After some quick exercises in color theory and mixing colors, students will be able to work on landscapes, portraits, animals, or any subject of choice. Learn how to make a sunrise glow by using color harmonies and take advantage of toned tan paper to speed up doing a portrait in sepia and crème. Learn the proportions of the head and facial features while focusing on the variations that create a unique individual portrait. Beginners develop black and white studies while advanced students can move into color. Classes will work from photo references, a live model and then from their own photographs. Explore the foundations of drawing. Learn new skills or reacquaint yourself with techniques that are the underpinnings for all works of art. We will create artwork with atmosphere evoking emotion and tone. We will begin the class by familiarizing ourselves with ink washing, and the Pentel Brush Pen. As the class progresses we ll conceptualize and prepare for a final image, through smaller thumbnail sketches, compositional studies and value studies. Finally, we will execute a finished image that communicates more intentionally with your viewers. b.i.a. Explore temperature variables and their impact on color by mixing primary color triads using colors with warm and cool bias to create secondary and tertiary colors. Mix neutral to create different value luminosities. Demos will be done using oil paints but any medium is welcome. Students will develop at least 3 final paintings using color theory. We will push your artistic talents by experimenting in a mixture of watercolor, acrylic ink, modeling paste and oil pastels of interesting stocks. You will create 3 exciting pieces, whether you prefer objective or non-objective art. We will focus on good composition and have a group discussion at the end of each class. 6 Pastels: Painting in 3 Steps TUESDAY AFTERNOONS C ZACK 12:30PM 3:00 PM New advances in the medium, new pastels types and improved painting surfaces, along with better ways to frame and protect your finished pastel paintings are all part of this class. Be sure to follow the supply list for this class. Not all pastels will work for these techniques.. Oct 2, 9, 16 FL18-ZACK-1B Oct 30, Nov 6, 13, 27, Dec 4, 11 PRINTMAKING Printmaking: An Introduction to Relief Prints THURSDAY EVENINGS (7:00 9:30 PM) B CALVERT Students will learn techniques of relief Printmaking. We will cover history, tools, inks, paper, plate/blocks, and printing process. Both wood and linoleum blocks will be carved/printed in class. The goal is for students to gain skills and confidence to produce images by hand printing. b.i.a. $15 fee for supplies payable to the teacher Students can determine as they proceed if they want to invest for future creations. Class will include lessons in wet-on-wet color combinations, glazing, texture, masking and color washes. We will also discuss methods of creating compositions using value, shapes and edges. 8 FALL 2018 ADULT WORKSHOPS WATER COLOR WORKSHOP Hours: 9:00 AM-3:00 PM PEGGY MACNAMARA Peggy s workshop will cover simple drawing techniques; gesture, interior contour, measuring and locating. Anyone can learn to draw accurately, if they have a system. She will also demonstrate Layering Watercolor methods (300 lb paper is necessary) All levels welcome! Cost: $ W-FL18 MACM 1 SEPTEMBER 7, 2018 OIL PASTEL WORKSHOP GEORGE SHIPPERLY Hours: 9:00 AM 4:00 PM with 1 hour lunch The one day session will include learning various techniques in working with Oil Pastels and how to improve composition, color harmony and proper presentation of finished works. George will work individually with each artist to better focus on their needs. There will be a class critique at the end of day. Cost: $110. Supply list will be available at the front desk. 10 REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT Full payment is due at the time of registration prior to the first class. No class registration may be accepted without payment. Saturday 9:00AM 2:00 PM, MISSED CLASSES: Classes are sold as a full session. Refunds are never issued for missed classes. Missed classes may be made up in other classes and times taught by the same teacher at the discretion of the instructor. Students whose schedules will cause them to miss a significant number of classes in a session, may buy single classes at $20 each on the day of the class if the class is not full and the instructor approves. REFUND POLICY AND CANCELLATIONS: Refunds will be made only if cancellation is made 5 business days prior to the first class. There will be a $5 charge for processing a refund. Classes with insufficient enrollment will be canceled. All refunds will be handled through the mail. The DPAL reserves the right to change dates, cancel, postpone, split, or combine classes. TRANSFERRING CLASSES: Class registrations cannot be transferred from one class to another. Students may cancel a class, ask for a refund (If 5 days or more before the class begins), and then select and pay for another class to replace it. There will be a $5 processing fee for refund requests. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Class fees can be waived upon presentation of evidence of financial need. The DPAL offers a $5 discount on class fees to Senior Citizens (62 years and over). Call for further information. For regular desk staffers and board members, a 50% discount for one class per quarter. This discount does not apply to workshops. SCHOLARSHIPS: Application forms are available at the DPAL front desk.
