FOR REGISTRATION CALL OR VISIT US ONLINE AT 8-WEEK CLASSES, $ Free open studio time and 25lbs of stoneware clay included with all 8-week classes. Open studio privileges extend only to weeks classes are in session. Basic ceramic tool kit is required for each class and can be purchased in Pewabic s Gallery Store. Daytime classes reserved for students 15 and older. Night classes reserved for students 18 and older. MADE FOR THE MENU Mondays 10:00PM 1:00PM Buket Kinalikaya Session 1: April 27 rh June 15 th Session 2: June 22 nd August 10 th This class is for the beginning and advanced students. The focus will be on making functional objects for specific foods and events. Hand-building, extruding and wheel-throwing techniques will be combined to create utilitarian objects. Wheel-throwing experience not necessary to utilize demonstrated techniques, beginners and advanced students alike will create functional ceramic pieces. Surfaces suitable for food will also be discussed. FIGURE SCULPTING Mondays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Chris Mayse Session 1: April 27 rh June 15 th Session 2: June 22 nd August 10 th Students of this class will focus on developing sculptural techniques involving the human form through a variety of optional hand-building methods including but not limited to: additive and subtractive sculpture, relief, wheel-thrown assemblage, etc. This class seeks to further develop hand-building skills while creating an understanding of anatomy where results will range from classical to the abstract. MONDAY WHEEL Monday, 6:00AM 9:00PM Annie Dennis Denaway Session 1: April 27 th June 15 th Session 2: June 22 th August 10 th During this class, basic to advanced wheel-throwing techniques will be demonstrated. Beginning techniques such as centering, compressing and shaping, as well as more advanced techniques such as attaching multiple parts to one object, throwing lids, and surface decoration will be covered. This class is suitable for all levels and will cover the whole spectrum of the ceramic process.

3 INDEPENDENT STUDY Tuesdays, 10:00AM 1:00PM Mary Ann Grauf Session 1: April 28 rh June 16 th Session 2: June 23 nd August 11 th Students will work on independent projects with guidance from an instructor to achieve individual goals. This class is designed for the intermediate and advanced students that have specific ideas that do not fit within other class descriptions. Students must have hand building and/or clay sculpting experience. HAND-BUILDING Tuesdays, 6:00PM 9:00PM JoAnn Aquinto Session 1: April 28 rh June 16 th Session 2: June 23 nd August 11 th Through demonstration and discussion, beginner to experienced students will learn both basic and advanced technical clay building techniques that apply to both functional and sculptural work. Design and aesthetic considerations with a concentration on the development of personal vision will be the focus. Glaze techniques will also be explored. CERAMIC SURFACE DESIGN Tuesdays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Chrys Bonnay-Lewis Session 1: April 28 th June 16 th Session 2: June 23 rd August 11 th The main focus of this class will be on surface treatment and decoration. Along with basic wheel throwing techniques, ceramic decals, sgraffito, and relief impressions will also be covered. Techniques for pre-fired surfaces, bisque-fired surfaces, and glaze-fired surfaces will all be demonstrated. This class is appropriate for all skill levels. SMALL OBJECTS & JEWELRY MAKING Tuesdays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Marcia Hovland Session 1: April 28 rh June 16 th Session 2: June 23 rd August 11 th Students will learn how to make and decorate small objects for both functional and decorative purposes. Main focus will be on techniques required to successfully use clay as a jewelry component. Plaster mold making, glazing things in full round, as well as an introduction of underglazes illustration will be covered. This class is suitable for all levels of experience.

4 WEDNESDAY WHEEL Wednesdays, 10:00AM 1:00PM Victoria Shaheen Session 1: April 29 th June 17 th Session 2: June 24 th August 12 th During this class, basic to advanced wheel-throwing techniques will be demonstrated. TILE MAKING Wednesdays, 6:00PM 9:00PM Dave McGee Session 1: April 29 th June 17 th Session 2: June 24 th August 12 th Taught by a Pewabic Designer, this class will cover the way Pewabic s Fabrication department traditionally designs, fabricates and glazes tiles. Various mold-making and surface treatment techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Sculpting, carving and hand-paints will be also be covered. This class is appropriate for all skill levels. THURSDAY THROWING Thursdays, 10:00AM - 1:00PM Rick Pruckler Session 1: April 30 th June 18 th Session 2: June 25 th August 13 th Beginners will learn the basics of wheel throwing and glazing techniques. Intermediate and advanced students will refine their personal voices by developing advanced wheel and decorative techniques. Wheel throwing classes accommodate beginners, intermediate and advanced students. ADVANCED INDEPENDENT STUDY Fridays, 10:00AM 1:00PM Session 1: May 1 st June 19 th Session 2: June 26 th August 14 th This is time set aside for students who do not require instruction but would like to utilize the studio and process work in our kilns. Students interested in enrolling in this class must receive approval from Education Studio Manager. Experimental glaze / slip making materials are not covered by class tuition. Staff is available for questions but an instructor is not present for this class.

