Cmplete infrmatin is available in the cdes and rdinances adpted by the city. Sme infrmatin indicated belw may nt pertain t all prjects. Assuring that this infrmatin is n each set f plans will reduce the time required t btain permits and reduce the number f revisins required t btain a permit. Current adpted cdes can be fund at: Internatinal Building Cde (IBC) Natinal Electrical Cde (NEC) Internatinal Plumbing Cde (IPC) Internatinal Fuel Gas Cde (IFG) Internatinal Mechanical Cde (IMC) Internatinal Fire Cde (IFC) Internatinal Energy Cnservatin Cde (IECC) REQUIRED DOCUMENTS Submit at time f applicatin fr a permit Permit Applicatin and Plans upladed t ur permitting and applicatin prtal: Optinal Land disturbance and/r site develpment permits can be applied separately r altgether with full building permit. Please see the Site and Civil Drawings sectin belw if applicable. Cmpleted Certificate f Occupancy applicatin frm* fr new building and building additins is required. Each new tenant t a space will require issuance f a new Certificate f Occupancy regardless f whether any wrk requiring a permit is perfrmed. Nte: New businesses t Lenexa are required t btain a City f Lenexa Business License prir t starting peratin. *Certificate f Occupancy will be generated autmatically when permit is submitted nline. Fees Cntact a custmer service representative at if yu have fee questins. Plan review fees are required t be paid at the time f submittal. Permit fees are paid at the time f permit issuance after the plans have been apprved.

2 Cntractr Licensing: Prir t issuance f a permit the applicant shall supply the names f the General cntractr and sub-cntractrs fr the prject. The general cntractr and subcntractrs (framing, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, fire prtectin, alarm, and swimming pl) are required t be licensed thrugh Jhnsn Cunty Cntractr s Licensing. License infrmatin is available at Business Licenses: All general cntractrs and sub-cntractrs are required t als have a Lenexa business license prir t issuance f the building permit. The tenant is als required t have a Lenexa Business License prir t perating the business. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PLAN SUBMIITAL Plan size and Scpe f Wrk descriptin Drawings: Plans shall be a minimum f 18 x 24 and a maximum f 24 x 36. A Scpe f Wrk statement shall be cnspicuusly lcated n the plans t clarify the extent f prpsed wrk. In sme cases, it may be helpful t explain wrk that is nt prsed t ensure a clear wrk scpe. The plans are required t be signed, sealed/stamped by a design prfessinal that is licensed in the State f Kansas. Nte: Sealed plans may nt be required fr prjects with a value f less than $10,000 subject t the discretin f the Building and Fire Officials. Cpies f sealed plans are acceptable. If embssed seals are used, they must be shaded t enable identificatin if plans are cpied fr recrd purpses. Site, civil and landscape drawings Title sheet Site layut sheet (including existing vegetatin) Grading plan Strmwater management plan Land disturbance plan (including tree/vegetatin preservatin plan) Land disturbance ntes and details Landscaping plan Landscaping ntes and details General cnstructin details Any ther sheets necessary fr cnstructin f varius cmpnents (i.e. lighting plans, utility plans, plan and prfiles, etc.) Fire flw requirements: If the square ftage f the building is increased. Prvide evidence that the required fire flw requirements remain cmpliant in accrdance with the Appendix in the Internatinal Fire Cde. Fire apparatus maneuverability: If wrk scpe effects existing fire apparatus access. Prvide evidence f effective maneuverability thrugh the prject by illustrating SU-30 verlays thrugh the prject. Prvide verlays in bth directins