1 Residential Design Guidelines fr Marley Park 178 Appendix M Trellis Type Shade Structure Design Guide Trellis Type Shade Structures: Trellis Type Shade Structures are typically cnstructed with pen trellis members and beams that allw partial filtering f light. These structures are cmmnly cnstructed with Alumawd r ther durable lw maintenance materials. Trellis type shade structures and ramadas are prhibited in frnt yards, but may be permitted in side curtyards, versized side yards, and in rear yards, if such structures are cnsistent with the requirements f the Design Guidelines and are apprved by the DRC. Setbacks: Attached Shade Structures that are physically attached t the main Residence must meet the setback criteria fr the main Residence, as utlined in Sectin 3 f these Guidelines. Setbacks vary fr each parcel. These setbacks are measured frm the prperty line t the exterir face f the structural psts r clumns that supprt the Shade Structure. Detached Shade Structures must meet the setback criteria fr an "Accessry Structure as utlined in Sectin 3 f these Guidelines. Setbacks vary fr each parcel. Sme setbacks are measured frm the prperty line; whereas ther setbacks are measured frm the exterir walls f the existing hme. Detached Shade Structures must be lcated a minimum f 10' 0" away frm the walls r structure line f the main Residence. These setbacks are measured t the exterir face f the structural psts r clumns that supprt the Shade Structure. Trellis members r verhangs may prject int a setback up t but nt exceeding 2' 0". N Shade Structure may be physically attached t a Yard Wall r fence. Height: The maximum allwed height fr an attached Trellis Type Shade Structure shall nt be higher than ten feet (10' 0") abve the primary finished flr elevatin r the lwest eave line f the existing Residence (whichever is the lwer f the tw heights). The maximum allwed height fr a detached Trellis Type Shade Structure is ten feet (10' 0") abve the primary finished flr elevatin f the Residence. Style, Shape and Character: The style, shape and character f the Shade Structure must match the style, shape, gemetry and character f the Residence. The shape, frm and gemetry f a Shade Structure shall be "square" r "rectangular" in shape. Curved shapes, undulating frms, runded crners, angled shapes, dd shapes, and dd gemetry are nt allwed. Materials: In general, cnstructin materials, clrs, finishes, architectural details and architectural style used fr a Shade Structure must match the existing Residence. Shade structures must be cnstructed f quality, durable and lw maintenance materials. AlumaWd, EliteWd, r similar types f aluminum trellis style Shade Structures that resemble wd are generally acceptable. The use f wd like aluminum prducts is strngly preferred ver the use f real wd.
2 Residential Design Guidelines fr Marley Park 179 Natural wd that is expsed is discuraged as a building material fr Shade Structures. Expsed wd des nt perfrm well in the desert envirnment and can ften fade, crack, twist, warp, sag, and deterirate very quickly. If an Owner elects t use expsed natural wd t cnstruct a Trellis Type Shade Structure, the fllwing additinal criteria will apply: Wd psts shall be 8" x 8" nminal minimum. Wd beams shall be 4x nminal minimum. Wd jints r wd trellis members shall be 3x nminal minimum. Expsed 2x natural wd is nt allwed, unless specifically apprved by the DRC. In general, expsed 2x natural wd materials d nt perfrm well in the desert envirnment. Structural fasteners shall be cncealed r small, such as nails, screws and lag blts. N expsed structural hangers, structural straps, r structural clips are allwed. A Shade Structure that is cnstructed f expsed wd shall be maintained at all times in an attractive appearance. The Owner must maintain all wd members t be true, plumb, hrizntal, vertical and straight. Wd shade structures that have deterirated r becme unsightly must be remved r repaired immediately. Tent style shade structures, tensile fabric structures, retractable hrizntal fabric panels, and shade sails, as well as ther shade structures cnstructed f fabric; fabric and metal; and/r fabric panels will nt be