigured and tested just nce. 1.1 SDN-based pen standardized architecture The verall SDN architecture is illustrated in Figure 1 belw. The architecture identifies the main bjects which are target f implementatin and subsequent verificatin within PCs: ECOMP/ SDN cntrller (OpenDaylight) Vendr-specific/vendr-develped s that translate frm prprietary CLI/MIB t pen Netcnf/YANG and vice versa Netcnf suthbund interface and the nrthbund applicatins

The vendr-specific is a piece f sftware-per-device, integrated inside r running utside n a server r clud, that translates standard Netcnf/YANG int the device-specific prprietary language (SNMP) and vice-versa (the firmware inside s is nt mdified). The Netcnf cnfiguratin & cntrl prtcl manipulates the YANG cnfiguratin and state data that are aut-generated frm the generic UML Infrmatin Mdel f a wireless netwrk device. OpenYuma (written in C) has been chsen as the Netcnf server/client t be the basis f the. It can easily becme part f the firmware f the wireless devices later n. There are a few equipment vendrs, hwever, that have elected t implement Cisc s CnfD, riginally frm Tail-f Systems. 2 Overview f Prfs f Cncept & Impacts A Prf f Cncept is executed rughly every half a year t demnstrate prgress being made in develpment and t verify the functinality and cmpleteness f enhancements implemented in a multi-vendr wireless netwrk using real netwrk devices (PNFs). The results and cnclusins f PCs are published in the frm f ONF Technical Recmmendatins (TR) and White Papers. The fllwing table summarizes key cmpnents used during PCs such as versin f SDN cntrller, ONF CreMdel and SBI prtcl.

OpenFlw prtcl was used at Sutbund Interface (SBI) while ONOS was used as SDN cntrller. The use cases supprted by the fllwing applicatins were demnstrated: Capacity-Driven Air Interface - switching n/ff ne plarizatin f the micrwave link in dependence n the traffic demand t efficiently ptimize wireless resurces fr a mre energy efficient peratin f the transprt netwrk. Flw-based Shaping - illustrating inter-dmain interactin between micrwave devices and ruters by activating plicing at the ruter in case f packet lss at the micrwave device due t the weather changing cnditins 2.2 PC 2 The 2 nd PC was perfrmed in Munich, Germany in April 2016 and hsted by Telefónica Germany. In cntrast t 1 st PC, Netcnf/YANG prtcl was used at SBI while OpenDaylight (ODL) was used as SDN cntrller. The initial simplified MW Infrmatin Mdel (reduced set f attributes) was develped and implemented. The use cases supprted by the fllwing applicatins fcusing mainly n the management and cnfiguratin f a multi-vendr wireless transprt netwrk were demnstrated: Detectin and cnfiguratin f new wireless devices Detectin and peratr-driven crrectin f discrepancies between actual and planned netwrk cnfiguratin Detectin and visualizatin f the cnfigured transprt netwrk Detectin and visualizatin f the currently effective transprt netwrk Receiving, displaying and string f netwrk-related alarms and events 2.3 PC 3 The 3 rd PC was perfrmed in New Jersey, USA in Octber 2016 and hsted by AT&T in cperatin with WINLAB (Wireless Infrmatin Netwrk Labratry) at Rutgers University. The cmplete MW/mmW Infrmatin Mdel (including all the attributes) was develped and implemented. The use cases supprted by the fllwing applicatins were demnstrated: The abve mentined applicatins frm 2nd PC Spectrum management cmparisn f cnfigured and planned frequencies and reallcatin in case f mismatch Clsed-lp autmatin ( zer-tuch deplyment and maintenance ) a basic respnse t external/internal/time triggers 2.4 PC 4 The 4 th PC was perfrmed in Bnn, Germany in June 2017 and hsted by Deutsche Telekm. The existing Clud envirnment was used fr the first time t run ODL SDN cntrller, applicatins and vendr-specific s.

In additin t sme basic Ethernet capabilities, the pssibility t manage a synchrnizatin netwrk via SDN apprach in rder t distribute the frequency & phase/time infrmatin using PTP (IEEE 1588v2) [IEEE1588v2] was demnstrated. Results and cnclusins were reprted in ONF White paper [WP_4PC]. All the cde (applicatins) develped during the PC are stred and publicly available as pen surce at CENTENNIAL GitHUB [CENTEN]. 3 Overview f first <-> ONF integrated PC The first jint <-> ONF PC is being hsted by AT&T in cperatin with WINLAB (Wireless Infrmatin Netwrk Labratry) at Rutgers University in New Jersey frm Mnday, 27th f Nvember, 2017 t Friday, 1st f December, The ONF piece f this PC is fcused n the wireless transprt dmain, while the piece is fcusing n mre cmplex multi-dmain multi-technlgy rchestratin.