f travel. Separate site develpment r land disturbance permit (Optinal, if applicable) The Land Disturbance permit is basically the dirt wrk / grading nly (minus any detentin areas). The applicatin fee (due at submissin) fr this permit is $100. The permit fee (due at permit issuance) is $165 per acre fr the prject site. A perfrmance Guaranty (basically mud bnd) will be required in the amunt f $2,500 per acre, runded up. (i.e. 3.1 acres = 4 acres). All ther apprpriate licensing, as necessary fr a permit issuance in Lenexa is required. The Site Develpment permit is essentially everything n the site except fr the building, i.e. this included all strmwater piping (thus the ability t cmplete the detentin basin), curbs, parking lts, walls, etc. The applicatin fee (due at submissin) fr this permit is $150. The permit fee

3 (due at permit issuance) is $165 per acre fr the prject site, with the same perfrmance guaranty, ther paperwrk, etc. Architectural, structural and MEP and fire prtectin drawings Cde summary - the cde data fr the building is required t be n the plans. This shuld include the fllwing minimum infrmatin: Cde editins used as adpted by the City f Lenexa ICC Cdes and NEC Type f cnstructin Occupancy classificatin Area f the tenant space Occupant lad calculatin Fire suppressin (indicate if a suppressin system is prvided thrughut) Fire alarms (indicate if an alarm system is prvided) Level f ADA cmpliance Supplemental infrmatin- these shuld be submitted at permit submittal if available. (Sil reprts, specificatin, cut sheets, structural calculatins, shp drawings, etc.) Life safety / Egress sheet - The drawing shuld illustrate ccupant lads and lcate all exits and illustrate cmpliant egress paths and travel distances. Building elevatins - Prvide elevatin drawings fr any exterir alteratins. Flr plans - Prvide flr plans including dimensins, shw the usage f each space. The intended use fr each rm shuld be clear labeled. Partitin schedule - Clearly identify the different types f partitins with apprpriate labels and details. Identify the cnstructin materials, fire-resistance design ratings and hw walls will terminate at the tp. Label any existing fire-rated assemblies such as thse assciated with rated crridrs, tenant separatins, ccupancy separatins and specific use separatins. Dr/windw schedule - Prvide a dr and windw schedule. Shw dr and frame assembly ratings, dr sizes, hardware and any clsing r lcking infrmatin. If sidelights are prvided, include the type f glazing, size and frame infrmatin. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) cmpliance data If the prject is nt new cnstructin, then prvide written certificatin, sealed and signed by an architect registered in Kansas, indicating an ADA cmpliance audit has been cnducted f the existing facility identifying deficiencies r verifying cmpliance with all ADA Title III Design Guidelines OR prvide a detailed cst analysis indicating cmpliance mdificatins equal t 20% f the verall cst f the prject. If the cst analysis ptin is chsen, the items assciated with the cst analysis and the cst analysis must be nted n the plans. If the space is in full cmpliance, please nte this n the cver sheet f the drawing set. Diagrams frm ADAAG shwing the clearances fr fixtures, turning radius, grab bar lcatins, lavatry clearances, water clsets, drinking funtains, etc., are acceptable. Where latch-side clearance may be an issue n drs, shw dimensins n the plans. Receptin and break rm cunters shall cmply with minimum reach ranges: Sales cunters shall prvide accessibility fr a 36 inch wide accessible space nt mre than 34 inches in height. Break rm cunters shall be a maximum 34 inches in height. Operating cntrls f micrwaves, etc. shall be nt mre than 48 inches abve the flr abve cunters.