allwed, unless therwise apprved by the DRC. Crrugated metal, crrugated fiberglass, thin wd lattice, thin plastic lattice, and tarps are nt allwed as materials that are part f a Shade Structure. Clrs: The clrs f a Shade Structure shall match and/r cmpliment the clrs f the existing hme. Shade Structures that are cnstructed f wd r Alumawd shall match the clr f the existing wd trim n the main Residence. Typically, the clr f a Shade Structure shall match the clr f the wd fascia n the existing hme. Details: Expsed wd psts shall be a minimum f 8" x 8" in size (nminal). Alumawd psts shall be a minimum f 6½" x 7" (actual). A standard Alumawd pst is built up with tw (2) 2x8 cmpnents n each side f a 3x3 pst cmpnent in the center. Rund clumns shall be a minimum f 12" diameter (actual). Psts clad in stucc, stne r masnry shall be a minimum f 16" x 16". Stucc shall match the texture f the stucc n the existing hme. Stne shall match the stne n the existing hme. The "end cuts" f rafters and beams shall be apprpriate t the authentic architectural style f the hme. Fr example, Spanish architectural styles can use "crbel" r "scrll" end cuts; whereas mst f the ther architectural styles will use "miter" beveled" r "chamfer" end cuts. All Trellis Type Shade Structures shall be permanently affixed t the grund. Ntes: Applicatins fr a Shade Structure shall be submitted t the DRC at the ffices f the Assciatin fr review and apprval PRIOR t cnstructin. Incmplete applicatins will nt be reviewed. Submittal f an incmplete applicatin can significantly lengthen the amunt f time necessary t btain an apprval frm the DRC. Applicants shuld be sure t prvide all f the infrmatin listed n the Submittal Checklist.

5 Residential Design Guidelines fr Marley Park 182 Submittal Requirements Checklist fr Trellis Type Shade Structure Applicatins: Applicatins fr the use f Trellis Type Shade Structure must be submitted t the DRC fr review and apprval PRIOR t any installatin. Cnstructin r installatin may nt cmmence until such apprval is granted in writing by the DRC. An Applicatin t add a Shade Structure t an existing hme shall include the fllwing items. Incmplete applicatins will nt be accepted r reviewed. Applicatin Frm with all infrmatin cmpleted. Available n line at Or at the Offices f the Marley Park Cmmunity Assciatin Plans, Drawings and Specificatins All submittals shall prvide a clear and cmplete explanatin f the lcatin and appearance f the prpsed Shade Structure. The submittal must include the infrmatin nted belw: Site Plan shwing the dimensin frm the exterir face f the psts r clumns that supprt the Shade Structure t all prperty lines. (if necessary, site infrmatin can be btained frm the aerial maps n the Maricpa Cunty Assessr s website) If detached, shw the dimensin frm the exterir face f the psts r clumns that supprt the Shade Structure t the face f the existing hme. Specify the dimensins f height, width and length f the verall Shade Structure. Specify the dimensins f the clumns, psts, beams, rafters and trellis members. (i.e. 8x8, 4x10, 3x8, 2x2, etc) Specify all materials. (i.e. Alumawd, wd, stucc, etc.) Specify the end cap details. (i.e. crbel, chamfer, miter, etc.) Specify the clr f the shade structure and prvide samples r clr chips. Prvide phtgraphs, catalg infrmatin, cut sheets, r ther descriptins that clearly explain the appearance f the Shade Structure. Phtgraphs Pht f the entire frnt f the huse. Pht f the entire rear r side f the huse, depending n the lcatin f the prpsed Shade Structure. Phts f the general lcatin f the prpsed Shade Structure. Each individual pht shall be printed in clr n an 8½ x 11 sheet. Phts shall be legible and f a reasnable quality. When taking phts, avid phts that are taken directly int the sunlight r phts that are very dark and shaded. Als avid phts in which the hme is blcked by large trees. At times, multiple phts taken at different vantage pints may be necessary t fully explain the hme. All phts shall include the name f the prperty wner; the prperty address; and any ther descriptins r ntes t further explain the phtgraph. Cnstructin may nt cmmence until the applicatin has been apprved in writing by the DRC.
