6 FINE ARTS MUSIC DOK 1 Students at DOK 1 are able t recall facts, terms, musical symbls, and basic musical cncepts, and t identify specific infrmatin cntained in music (e.g., pitch names, rhythmic duratin, vice and instrument classificatin, music histry). DOK 2 Students at DOK 2 engage in mental prcessing beynd recalling r reprducing a respnse. Students begin t apply pitch relatinships while singing (e.g., s-d), perfrm accurately n an instrument, and begin t self-assess their wn perfrmance. They apply crrect fingerings, bwings and stickings, and interpret ntatin. They can explain and interpret cntrasting styles and genres. Students can hear and recgnize basic frms (e.g., ABA, strphic), intervals, and rhythmic patterns. Students will sight-read independently. DOK 3 In DOK 3, students demnstrate mre cmplex and abstract thinking in their musical perfrmance. Students play r sing in a grup, respnding t the cues f the cnductr. In this situatin, they will use aural skills t blend, balance, and sing/play in-tune; apply pitch and rhythmic accuracy; express elements, articulatin, dictin, and phrasing. Students begin t play independent parts in an ensemble. They can cmpse a simple meldy in a given key, and imprvise ver static harmny (e.g., play mallet instruments ver a brdun r imprvise ver a single chrd). Students use music thery knwledge t analyze chrds/harmnies, realize figured bass and interpret jazz chrds. DOK 4 DOK 4 requires cmplex reasning that includes planning, investigating, and/r analyzing results. Students cmpse in tw r mre vices, which requires the applicatin f harmny, vice leading, and chrd prgressins. When imprvising, students respnd t chrd changes and develp cmplex phrases. They rehearse and perfrm sls with r withut accmpaniment r in nn-cnducted ensembles, in which they are required t make individual infrmed decisins abut style, balance, and expressive elements. DANCE A variety f dance genres (e.g., flk, ballrm/scial, square, cntra, ballet, mdern, jazz, tap, hip hp, ethnic) can be used t develp depth-fknwledge at any grade r ability level. DOK 1 Students may be asked t perfrm basic dance mvements in a variety f genres r mimic the teacher r electrnic media/vide. These types f mvement d nt require previus dance training.
7 DOK 2 Students may apply cncepts f prper mvement technique as it relates t the style f dance. Students develp bdy awareness (e.g., shape, space, timing, rhythm and frce). Students explre hw t alter mvements s kinesthetic and visual differentiatin is felt and viewed. Students begin t describe the mvement they are seeing. DOK 3 Students utilize mre independent thinking and actin t execute dance mvement with prper technique and qualitative distinctin (e.g., elements and qualities f mvement). Imprvisatin may be perfrmed as an individual, with a partner, r in a grup. Students are able t make assessments f self and thers thrugh value statements. DOK 4 Students use awareness f physical mvement and aspects f dance as an art frm t create and critique riginal chregraphed dances. Mvement expresses meaning f ideas, themes and cncepts. Students address hw mvement chices clarify expressin f ideas. Students may incrprate use f music/sund, cstuming, prps, and lighting t supprt their sl r grup wrk. Students review and revise their wrk thrughut the creative prcess t enhance the final chregraphy. VISUAL ART DOK 1 Students at DOK 1 are able t define and describe the use f art elements, principles, style, media, and/r techniques. They can identify the functin f art in a culture, and make cnnectins between visual art and ther cntent areas. DOK 2 Students at DOK 2 can make examples f and cmpare and cntrast art elements, principles, style, media, and/r techniques thrugh guided practice. They can cmpare and cntrast art elements, principles, style, subject matter, theme, media, and techniques in tw wrks f art. DOK 3 Students at DOK 3 create riginal artwrk within a set f teacher-directed parameters which culd include subject matter, theme, histrical style, elements and principles, media, and/r technique. They can express a persnal pint f view thrugh the creatin f artwrk, and create art that serves a purpse in sciety (e.g., fine crafts, graphic design; grup identity; scial, cultural r plitical cmmentary. Students justify artistic decisins and analyze and evaluate the effectiveness f cmmunicating meaning in art. DOK 4 Students at DOK 4 select a tpic f persnal interest as a theme/subject fr creatin f art and define an artistic prblem. The cnduct research using a variety f surces (e.g., print materials, phtgraphs, internet, and histrical exemplars) and develp ideas thrugh a series f studies. They chse and use elements, principles, style, media, and techniques that will best express the intended meaning. Students can write an artist s statement that explains and defends artistic decisins. Students develp and defend persnal answers t aesthetic questins: What is the nature f art? What is beauty? and Wh decides what makes smething art? They draw and defend cnclusins abut hw art is influenced by and influences culture/histry.
8 THEATRE DOK 1 Students at DOK 1 will be asked: Parts f the stage; theatre terminlgy; general theatre safety; theatre hierarchy; basic rules f audience etiquette T perfrm in frnt f the class, creating a steretypical r previusly seen character (nt themselves) DOK 2 Students at DOK 2 will: Cmpare and cntrast styles f acting; identify technical prblems n stage and frmulate desired utcmes; recgnize basic elements f majr theatrical time perids; recgnize and fllw basic script frmatting; demnstrate prper audience etiquette; Perfrm in frnt f class, creating an riginal character in scene wrk DOK 3 Students perfrming at DOK 3 will be able t: Cmplete basic character analysis and perfrm said character; perfrm the required tasks fr a technical theatre crew; demnstrate basic playwriting skills; direct a scene with characterizatin and blcking Perfrm shrt frm imprvisatinal frmat (scene games, line games, head t head, extrardinary, etc.) DOK 4 Students perfrming at DOK 4 will be able t: Create an in-depth character analysis, including textural and histrical supprt fr chices and perfrm said character; Perfrm the functins f a technical element, serving as a designer, stage manager r crew chief; Write a script, in prper frmat, with cntextual supprt f histrical theme, characterizatin, and technical directin; Direct a ne-act with script analysis, characterizatin, blcking, and technical elements t supprt the playwright s intent
