1 Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre Fall Program POTTERY STUDIO BEGINNER WHEEL- 4 Weeks Basic Introduction to wheel throwing-learn the ancient art of throwing pottery on a potter s wheel. Class limit is 5. Instructor: Sue Rayner Dates: Sat. Sept. 27, Oct. 4, 11, 18 Time: 1 pm 3:30 pm Fee: $50.00 members $75.00 non members Material Fee: Clay and firing extra INTRODUCTION TO EARTHERNWARE AND CONE 04 FIRING This class will focus on the decorative techniques on earthenware clay, using slips, and majolica glaze. Sept. 9 Oct. 21 Time: 7:00 9:30 pm Fee: $ or $20.00 per session Material Fee: Clay extra (glazing & 04 firing included) THROWING TALL Gord Shuttleworth a London potter, taught by Chris Sneddon, has been potting for 12 years. Throwing Tall Columnar Vases Gord will demonstrate throwing 3 tall forms and joining them to construct one tall vase. Gord will also be available after his demo to assist potters with their own throwing. Instructor: Gord Shuttleworth Dates: Tuesday Sept. 23 Time: 10:00 am 12:00 noon Fee: Cost - $15.00 lunch included MICHAEL KIFER April 11, 12, 2015 Save the date for this fabulous weekend of experiences in colour. Michael Kifer 'Expressive, Painterly Earthenware' Working as a potter for over 30 years, Michigan-based potter, Michael Kefir, will spend the weekend demonstrating his whimsical approach to textured clay construction. He will also demonstrate his painterly approach to decorating clay, by spraying and brushing underglazes, and various other methods to decorate and embellish his work. 1
2 FIBRE ARTS BEGINNERS FELTING Learn to felt with the Fibre Arts Group. Create simple landscape designs. First night will be a sunset and the second night will be a simple landscape of your choice (approximately 8 X 10). Kit Fee is less than $20.00 and will include everything that you will need. Date: Tuesday Sept. 30 & Oct. 7 Time: 7 9 pm Fee: $20members/$30 non-members Material Fee: kit fee extra payable to the instructor RUGHOOKING CREATING TEXTURE IN RUG HOOKING - 2 Days In this class you will be empowered to create distinctive hooking. By using creative stitches, wide cut sculpting, a bit of Proddy, Sari silks, textured yarn, Trapunto and a bit of glitz etc., you will further develop a unique hooking style. Class will work a linen sampler, 10 x 8, with the methods demonstrated. Notes will be provided for future reference. Originally a four day course, this seminar will appeal to hookers with some experience. Maximum 15 people. Instructor: Beatrice Grant Dates: Fri. Oct. 3 & Sat. FINE ARTS MIXED MEDIA - 1 DAY This class offers a sense of freedom and play. You will learn the foundations of mixed media art through experimentation and layering. Explore your creativity through the use of mediums such as acrylic paint, pastels, images, papers and more. You will learn to prepare your surface and layer using methods such as collage, photo image transfer, stenciling and stamping. Instructor: Ruth Davis Dates: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm Time: Sat. Nov. 15 Fee: $30 members $60 non-members PAINTING WITH NATURE FOR ACRYLIC PAINTERS Instructor: Anita Woods Dates: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm Time: Tuesday Sept. 30 & Wed. Oct. 1 Fee: $80 members only BEYOND THE BRUSH ACRYLIC TECHNIQUES Join Kate in discovering the many ways you can apply acrylic paint to your canvas or wooden panel. Using a variety of tools and acrylic mediums you will discover how you can bring texture and depth to your paintings. Based on an even grid, you will learn how to make the units fit together perfectly. Instructor: Julie Martin Dates: Thursday, Sept. 25, Oct. 9, 16, & 30 Time: 9:30 am - 12 noon Fee: $50 members only TAKE A BOW - 2 sessions Traditional Bow Tie blocks, sashed and on-point, make up this stunning scrap quilt. First session- learn to make the blocks using 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" strips. Second session - 1 full day - completed blocks will be assembled and on-point setting will be demonstrated. Nov. 29-9:30 am - 3:30 pm Fee: $40 members only PATCHWORK ESSENTIALS - 6 classes Today s quilts require the learning of new skills and understandings. This class will concentrate on these while giving the satisfaction of making a first quilt! Starting with a jelly roll of coordinated fabrics, we will study the colour selection and arrangement, learn rotary cutting techniques, practice accurate ¼ seam allowances, organized construction and pressing techniques, using a pattern from Scrap Basket Sensations by Kim Brackett. *Homework is essential. In this class, we will be focusing on the various techniques with multicoloured papers to make your own masterpiece, with examples given of monogrammed initials and an intricate snowflake. You will be provided with all materials including a quilling tool that will allow you to continue making your own works of art at home. Ages: 8 and up Dates: Sat. 5 COLOUR PLAY WITH ALCOHOL INKS Prepare yourself for an intense colour experience with this expressive medium. We will be experimenting with the application of vibrant inks to a variety of surfaces including yupo, paper, fabric and ceramic. The results are lively and exciting! Ages: 8 and up Dates: Sat. October 25 Time: 9:30 11:30 am Fee: $25.00 materials included EXPERIMENTAL WATERCOLOUR SNOWFLAKES! In this three step process, students will plan a layout using word and image transfers including the design of their own snowflake, then apply watercolour paint techniques along with a variety of experimental mediums to produce vivid and exciting works of art! Ages: 11 and up Dates: Wed., November 26, December 3,10 Time: 4:30 5:30 pm Fee: $35.00 materials included ZENTANGLE 1 Zentangle 1 is a fun and relaxing method of artistic doodling! This exciting art form, developed by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, uses specific, easy-to-learn patterns drawn with focus, imagination and intentionality to create complex pieces of art. Students will gain a sense of empowerment and self-satisfaction with the quality of work they will successfully accomplish. Ages: 9 and up Dates: Sat. October 4, 2014 Time: 9:00 12:00 noon Fee: $32.00 materials included ZENTANGLE 2 Zentangle 2 continues to explore this expressive form of artistic doodling! We will be learning new and more complex patterns to add to our current lexicon, as well as advanced techniques to contribute depth and dimension to our work. We will experiment with variable borders, irregular shapes, enhancements, shading, value patterns, composition and ZIA (Zentangle Inspired Art). If you enjoyed Zentangle 1, you won t want to miss this next exciting journey! Prerequisite: Zentangle 1 or equivalent Ages: 9 and up Dates: Sat.