4 Prvide a drinking funtain fr wheel chair access cmplying with ANSI/ICC A and 2006 IPC Sectin (cntact the plans analyst in the Building Inspectin Divisin fr ther ptins). Fire-resistance design infrmatin Sprayed fire-resistive material Prvide fire-resistive design infrmatin including thrugh-stp penetratin designs. The lcatin and hurly fire-rating f all fire-rated assemblies. Indicate the UL r ther accredited testing agencies' design number and specificatins fr all fire-rated cnstructin including: design and specificatins fr all thrugh penetratin assemblies where ducts, piping, wiring and cnduit penetrate a fire-rated assembly; and design and specificatins fr all fire rated jint assemblies fr all static and dynamic jints invlving fire rated cnstructin. Mechanical plans Plans shall prvide ntatins describing the scpe f mechanical wrk t be perfrmed. Where changes in use ccur that necessitate different air supply requirements r HVAC units and/r distributin systems are being mdified, sufficient infrmatin is required n the plans t verify cmpliance with the cde prvisins including but nt limited t the fllwing: The lcatin, size and materials used fr all ducts, plenums, vents and piping. Mechanical flr plans indicating the lcatin f all main duct runs. Lcatins and specificatins fr all mechanical equipment including bilers, water heaters, exhaust hds, exhaust fans, chillers and HVAC equipment. Fr any change in use r additin f new mechanical systems, prvide cmplete air balance schedule including the quantities f utside air intrduced int the building, the amunt f air exhaust frm the building and the amunt f air re-circulated. The lcatin f all smke detectrs used t shut dwn the air handling system and the methd used t mnitr the detectrs. Restaurants installing hd and duct systems - Submit manufacturers listing infrmatin fr all pre-manufactured hds. If yu are installing a site-built kitchen hd, prvide drawings and specificatins in accrdance with Chapter 5 f the Internatinal Mechanical Cde. Type I Kitchen Hd Suppressin systems When grease laden vaprs are prduced during cking peratins, a type I kitchen hd with integrated suppressin shall be prvided in accrdance with the Internatinal Fire Cde and the Internatinal Mechanical Cde. Electrical plans

5 Plans shuld include general ntes describing the scpe f the electrical wrk t be perfrmed. Plans shall clearly indicate any new wrk that is being perfrmed. T verify cde cmpliance, infrmatin shall include but nt be limited t the fllwing: The lcatins and types f all exit signs and emergency egress lighting. Cmplete electrical flr and ceiling plans where new lighting systems are being installed. Cmplete panel schedules where new panels are being installed Fr new, replaced r upgraded services and feeders, prvide an electrical riser diagram. The line diagram shuld indicate all types and sizes f cnductrs, cnduits and any ther electrical cmpnents. The grunding methds need t be clearly nted. Fr panel and service upgrades mre than 200 amps prvide a riser diagram sealed by a licensed Kansas engineer. Indicate the lcatin and types f all exit signs and emergency egress lighting. List all electrical materials and wiring methds that are t be used. Plumbing plans Plans shall prvide ntatins describing the scpe f plumbing wrk t be perfrmed. Plans shall clearly shw any new wrk that is being perfrmed. T verify cde cmpliance, infrmatin shall include but nt be limited t the fllwing: Size, slpe, materials and lcatins f all piping. Plumbing riser diagrams fr all sanitary drain, waste and vent piping Plumbing flr plan, include sanitary drains and water lines being installed r replaced. If a grease interceptr is required, the Jhnsn Cunty Envirnmental Department , and the Jhnsn Cunty Wastewater District , must apprve the plans prir t permit release..changes in use r ther mdificatins that significantly alter the quantities r types f discharge t the sanitary sewer system may require a new sewer permit frm Jhnsn Cunty Wastewater District Fire Safety Drawings and Infrmatin Owner infrmatin certificate - Per NFPA13 the dcument explains facility peratins, the cmmdities t be stred and prpsed strage cnfiguratins, including rack plans when applicable. Based upn that infrmatin, a sprinkler design prfessinal shall prvide written cnfirmatin that the density / spacing f the existing / prpsed water based fire prtectin system(s) are adequate fr the prpsed usage, cmmdities and strage height. Fire Alarm Plans - If a fire alarm is t be installed r mdified, in the building, plans shall be submitted. This submittal is acceptable as a deferred submittal but shall be reviewed and apprved prir t installatin. Plans require a seal frm a design prfessinal licensed in the State f Kansas. Dcument the names and cntact infrmatin f the cntractrs perfrming the fire alarm wrk. Prvide evidence f prfessinal qualificatins t satisfy NFPA 72 as well as cunty and City f Lenexa licensing requirements. Fire alarm shp drawings A Scpe f Wrk statement shall be cnspicuusly lcated n the plans t clarify the extent f prpsed wrk. In sme cases, it may be helpful t explain wrk that is nt prsed t ensure a clear wrk scpe. Fire alarm shp drawings shall include t an extent cmmensurate with the extent f wrk being perfrmed, flr plan drawings, riser diagrams, cntrl panel wiring diagrams, pint t pint wiring diagrams, cnduit, cnductr ruting, typical wiring diagrams. Drawings shall be cmplete and in accrdance with Chapter 10 f NFPA 72. Battery calculatins, vltage drp calculatins, and manufacturer cut sheets shall als be prvided t supprt the drawings, if the system is extended.

