5 1.0 Safety Electrical installatin f the FLEX series PV mdules and system shall be cnducted by a qualified slar integratr and/r electrical prfessinal. Mechanical installatin f the FLEX series PV mdules shall be perfrmed by qualified slar integratr and/r rfing prfessinal. FLEX series PV mdules generate pwer whenever expsed t light. Fllw applicable NEC guidelines, avid cntact with electrically active parts and be sure t islate live circuits befre tempting t make r break any cnnectins. D nt artificially cncentrate sunlight n these mdules. Always use prper electrical safety practices, insulated tls and prtective equipment when making electrical cnnectins t avid electric shck. Adhere t all applicable natinal and reginal cdes (fire, electrical, building). Tls and wrking cnditins must be dry. D nt install r handle mdules when they are wet r in perids f high wind. Never cnnect r discnnect the FLEX mdule frm the inverter r cmbiner bx while the inverter is cnnected t the main grid. PV mdules prduce DC current when expsed t light, when installing FLEX mdules during day time, fully cver the frnt f the mdules with an paque (nn-transparent) tarp during installatin. Ensure all cable cnnectins, and cnnectrs, are fully seated and secured (n gaps between cntacts) and in gd cnditin (n splitting, n crrsin, nr ther cntaminatins). 6 2.0 Intrductin In intrducing the FLEX mdules, MiaSlé is a pineer and leading manufacturer f cpper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin-film phtvltaic slar mdules. The new CIGS based MiaSlé FLEX mdules are flexible and lightweight. The FLEX N Series PV mdules are fr Building Integrated PV (BIPV) installatins n steep slpe standing seam metal cmmercial and residential rf systems. The FLEX mdules cme with a full cverage factry-applied PVA 600BT peel-and-stick self-adhesive backing. 7 2.1 Glssary f Terms FLEX Refers t the MiaSlé FLEX-02N & 02NS series mdules. PVA 600BT Refers t the ADCO HeliBnd PVA 600BT bnding self-adhesive. WMS The Wire Management System is a rf munted cvered tray r cnduit system that prtects the string and hmerun wire cnductrs. 11 3.0 Handling & Shipping f Mdules 3.1 Handling The fllwing general guidelines are t be fllwed t ensure a safe and prper installatin including handling and strage f the FLEX mdule. Failure t fllw these instructins may result in bdily injury, damage t the FLEX mdule, r damage t prperty. Failure t cmply with these instructins will invalidate the MiaSlé Limited Warranty fr FLEX mdules. If there are any questins, please cntact sales@miasle.cm. D nt use the J-Bx r cnnecting cables as handles t lift r carry the FLEX mdules. Use cautin when handling FLEX mdules in windy cnditins n the rf t avid persnal injury and ptential damage t the FLEX mdule. While wrking n the rf use all necessary barriers, safety equipment, and tethers as required by OSHA r lcal guidelines. FLEX mdules have a smth tp surface. Use cautin when water is n tp f the surface as mdules will lse tractin. D nt stand r step n FLEX mdules. Use prtective ftwear (nn-penetrating) t avid damaging r scratching the mdules. D nt crease r bend the FLEX mdules ver sharp edges. D nt apply paint, slvents r adhesives t the tp surface f the FLEX mdules. 12 3.2 Prduct Strage The FLEX mdule shuld be stred in a climate-cntrlled warehuse envirnment until needed in the field: The FLEX mdules shuld be kept in a dry, clean warehuse-type facility prir t installatin, with ambient temperatures at r belw 24 C (75 F). FLEX mdules with factry applied ADCO PVA 600BT adhesive have a minimum shelf life f ne year when stred at r belw 24 C (75 F) (as per ADCO 600BT datasheet). Onsite the FLEX mdules shuld be stred in a clsed strage cntainer and nt be expsed t excessive misture, heat r cld. On the rf, place FLEX mdules n pallets and fully prtect frm expsure t misture and direct sunlight. Leave prtective packaging in place until FLEX mdules are ready t be installed. D nt stre FLEX mdules n the rf r utdrs vernight. 