YEAR 9 In year 9 students cmplete 2 BTEC units f wrk Unit 1: Intrductin t Specialist Pathways: The Jungle Bk Prject Hamble Cmmunity Sprts Cllege is cmmissining yung designers t create a fresh apprach t a cllege drama prductin. The drama prductin is an interpretatin f the Disney Classic The Jungle Bk. They have suggested: cstumes and accessries prps sets and interir designs. They have asked that yur cmpleted designs are presented t the client in a prtfli and shuld be design sheets and maquettes (scale mdels). Unit 3: Cmmunicating ideas in 2D: Pstcards Prject The Parents Frum f Hamble Cmmunity Sprts Cllege has requested a new Rewards pstcard fr the cllege t celebrate the success f their children. They wuld like the pstcard t represent and / r symblise: Effrt, Achievement, Celebrate, Reward, and Success. They wuld like the pstcards t be an imprvement frm the cllege s current rewards pstcard which is text based. They wuld like interesting and creative use f imagery and clur t really symblise and grasp the cncept f celebratin and achievement. They have asked that yur cmpleted printed pstcard design and prtfli are presented within an exhibitin. Pstcards created culd be the new Hamble Cmmunity Sprts Cllege reward pstcard!

2 In year 10 GCSE art students are expected t cmplete 2 units f GCSE art and Design cursewrk. Students are asked t respnd t the theme frm past exam papers and are supprted t develp persnal and riginal ideas and utcmes in respnse t the theme. Examples f the themes fr cursewrk prjects include: Frce Similarities and/r differences Surfaces Students are expected t keep a creative diary, planning their time in class and at hme. Targets are set regularly by the teacher and the student in respnse t assessment feedback. Fr each unit f wrk, students prduce a prtfli f preparatry studies as well as a final utcme in their wn chice f media. In year 10 students cmplete 2 BTEC units f wrk. The first unit f wrk that students will cmplete is: Unit 1: Intrductin t Specialist Pathways: The Experiment A film cmpany is cmmissining yung designers t create a fresh apprach t a prductin. The film is a futuristic sci-fi drama film called The Experiment. They have suggested: cstumes and accessries prps sets and interir designs. They have asked that yur cmpleted designs are presented t the client in a prtfli and shuld be design sheets and maquettes r scale mdels. YEAR 10 BTEC prject 2 Students will be asked t prduce a prtfli f wrk in respnse t assignment briefs prvided in class fr either f the fllwing BTEC units f wrk: Unit 3- Cmmunicating Ideas in 2D Unit 4- Cmmunicating Ideas in 3D GCSE Art Textiles : Textiles In year 10 GCSE art textile students are expected t cmplete 2 units f GCSE cursewrk. Prject One: Students are asked t respnd t the theme frm a past exam paper and are supprted t develp persnal and riginal ideas and utcmes in respnse t the theme such as Apart and / r Tgether. Prject Tw: Students are asked t respnd t the theme Decay. Students will investigate relevant visuals and explre hw t manipulate fabrics. Students will have a chice in which directin they take this prject: A fashin piece, 2d textile r 3d textile Within bth prjects students will: Gather visual research and explre their ideas in respnse t the theme using textile media. Develp persnal ideas fr their wn using past GCSE paper theme as starting pints. Experiment with a range f textile media and prcesses (such as: applique, reverse applique, disslvable fabric, stitch drawing, silk painting, embridery etc..) with guidance frm their teacher. Create maquettes, experimental pieces f artwrk t fully explre, test limitatins and develp their grwing ideas. Cmplete an exciting, imaginative, ambitius final piece within 10 hurs, under exam cnditins. Targets are set regularly by the teacher and the student in respnse t assessment feedback. 