General articles include shrt reviews f general interest, reprts f recent advances in a particular area f science, current events f interest t researchers and science educatrs, etc. Research papers f sufficiently brad scpe t be f interest t mst Academy members are als cnsidered. Articles f particular interest in Mississippi are especially encuraged. Research papers are reprts f riginal research. Submissin f a manuscript implies that the paper has nt been published and is currently at the time f submissin being cnsidered fr publicatin elsewhere. At least ne f the authrs must be a member f the Academy, and all authrs are encuraged t jin. Manuscripts. Submit the manuscript electrnically t the Mississippi Academy f Sciences under yur prfile in the member lcatin f the website. Please als prvide a cver letter t the Editr f the Jurnal. The cver letter shuld authrize publicatin: give the full names, cntact infrmatin, fr all authrs; and indicate t whm the prfs and crrespndence shuld be sent. Please ntify the Editr n any changes prir t publicatin. Manuscripts must adhere t the fllwing frmat: One inch margins n 8.5 x 11 inch paper; Text shuld be left-justified using twelve pint type; Duble spaced thrughut, including the title and abstract; Arabic numerals shuld be used in preference t wrds when the number designates anything that can be cunted r measured (7 samples, 43 species) with 2 exceptins: T begin a sentence (Twenty-ne species were fund in ) When 2 numeric expressins are adjacent in a sentence. The number easiest t express in wrds shuld be spelled ut and the ther left in numeric frm (The sectins were divided int eight 4- acre plts.). Measurements and physical symbls r units shall fllw the Internatinal System f Units (SI Le Système internatinal d unités) with metric units stated first, ptinally fllwed by United States units in parentheses. E.g.: xx grams (xx unces); and Avid persnal prnuns.

2 Frmat Abstract. In 250 r fewer wrds summarize any new methds r prcedures critical t the results f the study and state the results and cnclusins. Intrductin. Describe the knwledge and literature that gave rise t the questin examined by, r the hypthesis psed fr the research. Materials and methds. This sectin shuld describe the research design, the methds and materials used in the research (subjects, their selectin, equipment, labratry r field prcedures), and hw the findings were analyzed. Results. The text f the results shuld be a descriptive narrative f the main findings, f the reprted study. This sectin shuld nt list tabulated data in text frm. Reference t tables and figures included in this sectin shuld be made parenthetically in the text. Discussin. In this sectin cmpare and cntrast the data cllected in the study with that previusly reprted in the literature. Unless there are specific reasns t cmbine the tw, as explained by the authr in the letter f transmittal, Results and Discussin shuld be tw separate sectins. Acknwledgments. Clleagues and/r surces f financial supprt t whm thanks are due fr assistance rendered in cmpletin f the research r preparatin f the manuscript shuld be recgnized in this sectin rather than in the bdy f the text. Literature cited. List references alphabetically. Cite references in the text by authr and year f publicatin (e.g., Smith, 1975; Black and Benghuzzi, 2011; Smith et al., 2010; Smith, 2011a, 2011b). Tables. Tables must be typed duble spaced, ne table t a page, numbered cnsecutively, and placed at the end f the manuscript. Since tables must be individually typeset, cnslidatin f data int the smallest number f tables is encuraged. A hrizntal duble underline shuld be made beneath the title f the table, and single underlines shuld be made the width f the table belw the clumn headings and at the bttm f the table. D nt use vertical lines, and d nt place hrizntal lines in the interir f the table. Use ftntes, t clarify pssible questins within the table, shuld be nted by asterisks, daggers, r ther symbls t avid cnfusin with numerical data. Tables shuld be referred t parenthetically in the text, fr example (Table 1). Figures and illustratins. Figures may be phtgraphs, cmputer -generated drawings, r graphs and shuld be placed at the end f the manuscript and referenced in the apprpriate place.. All illustratins

4 are referred t as Figures and must be numbered cnsecutively. Illustratins ther than thse generated by the authr(s) must include permissin fr use and credit t the riginatr. Each figure must have a cmplete legend that is typed, duble-spaced, n a separate sheet which precedes the figures in the manuscript. Figures shuld be referred t parenthetically in the text, fr example (Fig. 1). Ftntes. Text ftntes shuld nt be used with the fllwing exceptins: Added t the title t state the dates f manuscript submissin and revisin. A ftnte t name(s) f authr(s) may be used t indicate present address different frm that at which the research was dne, r t indicate the authr t whm inquiries shuld be directed. Ftntes t tables are permissible, and are encuraged t prmte clarity. Attentin t the abve instructins will minimize the need fr revisin and editrial crrectin, and will shrten the time frm submissin t publicatin.