3.3 Shipping Crate The FLEX mdules are shipped in cardbard crates with a wden base (pallet) fr frklift handling. There are 15 FLEX mdules per crate and 10 crates per pallet. Stre in riginal crates riented flat and nt n its edge. D nt stand r walk n FLEX mdule crates. D nt use bx cutters / knifes t cut the straps r wraps use cutting pliers. Fr shipping r strage, n mre than ne fully-laded pallet shuld be stacked ne n tp f the ther. 14 4.0 FLEX Applicatin Guidelines The bnding / installatin guidelines belw are prvided as an utline nly and are meant fr clean, dry standing seam metal rf surfaces. Fllw these guidelines t maintain the reliability and warranty f the FLEX mdules and the rf. Reapplying FLEX mdules that were previusly bnded t a rfing surface will vid the warranty f the mdules. 4.1 Envirnmental Cnsideratins FLEX mdules are designed and tested t withstand strenuus envirnmental cnditins fr mre than 25 years. In additin, FLEX mdules are UL and IEC certified fr safety and perfrmance-cde cmpliant fr glbal markets. FLEX mdules shuld be installed in lcatins that meet the fllwing requirements: FLEX mdules must nt be immersed in water r expsed t cntinuus water streams r flws (e.g., frm funtains, sprinklers). FLEX mdules shuld nt be expsed t extremely crrsive chemicals r flammable vaprs and gases (e.g., emissins frm manufacturing plants r ther surces). FLEX mdules must nt be munted at a site where it may be subject t direct cntact with salt water. Installed lcatin shuld be planned t avid areas where wind uplift is at its maximum such as crners r rf edges. Refer t ASCE 07. The ambient temperature at the time f installatin shuld be between 4 C - 49 C (40 F F). If the temperature is higher than 49 C (120 F) the plymer film release liner may be difficult t remve frm the PVA 600BT (peel-and-stick adhesive) and the metal rf panel surface may exceed the adhesive applicatin temperature. In htter climates, the FLEX mdules shuld be stred in a shaded area prir t installatin t prevent excessive heating f the adhesive. If the temperature is lwer than 4 C (40 F) the adhesive may nt adhere prperly t the rfing surface. 4.2 Rfing Cnsideratins Mdule Pre-Integratin and On-Site Attachment Pre-Integratin Factry laminated t the metal rf panel by the metal rf system manufacturer and delivered t the jb site ready t be installed n the rf by the manufacturers apprve cntractr. 15 4.2.2 Rftp Guidelines The FLEX mdule is designed fr installatin n r ver apprved steep slped metal rf systems. Fr applicatins n crrugated and R-panel metal rf systems cntact sales@miasle.cm. On pre-apprved existing metal rfs, the FLEX mdule may be installed n the existing metal rf. Installer may use apprved in field rll-frmed metal rf panels. D nt install the FLEX mdules s that the building r ther structure, r ther systems r cmpnents, exert damaging mechanical r electrical influences n the FLEX mdules. FLEX mdule installatin shuld nt exceed rf system UL and FM fire rating slpe limitatins. FLEX mdules can be installed n rf slpes f 15 t 60 degrees (3/12 t 21/12-rf pitch) measured frm hrizntal. Cntact sales@miasle.cm fr rfs under 3/12. FLEX mdules placement shuld be set back a minimum f 0.9 meters (3 feet) frm the lwer rf perimeter edge. The setback reduces the effect f wind uplift frces at the building perimeter and crners n the slar array. When wrking 1.8 meters (6 feet) r clser t the rf edge, OSHA requires specific fall prtectin actin t cme int effect. The metal rf assembly must meet rf manufacturer s minimum requirements fr direct PV mdule bnding. Rf manufacturer s apprved new metal rf systems are recmmended. Refer t rf manufacturer s recmmendatins and metal rf system limitatins fr direct PV mdule bnding t existing metal rf systems Acceptable Substrates The fllwing metal rf panel materials are acceptable substrates. 