WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Entries may be submitted by any student in grades 10 th, 11 th, r 12 th enrlled in design r drafting curses in public, parchial r private schls in the state f Cnnecticut. WHAT SHOULD BE ENTERED: Presentatin drawings and a ¼ scale mdel f a single-family residence started and cmpleted in a single schl year under the supervisin f a technlgy educatin instructr that meets the required criteria. DELIVERY OF ENTRIES: All entries are t be delivered t the Cnnecticut Cnventin Center, 100 Clumbus Blvd., Hartfrd, CT n Thursday, March 1, 2018, prir t 12:00 nn. EXHIBIT: All cmpleted entries will be publicly displayed during the Cnnecticut Hme & Remdeling Shw at the Cnnecticut Cnventin Center, March 2nd-4th, RETURN OF ENTRIES: All entries submitted by entrants, as well as their accmpanying scale mdels, will becme the prperty f the Hme Builders & Remdelers Assciatin f Central Cnnecticut, Inc. fr the duratin f the hme shw. Please see attached Mdel Pick Up Agreement. All drawings and mdels must be reclaimed at the Cnnecticut Cnventin Center NOT befre 4:30p.m. n Sunday, March 4, 2018, r Mnday, March 5, 2018, between 8:00 a.m. t 12:00 nn. The HBRA is nt respnsible fr entry materials. If mdels are nt picked up they will be dispsed f by the Cnnecticut Cnventin Center. 2 Design Criteria Design a single family hme with three bedrms nt t exceed 2,000 sq. ft. f flr space measured t the utside face f all perimeter walls. The residence may be with r withut basement The residence must have a garage. The garage can be in the basement, attached r freestanding. The garage must be enclsed; Carprts d nt cunt as a garage. Please nte: Garages, pen prches, decks, unfinished incidental, strage, greenhuses, seasnal slar spaces, unfinished basements & attic areas will nt be cunted as finished living area. Tw stry spaces shall be cunted as ne area at the flr level. The site is a residential building lt with 100 f frntage and 140 f depth (site may incrprate varying tpgraphy and characteristics fr additinal pints. Mandatry Entry Requirements- ENTRIES WILL BE REJECTED UNLESS THEY MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Drawing Mdel Black ink/pencil n white paper. Essentially flat, raised letter r ther three dimensinal surfaces are nt permitted. Drawing sheet size shall be 24 wide x 30 high in prtrait frmat. Munted n heavy card-bard r illustratin bard. Only 1 sheet allwed fr drawings. Multiple sheets are nt permitted Full dimensinal scale mdel 1/4 scale f the huse design. The mdel is t be cnstructed f suitable material f the student s chice n a rigid base (1/2 plywd r equivalent) 24 wide x 30 high in prtrait frmat. Student t include a 3 ¼ wide x 1 ¼ high label fr the left frnt crner f mdel: Schl Name, Student Name, Teacher Name WHAT YOU CAN WIN The Judges Will Scre n the Fllwing Sectins : General Requirements Drawings must include title blck and must include instructr s signature. Plt plan in 1 = 20 scale, shwing all exterir building dimensins and all setbacks frm lt lines. Assume 35 frnt & rear building lines with 10 side yard. Shw Nrth arrw n the plt plan. A typical wall sectin nting materials t be used including insulatin, rf and wall cnstructin. A flr plan in 1/4 scale including square ftage, sizes with adequate dimensins and Rm Titles. The entries shuld include three NAHB s Green Hme Building Guideline cncepts & the reasn utilized n the enclsed frm prvided by Hme Builders & Remdelers Assciatin f Central CT. Energy Efficiency: Students may incrprate energy efficiency features in the design f the hme (heating/cling, windws, drs, etc.). Students shuld prvide specific details in their wall sectin drawings. Spnsrship Awards: By Carrier:$500 t the schl f the winner f this award fr practical & unique adaptatin t changing technlgies, trends and needs f tday s hme building industry Santini Hmes Award: $500 t the student and $500 t the schl prgram fr the mdel that exhibits sphisticated design intent & executin, innvative prblem slving, attentin t detail & quality HBRA Fundatin Awards: fr students wh want t pursue careers in Architecture, Cnstructin Management, Cnstructin Technlgy, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering 1st PLACE: $1,000 Cash Prize will be awarded t the winner and a $1,500 schlarship shall be presented upn evidence f matriculatin in ne f the prgrams listed abve. 2 ND Place: $600 Cash Prize and a $750 schlarship with the same criteria as abve. 3 rd Place:: $300 Cash Prize 4 th Place: $100 Cash Prize Schlarships shall be presented upn graduatin frm high schl & is t be used within tw (2) years f that time. The schl f the student winning 1st place shall receive a plaque n which will be designated the name f the schl, the teacher and the student. Additinal awards may be given fr Areas f Excellence: Architectural; Green Building; Energy Efficiency; Accessibility; Structural Detail; Thinking Outside the Bx; Unique Mdel Presentatin; Best First Time Entry fr a Schl. Each award is $500 and will be given t the student s schl t enhance the department curriculum.

Excellence in Flr Plan Design: The design submitted displays practical, livable, and cmfrtable spaces. The design shuld feature a well thught ut circulatin (traffic flw) pattern. Rm adjacencies and separatins are cnsidered in this categry. Excellence in Exterir Design: The design submitted displays well thught ut rflines, windw/dr arrangements, prprtins, and material selectins. Accuracy f Cnstructin Details: The required wall sectin submitted displays knwledge f materials and cnstructin methds and assemblies. Presentatin Categries Sheet Organizatin: The drawings submitted are arranged in a sensible and easy t read frmat. Adequate labeling is prvided. Quality f Drawing (frmerly Use f Pint Sizes and Fnts): The types f drawings (perspectives and/r clr renderings fr instance), level f detail, and degree f difficulty f the drawings presented. Mdel Built Accrding t Plan: The mdel submitted matches the plan submitted. Quality f Mdel Cnstructin: The level f wrkmanship f the mdel submitted, as well as the chice f materials, textures and clrs.
