1 Chapter 9 The prgramme specific part f the curriculum fr: Diplmingeniør i Mekatrnik Bachelr f Engineering in Mechatrnics Curriculum 2016, Versin 1.0 Applicable t students admitted September 2016 nwards The curriculum is divided int general prvisins (Chapters 1-8), a prgramme specific part (Chapter 9) and the mdule descriptins fr the subjects studied fr each prgramme. Students shuld familiarise themselves with all three parts in rder t acquire a full verview f the rules that apply thrughut the study prgramme.

2 1 Jb Prfile An engineer with a Bachelr f Engineering degree in Mechatrnics has brad knwledge f mechanics, electrnics and sftware. Furthermre, the students have the pssibility f specializing thrugh the chice f prfiles in Mechanical engineering, Electrnics engineering r Embedded systems engineering. The study prgramme fcuses n prduct develpment. The mechatrnics engineer will typically find emplyment in cmpanies which develp and sell mechatrnic prducts. With brad general knwledge and special key cmpetences the mechatrnic engineer can ccupy many different psitins in the cmpany. Typical jb prfiles include: Research and Develpment Engineering Prject Management Custmer cnsultancy Prject Sales Training Typically, mechatrnics engineers will begin their careers as develpment engineers. Within a few years, they will have the pprtunity t cmbine technical wrk with management functins. Engineers are ften invlved in crss-rganizatinal develpment prcesses, as well as being invlved in partnerships with external cmpanies, bth natinally and internatinally. Alternatively, they may develp int specialists in particular technlgies, r perhaps start their wn business. The Bachelr f Engineering degree prvides an immediate pprtunity t start a prfessinal career in an engineering cmpany r t cntinue studying n an MSc prgramme. 2

3 2 Cmpetence Prfile The aim fr the Bachelr f Engineering study prgramme in Mechatrnics is t prvide the students with specific cmpetencies in different disciplines including the interplay between different technlgies and prject wrk. The study prgramme educates the students t carry ut, participate in r lead the develpment f mechatrnic prducts. The study prgramme is divided int tw main parts; - ne cvering the generic and cnstituent part fr all mechatrnic students and ne cvering an elective prfile/specializatin. The Mechatrnic engineer acquires his/her cmpetencies by wrking with subjects frm bth parts. The prgramme is partitined int: Theretical fundatin in mathematics/physics/dynamics/technlgies and scientific methds: The theme cvers cre cmpetencies fr all mechatrnic students. The curses are mandatry and cnstituent. Prfile in Mechatrnics engineering: Cvers curses and prject wrk frm ne r several f the fllwing prfiles. The student is able t create his/hers wn interdisciplinary specializatin. Prfile in Mechanical engineering: Cvers curses and prject wrk that specializes int the develpment f mechanics in a mechatrnic cntext Prfile in Electrnics engineering: Cvers curses and prject wrk that specializes int the develpment f electrnics in a mechatrnic cntext. Prfile in Embedded systems engineering: Cvers curses and prject wrk that specializes int the develpment f embedded systems in a mechatrnic cntext. The students will chse ne f the prfiles. The prfile includes fur prfile curses (20 ECTS) and a semester prject (10 ECTS). Further specializatin is dne thrugh the internship (6th semester) and the Final Prject (7th semester). 3

Methds and persnal learning Cnsists principally f the academic fields: SPRO1M, SPRO2M, SPRO3M, SPRO4M, MC-EXS, with the fllwing themes and principal cntent: SPRO1M: The Mechatrnic Develpment Prcess. An intrductin t the Mechatrnics disciplines: cncept, interdisciplinarity and particular fcus n the develpment prcess. A mechatrnic prduct is designed by applying the ther skills acquired during the semester. SPRO2M: Build Mechatrnics. A mechatrnic prduct is built that is capable f autnmus mvement. The ther subjects f the semester are the academic basis fr the prject. SPRO3M: Develp Mechatrnics. The fcus is n the develpment f an intelligent, dynamic mechatrnic prduct. Thery f Science is intrduced. SPRO4M: Cnstruct Mechatrnics. The prject fr the semester is based n the develpment f either electrnics, mechanics r embedded systems as part f a mechatrnics system.). Thery f Science cntinues frm SPRO3M. MC-EXS: Experts in Teams. The students will be challenged by a cmplex prduct develpment situatin. They will wrk tgether in large teams in a prject with many stakehlders where the ability t cperate with different peple (engineers and nn-engineers) and the ability t rganize the prject as well as the ability t use ne s wn expertise is a must t achieve a satisfying result. Thery f Science will be cmpleted. MC-IET the Internship: The student gains practical and theretical experience as an emplyee in a cmpany wrking as an engineer. 13

