Varius furniture cnfiguratins shw a number f pssibilities fr classrms f the same size t supprt a variety f instructinal delivery types. The diagrams included shuld be used as a reference when evaluating the space needs fr new r renvated classrms. It shuld be nted that the allcated square ftage per student exceeds the guidelines fr space planning in the CPSM. A greater square ftage allcatin fr classrms prvides mre flexibility in instructinal delivery and the ptin fr cllabrative learning.. Any space with a rati greater than 3:4 r 4:3 is unacceptable as a classrm space Windws and Walls Natural light is highly desired in classrms, hwever, the placement f windws shuld be carefully crdinated t avid distracting frm instructin. Classrms shall have blackut shades supplied n all windws Drs It is unacceptable t place classrm drs n the instructinal wall; the ideal place fr drs is n the wall ppsite the instructin wall. It is acceptable t place classrm drs n side walls; hwever, they shuld be n the side f the rm ppsite the lectern Accessibility Classrms shall be universally accessible fr students, staff, and faculty. Fr classrms regardless f size it is preferred that accessible seating be dispersed rather than clustered in a single lcatin. Prvide an accessible space fr students at the tp and bttm f each classrm. Exceptins may be apprved by Clarksn depending n unique circumstances. Lectern placement and furniture must be cmpliant with the current ADA guidelines. In additin, the fllwing guidelines shall apply: A 60 minimum frm instructr side f lectern t wall r bstructin behind the lectern is required. If 12 f unbstructed knee clearance is available, then the lectern may be 48 frm any bstructin r wall behind the lectern. Lectern must have 36 knee width unbstructed underneath the lectern. Lectern must be between in height. Preference is fr 34 height. Where the reach depth exceeds 20 inches (510 mm), the Lectern high frward reach shall be 44 inches (1120 mm) maximum and the reach depth shall be 25 inches An ADA cmpliant path f travel t the lectern must be prvided Furniture and Equipment Classrm Specialties Classrm specialties such as whitebards, prjectin screens, and seating vary significantly depending upn the ultimate use f the space. The Design Team shall wrk clsely with Clarksn t identify the needs f each rm. Prjectin screens in classrms shall be crdinated with Campus Planning and the OIT. 3 3.2 Interir Space Standards Classrms Whitebards Clarksn accepts three types f whitebards: wall talkers; prcelain-n-steel surface; and white-bard paint. The use f each shall be determined by Campus Planning and OIT in crdinatin with the Design Team. The writing surface shall span the entire teaching wall with a 48 height whitebard. Additinal whitebard space may be required fr a given classrm. Other types f whitebards shall be full wall surface. Whitebard walls shall be free f all devices (thermstats, receptacles, switches, strbes, hrns, etc.) Classrm Display Size and Placement (Prjected and Direct View) Avid lcating prjectin screens near drs due t cnflict with exit lights. The display shall either be a frnt screen prjectin r a direct view mnitr fr classrms with technlgy. Rear prjectin is nt preferred, but may be cnsidered in specific prjects in crdinatin with Learning Space Design in Clarksn s Divisin f Instructinal Technlgy. The bttm f the displayed image shall be lcated at a min f 48 AFF and as apprpriate fr viewing. A minimum f a 3 separatin shall be prvided between the tp f the display and the finished ceiling. The maximum display size fr a classrm is a direct factr f the ceiling height f the classrm. This display size will dictate the nearest viewer (defined as the clsest set f viewer eyes in frnt f the display) and the further viewer (defined as the furthest set f viewer eyes in frnt f the display). Frnt prjectin shall nt be used in any space with a ceiling height lwer than April,

Fr any classrm with mre than 150 seats, multiple displays may be necessary as determined by Clarksn fr prper viewing. All students shuld be within the sight lines f bth displays and within the nearest and furthest viewer range fr bth displays. When placing single displays it is expected that the display will be placed ff center t allw maximum use f whitebard space and displays simultaneusly while preserving sight lines. Cnsider ptins ther than traditinal screens (e.g. whitebards, etc) fr prjectin display surfaces, as apprved by the Clarksn. All classrm screens shall be mtrized and prvided with a lw vltage wall switch t be lcated behind the instructr s lectern and lw vltage cnnectivity t be cntrlled by a Crestrn system via relays, Screens shall be ceiling recessed. Install screens s that the center f the screen des nt fall n a ceiling grid line. Screens must be Matte White Material with a Gain f 1.0. D nt use tab tensining fr screens. The lighting design shall prvide fr n/ff cntrl f all fixtures in this zne n a single circuit. Zne 2 is defined as the lighting abve the screen r display lcatin. The lighting design shall prvide fr n/ff cntrl f all fixtures in this zne n a single circuit. In rms with prjectin, when Zne 2 is in an ff state and all ther lighting is in an n state, a 15:1 prjected image systems cntrast rati will be achievable at screen lcatin as measured by ANSI/INFOCOMM 3M It shuld be assumed that the prjectr utput is 3600 lumens fr the lighting design purpses. T achieve this ambient light at screen lcatin will be ~5 ft-candles (~50 lux) r lwer, hwever, this shuld be verified by the lighting designer. 20 April,

Zne 3 shall prvide n/ff cntrl f the first ballast fr all fixtures within the area n a single circuit. Zne 4 shall prvide n/ff cntrl f the secnd ballast fr all fixtures within the area n a single circuit. Prvide lighting cntrl fr all circuits bth at the instructr wall adjacent r behind the lectern and n the entry wall behind the dr. Presets fr each zne shall be determined by Campus Planning, the OIT, and the Prvst Office representative. If there is an emergency r always-n fixture in the rm, it shall be placed abve the entry dr furthest frm the display. Initial guidance (needs t be verified by an acustical engineer) fr the fllwing issues: High-reflectance materials near the instructr area that prject sund. Sund-absrbing materials n ceilings and n the upper levels f walls in the rear.