1. Aluminum-Zinc cated Steel (20-ga., 22-ga., and 24-ga.) (AZ50, AZ 55, AZ60) Galvalume, Zincalume with r withut PVDF (Kynar 500, Hylar 5000, Valspar Flurpn) catings. 2. FLEX mdules can be installed ver a wide range f different metal rf prfiles by metal rf manufacturers nt listed here. Cntractr shall check with the rf manufacturer and verify FLEX is acceptable and will nt affect the manufacturer s warranty. 4.3 Orientatin and Shading It is imprtant t avid full r partial shading frm rftp equipment, structural elements f a building and nearby trees, ples, pwer lines r ther nearby buildings t minimize the impact n the pwer prductin f the MiaSlé FLEX series slar array. An n-site analysis using a Slar Pathfinder r ther shading analysis tl can prvide the slar designer valuable infrmatin n the impact f shading n slar pwer prductin. MiaSlé recmmends a shading analysis t be cmpleted prir t installatin. FLEX mdules prtect themselves frm shade-prducing ht spts that may damage ther mdules, but the electrical perfrmance f any PV mdule is seriusly degraded due t shading bstructins Metal Rf Shade Cnsideratins Verify metal panel standing seams height will nt shade PV mdules. Set back FLEX mdules frm mid rf wire management and peak ridge caps t avid partial shading during the day. D nt install J-Bx behind Z-Clsure. Install FLEX mdules a minimum f 91.4 cm (3 feet) frm standard rf curbs, skylights, gutters and rf penetratins. Analyze shade and shadws arund higher rftp units such as HVAC and mechanical equipment befre placing the FLEX mdules. 17 4.4 Rf Substrate Cnditin and Installatin Preparatin Fllwing the FLEX mdule and rf system manufacturer s directins fr rf surface preparatin and installatin is critical fr FLEX mdule-t-rf substrate bnding and lng-term system perfrmance. Installer s failure t fllw manufacturer s recmmended rf surface preparatin directins and FLEX mdule installatin prcedures may vid MiaSlé FLEX mdule and the rf system s warranty. FLEX mdules with a self-adhesive PVA 600BT backing are designed t bnd directly t a metal rf system apprved by the rf system manufacturer fr direct PV mdule bnding. Deliver metal panel materials and cmpnents in manufacturer s riginal, unpened, undamaged packaging with identificatin labels intact. Stre metal rf panel materials n dry, level, firm, and clean surface using factry prvide fam supprts under the panels. Stack n mre than tw bundles high. Elevate and ventilate t allw air t circulate and misture t escape. If metal panels are stred nsite, avid expsing metal panels with prtective plymer films frm direct expsure t the sun. Remve any factry applied prtective plymer film frm metal panels befre panel cleaning and FLEX mdule installatin. Metal rf panels with bnded FLEX mdules are mechanically attached t the building structure using the same traditinal metal panel anchr panel clips and fasteners supplied by the metal rfing panel manufacturer. Use panel clips t allw fr thermal expansin f the metal panels and lap seams as required by the metal rf manufacturer. Cut and trim metal rf panels prir t cleaning and bnding the FLEX mdules. Installer shuld refer t the rf panel plan fr exact FLEX mdule placement n each metal rf panel t align the FLEX mdule n the metal panel crrectly in relatin t the ridge cap, ridge trim, middle rf seams and fasteners. Metal rf panel surface fr FLEX mdule placement shall be flat and smth. The rfing surface must be cleaned, dry and free f all debris; dust, il, ice, snw r misture will inhibit gd adhesin and limit the installatin lifetime. In rder t achieve the required adhesin, clean the metal rf surface per the rf system manufacturer s current Technical Specificatins where the FLEX mdules will be bnded. New metal rf panels shuld be surface cleaned with IPA 2-prpanl, isprpyl alchl diluted with 10% water fr n mre than 30 minutes prir t bnding f the PVA 600BT adhesive backed part. Use a clean lint-free clth r dispsable lint free wipe fr cleaning. Allw the rf t dry cmpletely _2, (1/29/2016) 16

