1 Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre Fall Program CHILDREN S CLASSES Watercolour, Pen and Ink - 4 classes Through a series of experiences with various watercolour techniques, the students will become familiar with the properties of watercolor in combination with pen and ink designs. Ages: years old Instructor: Fran Redman Dates: Tuesday Oct. 6, 13, 20 & 27 Time: 4:30 pm - 6 pm Fee: $48.00 materials included Tea Party Pottery - 4 classes Children will hand build funky tea bowls and tea pots using different techniques for decorating and glazing. 2 ADULTS - General Interest Batik Workshop This workshop is a day of exploring the ancient art of batik for all creative abilities. Following a demonstration, you will be learning how to use wax as a resist on silk and layering coloured dyes to build your image. You may like to create a piece of silk to frame, hang or sew into something or you may like to paint a large silk handkerchief or scarf for a gift or to wear. Please bring an apron. Learn how people are using Pinterest to plan everything from kitchen remodels to weddings. Create Pin Boards to store and share your ideas. A great tool for business or pleasure. Oct. 1st Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Fee: $15 members/$22.50 non-members TTT s Tips &Techniques Tutorials for Painters "Things you didn't know about your paint" What do all those numbers mean on the back of your paint tubes? By learning what these mean, you can make better pigment choices when mixing colour and not get any unpleasant surprises. Maureen Shier will explain the properties of paint with graphics and hand-outs for you to take home for future reference. Information pertains to all mediums whether it be oil, acrylic or watercolour. Instructor: Maureen Shier Date: Sat. Oct. 24th Time: 10 am - 12:30 pm Fee: $12.50 members/$18.75 non-members TTT s Tips &Techniques Tutorials for Painters All those different brushes" Have you ever wondered what some of the specialty brushes can really do to improve your painting as well as how to properly load the brush, hold the brush and execute the proper stroke with the brush? Why are some riggers (liners) long, short, have more bulk than others etc.? Can you use different brushes to get the same look...that can save you money, if you already have a brush that will give you the desired look. Have you bought brushes only to have them sit untouched because you don't know what they can do for you? Come and watch Maureen Shier demonstrate common and specialty brushes so you can decide whether or not that brush is one you just have to have...or not. If time allows Maureen will permit you to use her brushes to experiment with at the end of the demonstration. Enjoy this relaxing and fun filled day of FMQ and learn some of the ins and outs of this very interesting quilting technique. It s not rocket science and it IS a lot of fun!! 5 ADULTS - QUILTING Patchwork Essentials For The Newer Quilter 6 weeks Today s quilts require learning and understanding new skills. This class will concentrate on these, while giving the satisfaction of making a first quilt. Starting with a jellyroll of coordinated fabrics, we will study colour selection and arrangement, learn rotary cutting techniques, practice accurate ¼ seam allowances, organized construction and pressing techniques, using a pattern from Scrap Basket Sensations, by Kim Brackett. * Homework is required. Instructor: Jean Hillis Date: Tuesdays starting Oct. 6 Time: 7 pm 9 pm Fee: $65 members/$95 non-members Magic Triangles - 1 day Learn how to make these easy blocks, containing three triangles and a square, without actually cutting any triangles!! This is a very versatile block which can be dressed up to create many different, unique quilts. We will learn the technique, as well as a secondary method of construction which creates a totally different design. Eight different looking quilts, all made from this same block, will be shown. If time permits, we will construct a small wall-hanging and then anything further will be up to your own imagination! Instructor: Dorothy Balsdon Date: Sat. Oct. 24 Time: 9:30 am - 3:30 pm Fee: $35 members/$50 non-members RUGHOOKING CLASS Beginners Rug Hooking Come and explore the historical craft of hooking mats. Born out of necessity, this craft was created by the settlers after arriving to the new world in You will work on a small project, while learning about the different types of backings, hooks, wool, widths of wool strips and finishing techniques. 6 ADULTS - FINE ARTS Oil Painting Class - 8 classes Starting with the basics, we will discuss canvases and other structures and how to prepare them for oil painting. We will also touch on various painting styles, types of paint, and student vs artist quality paints and their merits, along with brushes and their various shapes and construction. If possible wait to buy your brushes until after the first session, to save you having purchased inferior quality ones. There are a lot of differences! Bring an assortment of photo references that you feel you would like to learn to paint and we will discuss the merits of your selections for everyone to learn from. There are 3 art supply stores in London - Guthries, Bijan's and Currys. Instructor: Cathy Groulx Date: Wed. Sept. 23, 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4 & 11 Time: 9:30 - noon Fee: $105 members/$155 non members Drawing Classes - 6 classes This is the class for anyone wanting to practice or improve their drawing skills. Using pencils and charcoal, fundamental techniques such as perspective, dimension, form, light and shade will be covered. We will be drawing from still life arrangements and the clothed human figure. Please bring: drawing book, sheets of paper with a board to lean on, pencils-b s, charcoal and also coloured pencils if you desire. Instructor: Ruth Baker Date: Tues. Oct. 6 to Nov. 10th Time: 7 pm - 9 pm Fee: $65 members/$90 non-members Participants also pay $10 a session to the model when applicable. Water, Water, Everywhere In this two day watercolour workshop we will be painting one of the most fascinating and challenging subjects to paint - WATER! It can change in an instant. Water ranges from being very calm with mirror reflected images, to being filled with ripples with broken reflections, to being rough and angry, not showing any reflections! The colours range from almost white filled with sparkles to gorgeous blues to stormy grays. There are many faces of water and many ways to paint water. In this two day workshop, part of a workshop series, Water, Water, Everywhere! our goal is to paint Rippled Water with reflections! The demo will be completed step by step over the two days. The Workshop demo will be Rippled Water and a Great Blue Heron! Instructor: Anita Wood Date: Tues. Oct. 6 & Wed. Oct. 7 Time: 9:30am - 3:30pm Fee: $85 members & $115 non-members 6
7 ADULTS - POTTERY STUDIO Beginners Wheel - 4 classes Basic introduction to wheel throwing - learn the ancient art of throwing pottery on a potter s wheel. Also included is a taste of hand building. Sept. 19, 26, Oct. 3 &17 Time: 1-4 pm Fee: $75 members/$105 non-members Material Fee: Clay and firing extra Beginners Hand Building with Clay - 6 classes Learning basic hand building skills through using various wood and plaster molds and the extruder to make both functional and altered whimsical forms. There will be a special emphasis on surface decoration: making and using different kinds of stamps, carving and incising, and use of slips and different glaze applications. No prior experience in using clay is necessary. Instructor: Keith Lewis Dates: Wed. Credit card registrations are accepted by phone. Classes are limited in size, so please register early. Registration deadline is one week prior to the class. Not a Member?