14 Prgressin thrugh the prjects enhance and develp persnal and learning cmpetencies, while at the same time the academic cmpetencies are learned in depth and brught t maturity in "real" prjects, thus giving persnal cmpetencies in the areas f: Cmmitment, Initiative, Respnsibility, Ethics, Establishment, Ability t put persnal learning int perspective and learning cmpetencies in the area f: Analysis and assessment f data material; Cmmunicatin f wrking results using appraches that require reflectin, cperatin and independency. The prgressin finalizes with the ne semester internship where the student will be challenged n all cmpetencies and experience hw it is t be an engineer in reality. Specializatin and electives Mechatrnics Engineering (interdisciplinary prfile) Fcusing f cmpetencies is dne by chsing elective curses in the furth and fifth semesters (15 ECTS pints in ttal). The curses will be in the dmain f the MCI research r the specialized prfiles, - e.g.: Micr- and Nantechnlgy, Mdelling and Cntrl f Mechatrnic Systems, Embedded Systems, Electrnics r Mechanical Engineering prfiles. Specializatin Mechanical Engineering Fcusing f cmpetencies is dne by the prfile mdules in the furth and fifth semester and the semester prject n 4. semester (30 ECTS pints in ttal). The specializatin cnsists f fllwing curses MC-SP4ME, MC-MAC, MC-MAP, MC-LIE and MC-FJM with the fllwing principal cntent: SPRO4ME: Mechanical Semester Prject. The prject fr the semester is specialized within the Mechanical field with emphasis n Design f experiments t supprt mechanical design cncepts and design f mechanical device emplying mechanical cmpnents. MC-MAC: Understand hw t calculate; select and use standard Machine Cmpnents such as Gear and Chains; Bearings; Springs; Mechanical clutches and Transitin Elements MC-MAP: Basic understanding f Manufacturing prcesses related t different materials especially metals and plymers MC-LIE: Fundamental definitins f Stress and Strain in three dimensins; Stress and Strain in Beams and Plates; Fundamental Mechanical Vibratins and Energy Cncepts. MC-FJM: Fastening methds: Screws, nuts and Blts, Rivets, Click assemblies, shaft cnnectins. Jining methds: Welding f metals welding f thermplastics; Sldering and Adhesives Further specializatin can be dne by fcusing n the Mechanical academic field in the Internship n sixth semester and the Final Prject n seventh semester. Prgressin - Mechanical Engineering: Prgressin n the Mechanical Engineering prfile is btained by adding advanced tpics f mechanical engineering n tp f the basic subjects frm the first three semesters, and furthermre giving the students the pssibility f enhancing their knwledge, skills and cmpetencies in mechanics during the fifth semester-prject (Experts in Teams), Internship and the Finale prject. Specializatin Electrnics Engineering Fcusing f cmpetencies is dne by the prfile mdules in the furth and fifth semester and the semester prject n 4. semester (30 ECTS pints in ttal). The specializatin cnsists f fllwing curses MC-SP4EL, MC-DSP, MC-PWE, MC-HFC and MC-RES with the fllwing principal cntent: SPRO4EL: Electrnics Semester Prject. The prject fr the semester is specialized within Pwer Electrnics. Key areas are Circuit design and simulatin, Integratin f DSP algrithms and Pwer Electrnic measurements and testing 14

15 MC-DSP: Discrete transfrmers; Z-transfrms; Cnvlutin, Crrelatin; Finite Impulse Respnse filters (FIR) and Infinite Impulse Respnse filters (IIR). MC-PWE: Pwer cmpnents attributes and characteristics fr switching peratin; cnceptual analysis f circuits; calculatins; design and simulatin f switching and linear peratin pwer cmpnents. MC-RES: Intrductin t the fundamental principles f reliability and practical reliability definitins, the main stresses and failure mechanisms f Electrnic cmpnents, the design fr reliability prcess. MC-HFC: RF circuit basic, tw-prt mdel, S-parameter, nise in transmissin systems, Mdulatin thery basics (AM, FM, PM, etc.), Wave prpagatin, Antenna thery and design Further specializatin can be dne by fcusing n the Electrnics academic field in the Internship n sixth semester and the Final Prject n seventh semester.
