This guide is fr infrmatin purpses and shuld nt be miscnstrued as a full and cmplete interpretatin f the Building Cde.

2 Residential Deck Permit Submissin List Zning permits are required fr all decks/patis, regardless f size/material Building permits required if decking is 30 abve grade. Uncvered decks that are less then 30 abve grade d nt require building permits. Unifrm Cnstructin Cde (UCC) (8) Cmplete building permit applicatin Sectins I thru IV, sign and date applicatin. Prvide tw cpies f plans. Prvide tw cpies f the plt plan with dimensins t prperty lines/easements, shw all impervius cverage. (See sample plt plan attached) Prvide ne f the fllwing relating t wrkers cmpensatin: 1. Prf f Wrker s Cmpensatin cverage frm the general cntractr, cntaining an riginal signature frm an authrized representative f the insurance cmpany, and listing the Twnship f Derry, 600 Clearwater Rad, Hershey, PA 17033, as the certificate hlder. 2. If the cntractr has n emplyees r meets the exceptin frm wrker s cmpensatin, a signed and ntarized exemptin frm is required. Frms are available at Cmmunity Develpment Office. 3. N wrker s cmpensatin cverage r exemptin frm is required if the hmewner is ding their wn wrk r acting as their wn general cntractr. Cde Requirements Prvide height abve grade, measured frm decking t average grade Fting depth belw grade and fting size Pst size, pst spacing, attachment t ftings. See figure 1.

7 If deck is at an abve grund pl, the gate must meet the requirements f Appendix G f the Internatinal Residential Cde (IRC). Stair width, rise/run, guardrail height, handrail size and height. See Figure 8 and attached handrail infrmatin. Girders supprting deck jists shall nt be supprted n deck ledgers r band jist, Sectin f the 2009 IRC. Deck lateral lad cnnectin shall be permitted, see Figure 6, r by an apprved equivalent methd. Hld dwn tensin devices shall be installed in nt less than tw lcatins per deck, and each device shall have an allwable stress design capacity f nt less than 1500 punds, see Table If hld dwn device is attached t an engineered flr jist, please prvide engineered flr jist specs fr hld dwn tensin device attachment t jist. See Figure 6. Clumns shall be restrained t prevent lateral displacement at the bttm end, Sectin f the 2009 IRC. Mechanical anchr f pst t cncrete fting required. See Figure 1. Table f the 2009 IRC, Guardrails and handrails shall be capable f supprting a cncentrated lad f 200 punds per square ft, applied in any directin at any pint alng the tp.