5 4-WEEK INTENSIVE, $ Purchased with open studio hours Open studio privileges extend only to those weeks that classes are in session. CERAMIC SAMPLER Victoria Shaheen Friday 10:00AM 1:00PM Session 1: May 8 th May 29 th This intensive is designed for students who have never worked in clay and would like to sample the different construction methods. Students will press a tile, throw on the wheel and hand-build a small object. Clay & tools for projects will be provided. WORKSHOPS AND SPECIAL EVENTS Workshop fee includes clay and one bisque firing. Pieces will be available for pickup 4-6 weeks after workshop. SUNDAYS IN THE SUN $25.00 PER PERSON Staff Instructor Sunday July 12 th, 19 th, 26 th. 12:00PM 2:00PM No registration needed! If you ve been thinking of trying the wheel, or are looking for a fun thing to do on Sunday, stop in to our Drop-In Wheel Workshop! Participants can experience wedging, centering and throwing on the wheel. If the sun in shining, wheels will be outside under a tent. If it rains, sessions will be move inside. Tools, wheels and aprons provided. Additional fees may be applied for firing and glazing objects. PIT FIRING $ PER PERSON Kevin Kwiatkowski + Victoria Shaheen Saturday, June 20th 12:00PM TBD Pit firing is a relatively involved low-fired glaze process. Bisqued pieces will be placed into a hole in the ground and fired over the course of a day with a slow cool over night. The surface effects come from different materials introduced into the atmosphere at different times throughout the firing. This workshop will cover proper prep for pit-firing, different architectures of pits, and when and why to introduce certain materials. Prep and loading of the kiln will begin at 10:00AM. Please bring no more than (2) already bisque-fired piece. Pieces will be limited to what fits into the pit. This workshop is all day, but you may drop in and out.

6 SPOUTING OFF: A TEAPOT WORKSHOP $ PER PERSON Susannah Goodman Saturday, May 30th 10:00PM 1:00PM Teapots provide potters the opportunity to explore many skills within one project - forming lids that fit, throwing off the hump, collaring for spots, pulling handles, and arranging all the pieces into something that pours well. We will explore principles of design and composition, as well as issues of use in the home. Workshop will include both demonstration and hands-on teapot building. Some wheel-throwing experience required. EDUCATION OPEN HOUSE Saturday, May 2 nd 11 AM 4 PM Come see the studio in action! Pewabic staff will give wheel throwing as well as Raku firing demonstrations. Education Studio students will be on-site selling work created in the studio. Come make your very own Garden Marker ($20 each) or bring in your newborn and create a Baby Footprint memento ($25 each). 10% of proceeds from Baby Footprints will be donated to the March of Dimes. Docent led tours of the pottery will be at 12 PM, 1 PM and 2 PM. The event is for all ages. SATURDAY YOUTH WORKSHOPS Youth workshops are held one Saturday per month and cost $30.00 per person or $45.00 for one child and adult making one project. Workshops are held on the following dates from Noon 2PM. All workshops and camps are onsite, if not otherwise noted. YOUTH CERAMIC CAMPS Camps are designed with age-appropriate projects to accommodate students age Each student will create uniquely fired ceramic pieces and other crafts that explore the worlds created by the likes of J.K. Rowling, Roald Dahl and L. Frank Baum. Each week will also include story-based games and activities, culminating in an art showcase! Skills including wedging clay, centering and compressing walls will be covered, as well as bloating out and collaring. Participants will also learn various glazing techniques and firing processes. 8 Pewabic Education Studio is under no obligation to reschedule classes that are cancelled upon the closure of the facility due to inclement weather. In the event that an instructor cancels a class, or the pottery itself must close for business-related reasons, a make-up class will be arranged if possible. Due to studio space demands, there is no guarantee that a make-up class will be offered. Class fees cover materials and studio time for 8 week courses, including 25lbs of clay and open studio hours, therefore classes cannot be pro-rated to accommodate a missed class, nor will refunds be issued. In rare circumstances, credits may be given towards classes per the Education Studio staff. Please contact the Manager of Education for more information.