18 If new rf panels have been stred utdrs fr mre than a week, clean the metal panels with water and a mild detergent with a pwer washer prir t cleaning with IPA 2-prpanl, isprpyl alchl. 4.5 Best Practices fr FLEX n Metal Rfing Ideally PV mdules in each string shuld have the same slar rientatin and slar angle t avid mismatch and shading issues. Installer shuld perfrm a slar resurce survey n the site (cmprising; sun path determinatin, shade percentage analysis, etc ). The FLEX mdules are bnded t metal rf panels with a minimum panel width f mm (16 ) with a vertical standing seam up t 38.1mm (1.5 ) high. Wider metal panels (45.7 cm, 50.8 cm, and 60.9 cm ) (18, 20, and 24 respectively) may have a vertical standing seam up t 63.5 mm (2.5 ) high depending n the metal panel width t reduce slar shading. The metal rf panel must be flat, with n panel stiffener ribs, pencil beading, decrative stripling r embssed textured surfaces cmmnly used t reduce metal panel il canning. If yur prfile cntains these, please cntact sales@miasle.cm fr specific rf type applicatin apprval. Install FLEX mdules clse t the ridge cap (Figure 6), withut shading the FLEX mdule. D nt place J-Bx behind Z-Clsure. D nt place FLEX mdules acrss existing metal rf lap seams. On new rfs, plan ut panel length and mid rf lap seams t avid seam cverage by the FLEX mdules. 19 Installer must prvide FLEX mdule spacing (152.4 mm (6 ) minimum) fr installatin f a wire management system between the ends f tw FLEX mdules n mid-rf wiring runs, where the J-Bx and wire leads are lcated (Figure 7). Always use the apprpriate MC4 cable remval tls when discnnecting mdule. Failure t d s will likely result in damage t the cable, cnnectr r mdule. All wiring must meet relevant cdes, guidelines, and regulatins, and perfrmed by a qualified installer. Please refer t the Natinal Electric Cde (NEC) fr guidance related t all wiring assciated with the phtvltaic system in the U.S.A.. Wiring must be cpper-nly with a minimum diameter 1.62 mm (14 AWG), having up t 52 strands, and rated fr a minimum f 90 C in accrdance with all lcal cdes, guidelines, and regulatins. Use cnductr wire type rated PV Wire r USE-2/RHW-2 at a minimum. Fr installatins having a maximum system vltage f 1000V (IEC nly), the cnnectrs used must be rated fr 1000V. Under nrmal cnditins a phtvltaic mdule is likely t experience cnditins that prduce mre current and/r vltage than reprted at standard test cnditins (such as very cld weather r clud enhancement ). Hwever, the metal rf panel that the FLEX mdules are bnded t shuld be grunded. NEC Sectin requires that systems with FLEX mdules n the rf f a building have grund fault prtectin equipment. Grunding f the standing seam metal panels t which the FLEX mdules have been bnded can use UL listed grunding clamps. The grund clamp can be fastened t the metal rfing pan seams with a stainless steel machine screw, a star lck washer and nuts. Grunding f metal parts, panels and cnduit where the FLEX mdule r PV surce wire are passing under r ver (in clse prximity r therwise cme in cntact with), can be accmplished with the use f grunding clamps as described abve, r by ther listed methds meeting NEC requirements. Install FLEX mdule back frm the Ridge Cap t avid shading. DO NOT INSTALL THE J-BOX BEHIND THE Z-CLOSURE. THIS WILL SHADE THE FLEX MODULE SOLAR ACTIVE AREA AND AFFECT POWER OUTPUT. DO NOT PLACE A FASTENER THROUGH THE FLEX MODULE THIS WILL VOID THE MODULE WARRANTY. DRILL A HOLE SIZED THROUGH THE SHEETMETAL Z-CLOSURE TO ALLOW THE CONDUCTOR CABLES INTO THE RIDGE CAP AREA TO BE USED AS A WIRE CHASE. 