3 In year 11 students cmplete their final cursewrk prject (which is als their Mck Exam). Nrmally this prject is based n the previus academic year s final exam. Gather visual research and explre their ideas in respnse t the theme. Develp persnal ideas fr their wn using past GCSE paper theme as starting pints. Experiment with a range f media and prcesses with guidance frm their teacher. Create maquettes, experimental pieces f artwrk t fully explre, test limitatins and develp their grwing ideas. Cmplete an exciting, imaginative, ambitius final piece within 10 hurs, under exam cnditins. January: Airbrick time. Students will review and reflect the quality and grading f their cursewrk (prject ne and tw, wrth 60%) and in respnse t frmal teacher feedback will develp and imprve the quality f their prjects. February: Final Art Exam (wrth 40% f the GCSE mark) Students will be given their final exam paper. The theme f the paper is decided each year by the exam bard, Edexcel. Students have 10 weeks (20 hurs directed time) t cmplete their preparatry studies which include: Selecting and recrding visual and ther infrmatin t infrm yur wrk (Taking phts, drawing, making ntes r written bservatins, finding infrmatin n the internet) Develping their wrk by lking at the wrk f ther artists and cntextual references: A great surce f inspiratin is t lk at /experience the wrk f ther artists, cultures, religins. Students will explre what inspires ther artists t get creative, the materials and techniques that they used and the ideas behind the art wrk. Students will have the pprtunity t visit Lndn art galleries t inspire them, cmplete drawings, sketches and gather infrmatin. Develping yur wrk by explring different ideas, media, prcesses, cmpsitins and clur ways. By experimenting with different media and prcesses students will make their wrk mre interesting and develp their art skills. At the beginning f May: Cmplete an exciting, imaginative, ambitius final piece within 10 hurs, under exam cnditins (wrth 25% f their Exam mark). YEAR 11 In year 11 students cmplete 2 BTEC units f wrk Unit 4: Cmmunicating ideas in 3D: The Headspace Prject An Arts festival have invited lcal artists t submit art wrk fr an installatin they are calling Headspace. The Headspace installatin will feature suspended bxes which festival gers pull ver their heads creating an alternative headspace. The bx installatins shuld transprt the viewer t an alternative headspace (ie an insight int the mind/view pint f anther persn/ creature) The Arts Festival wuld like this installatin t prvide its festival gers with a multisensry experience. Submitted art wrk culd be made t be- Smelt Tuched Heard As well as visual. The festival rganisers have suggested the use f Mixed Media Sculpture-3D materials- Paper Mache/ Md Rc/ Wire/ Mulding material eg- Sft M Fabrics Recrded sund Cllage/ Relief Sculpture Installatin Bxes shuld be limited t max 50 cm3 and must be rbust, lightweight and ready t hang Unit 2: Creative Prject This prject is set by the exam bard and sent t schls fr students t cmplete in the Spring Term.

4 GCSE Art Textiles In this vibrant and creative, fast-paced curse, students will be intrduced t and develp a huge variety f exciting skills. They will have the pprtunity t experiment and develp their creative skills and prduce wrk which encurages individual thughts, respnses, feelings, bservatins and ideas fr future GCSE prjects f cursewrk. Sept February: Jungle Bdy Adrnment prject In this prject: In this prject students will be cmpleting Jungle inspired visual research (e.g. plants / flwers / animal pattern) and explring and experimenting with textile techniques. They will then design and make a piece f bdy adrnment (i.e. a neck hanging / brch / cuff). They will learn: YEAR 9 t Cllage and decupage. t develp drawing skills. t draw with wire. t explre felting techniques. t anntate and evaluate their wrk. t explre textile techniques such as: embridery stitches, applique, reverse applique t develp ideas within a creative jurney. t realise yur intentins by creating a final piece. abut the standards fr assessment at GCSE level. February March: Japanese silk painting This cultural prject is an exciting way fr students t study pattern and clur. Students will cmplete visual research f Japanese decrative art, thrugh the prcess f silk painting and quilting. April July: Art Textiles GCSE intrductin: A creative jurney In this prject students are intrduced t the GCSE curse, with explanatins n the requirements f the curse and hw wrk is assessed at GCSE level. Students learn abut hw t prduce A Creative Jurney and hw the wrk shuld be presented. They will: Learn t gather ideas frm a range f surces and respnd using textile media. Learn abut the standards fr assessment at GCSE level Research the wrk f textile artists and ther cntextual links t the prject theme.