6 All shp drawings shall be drawn n sheet f unifrm sizes. The minimum acceptable size is 11 x 17. Mre detailed diagrams fr larger wrk scpes will require larger submittals t ensure legibility. Verbatim cmments shall be prvided. Testing and cmmissining dcumentatin Device testing histry Recrd f Cmpletin per NFPA 72 ADA cmpliance will be verified by the Cmmunity Develpment Department while all ther cmpliance will be verified by the Fire Department. Clean Agent fire suppressin system plans If a supplemental, clean agent suppressin system is t be installed, r mdified in the building, plans shall be submitted. This submittal is acceptable as a deferred submittal but shall be reviewed and apprved prir t installatin. Plans require a seal frm a design prfessinal licensed in the State f Kansas. Dcument the names and cntact infrmatin f the cntractrs perfrming the fire alarm wrk. Prvide evidence f prfessinal qualificatins t satisfy NFPA 2001 as well as cunty and City f Lenexa licensing requirements. System shp drawings A Scpe f Wrk statement shall be cnspicuusly lcated n the plans t clarify the extent f prpsed wrk. In sme cases, it may be helpful t explain wrk that is nt prsed t ensure a clear wrk scpe. Wrking plans shall be drawn t an indicated scale and shall illustrate pertinent items fr the design f the system, in accrdance with Chapter 5 f the NFPA System vlume and flw calculatins, as well as manufacturer cut sheets shall be prvided t supprt the drawings. Standpipe systems design (integrated f separate??) Water supply capacity infrmatin shall be current within 12 mnths f the applicatin date.

Plans and specificatins, including thrust prtectin details, in accrdance with NFPA 24. Suppressin system hydraulic calculatins, if mdificatins will negatively affect system perfrmance. Inspectin and testing ntes shall be prvided in accrdance with verbatim cmments. Hydrstatic test and system flush Materials and testing certificates High Pile Strage When high pile strage is mdified r implemented an analysis by a design prfessinal is required. The analysis shall dcument all applicable prtins f Sectin 23 f the Internatinal Fire Cde. Based upn guidance prvided in the Internatinal Fire Cde and NFPA 13, a strage plan shall dcument the cmmdities t be stred and the racking / strage cnfiguratin. A design prfessinal shall validate that the prpsed, r existing suppressin system is r will be adequate t prtect the prpsed cnfiguratin(s). Rack strage plans shall be prvide as a deferred submittal prir t installatin. Applicable requirements frm Chapter 23 f the Internatinal Fire Cde (2306.2) including building access and heat and smke venting shall be addressed. Technical assistance may be requested in accrdance with Sectin f the Internatinal Fire cde. Hazardus Materials Analysis An analysis is required during new cnstructin r tenant imprvements when hazardus materials will be used, stred r handled, r t install r repair any equipment, piping, tanks that use, cntain, stre r dispense hazardus material. Building ccupancy classificatin shall be established / validated as a result f the analysis. A matrix r table shall be prduced t identify the prduct name, the classificatin and the quantity f each prduct. The analysis shall dcument any prducts exceeding maximum allwable quantities established in the Internatinal Fire Cde. Electrnic files cntaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) may be required t supprt the matrix. Technical assistance may be requested in accrdance with Sectin f the Internatinal Fire cde.
