SCANS Objectives SCANS is an acrnym fr Secretary s Cmmissin n Achieving Necessary Skills. The cmmittee, created by the Natinal Secretary f Labr in the early 1990s, created a list f skills and cmpetencies that the cmmittee feels are necessary fr emplyees t functin in a high-tech jb market. 1. Curse delivery utilizes an assrtment f media and delivery tls in the classrm. The curse is cmprised f bth thery and labratry cmpnents. The material being taught in Basic Design Thery and Methds is fundamental t success in all future design-based curses within the Cmputer Aided Drafting Prgram. It is therefre imperative fr yu t cme t each class sessin prepared fr the thery prtin f the lessn by having read the assigned passages. All quizzes, labratry prjects, and unit prjects must be cmpleted t ensure full cmprehensin f the subject matter. A Curse Prject is als assigned as part f the curse wrk in Basic Design Thery and Methds. Ample time will be given t the understanding and cmpletin f the prject wrk in accrdance with the schedule prvided in the curse utline and in the unit plans. Each lab assignment in Basic Design Thery and Methds has been structured t allw utilizatin f the institutin s labratry cmputers t cmplete the task. This shuld give yu sufficient time t understand and practice the requisite skills that will prve beneficial later in the prgram. Assignments have been chsen t allw yu t explre the design prcess, graphic sftware, and basic principles f graphic design. This curse is the first in a series f design curses within the Cmputer Aided Drafting prgram. Yu shuld prepare all prjects in this curse with the intentin f using the images as part f a prtfli.