31 5.0 Cntractr and Warranty 5.1 Installatin Cntractr Respnsibilities Cntractr shall install the FLEX mdules n the rf system in accrdance with rf system manufacturer s written PV installatin specificatins and requirements t maintain an existing rf warranty r t meet their requirements fr a rf warranty n new rf systems. Cntractr, befre installing mdules, shall cntact the apprpriate lcal jurisdictin t btain any required building permits and t determine any installatin and inspectin requirements that apply t the installatin site. This includes any lcal jurisdictin requirements relative t applicable cdes. Cntractr shall determine if the cnstructin r structure (rf, facade, supprt, etc.) where the FLEX mdules are being installed can physically supprt the installatin. Fllwing rfing, electrical, and cnstructin safety practices will assure the installatin will be carried ut withut injury r incident. Take special precautins if there is precipitatin r high wind present at the site. 5.2 Pre-Prject Infrmatin Frm and Warranty Submittal MiaSlé requires the MiaSlé Prject Ntificatin Frm (PNF) t be cmpleted and submitted t MiaSlé Technical Department alng with the rf plan shwing the FLEX mdules and balance f system cmpnents design and lcatins fr review prir t shipping the FLEX mdules fr the prject. Cntractr shall prvide scaled rf plans shwing all lcatin, layut and dimensins f metal rf panels n rf structure, mid rf panel seam lcatin, perimeter rf details, gutters, skylights, hatches, HVAC and mechanical equipment, penthuses, pipes, stacks and cnduit runs and shw exact placement f FLEX mdule layut n the rf. FLEX mdules shuld be gruped tgether based n string sizing, DC cmbiner lcatin, and PV wire runs. Rf plans shall: Identify and number all PV string runs. Shw rf slpe. Shw rf tp and interir building lcatin f all balance-f-system cmpnents, including hme runs, discnnects, fuse bxes, cmbiner bxes and inverters. Cntractr shall cmply with all lcal cde requirements t btain a permit fr the prject. MiaSlé Technical Department shall review the submitted dcuments, prvide technical feedback and assign the prject a MiaSlé Prject Tracking Number and will returned an apprved cpy f the submitted frm t the Cntractr Warranty Submittal Infrmatin Upn cmpletin f the prject, Cntractr shall submit a cmpleted Request fr Warranty (RFW) and a cpy f the As-built Rf Plan t MiaSlé technical Department. Once MiaSlé has reviewed RFW and as-built rf plan, if the PV installatin meets MiaSlé requirements fr a warranty, a prject warranty will be issued. MiaSlé may require a prject inspectin f the Cntractr s FLEX installatin by MiaSlé technical staff prir t issuing a prject warranty. 6.0 Maintenance and Cleaning Keeping the FLEX mdules clean and unsiled is critical t achieve maximum pwer prductin and fr imprving the return n investment (ROI) fr the system. While rain will clean ff dust and light siling, it is critical t inspect and clean the FLEX mdules at least twice a year. In high siling areas such as the desert, urban, r in rural agriculture, the FLEX mdules may require mre frequent cleaning. Observe all rf tp safety and OSHA rules. Discnnect the utility and/r battery surces and islate the utput f the mdules. Use cautin when cleaning FLEX mdules, as the cmbinatin f water and electricity may present a shck hazard. Clean any FLEX mdules that are particularly dirty befre perfrming electrical checks. Excessive dirt, debris, r film n the FLEX mdules will limit perfrmance and create false test results. Verify that all FLEX mdules are lcated in areas that have minimal shading. Verify that all FLEX mdules are lcated in areas that are nt subject t water pnding.
