12 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Setting Up the Cntrller & Display Setting up the cntrller and display is straight frward. Simply plug the cntrller int a 12V transfrmer, then cnnect the display using a standard Cat5/Cat6 Ethernet patch cable. This cable can be up t 100m lng, depending n where yu want t lcate the cntrller and display. Fr instance, yu may wish t have the cntrller near yur tank, and the display n an adjacent wall, r n a desk n the ppsite side f the rm, r even in anther rm entirely. *Nte: The cntrller will start up and run withut the display. The display is nly needed t make changes t the cntrller, and nce saved, it n lnger needs t remain cnnected. The nly time the cntrller will restart, is if the time is changed. Where D I Cnnect It? The fllwing pictures shw where the pwer, sensrs and prbes are cnnected. On the back f the cntrller, yu have, left t right: A green LED indicatr (pwer n) Standard 12V DC (2.1mm center pin) cnnectin fr the pwer transfrmer, if yu rdered an AC pwer bar there s a cable and jack n pwer supply t pwer up cntrller (if yu dn t have a pwer bar a standard 12V/3A transfrmer will suit, pwer supply can be higher than 3amps but shuldn t be less) USB (B) Prgramming Prt fr updates cable mst ften used t cnnect a printer t a PC Internet (RJ45) standard Cat 5 r Cat 6 patch cable, (up t 100m lng), t cnnect t yur Internet ruter 2 x SVGA cnnectrs (AC Relay 1-8 & AC Relay 9-16), t cntrl the Pwer Bards * *NOTE: yu must ensure that the SVGA cables yu use t cnnect t the Pwer bards are true, requires a cable with 10 pins cnnected straight thrugh, r they will nt wrk. Once yu have cnfigured Rb-Tank, it will cntinue t perate nrmally, if yu remve the display, it desn t have t be cnnected fr nrmal peratins. 15 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Understanding the Hme Screen This is the Hme screen fr the cntrller, and is what yu always see, after the Splash screen. If yu have 8 AC utlets cnfigured, yu will see the screen t the left, and if yu have 16 utlets cnfigured, the ne belw it. This screen can be custmized t display the infrmatin yu find mst imprtant r useful. Lking at the default screen, starting n the left, we have 3 temperatures shwing; the first ne is water temperature the secnd ne is air temperature and humidity the third is the light temperature These temperatures are updated every 5 secnds. If yu press n any f the temperatures mmentarily the temperature will disappear and yu ll see a minimum and maximum temperature fr that sensr. If yu press and hld the min/max fr 3 secnds the cntrller will beep and the min/max will be reset. The water temperature has an alarm built in, and if it ges ver the set temperature, it turns red, and if it ges under, it turns blue. The temperature will stay that clr until yu reset the alarm by pressing the water temperature icn. In the next clumn, tp, we have Current Light Mde, where yu can see the current mde the lights are in. If the cntrller is fading frm different mdes it ll shw yu what it s fading frm and t and hw lng remains fr the transitin. *This sectin can als be cnfigured t shw the lcal weather frecast fr the lcatin yu select. Belw that we have the current Feeding status, where yu can see the last time the fish were fed. When a feed cycle is running the infrmatin changes t hw much lnger the fed lasts. If yu press the fish bwl yu get the feeding screen where yu can manually feed yur fish (see belw). *This sectin can als be cnfigured t shw the 4 flw meters and their current status. In the next clumn, tp, we have the current Water Parameters. In the image abve, it s shwing the PH1. This area rtates between 10 different parameters (ph1, ph2, CO 2, ORP, DO, SAT, EC, TDS, SAL, SG), in the settings yu can change hw ften it scrlls and select any r all f the 10 different parameters t scrll. Fr example if yu nly have ph and ORP yu can select nly thse tw and the ther parameters wn t scrll. If yu press that area f the screen it scrlls t the next parameter. The minimum and maximum reading fr each parameter is als recrded and displayed, if yu press and hld that this area f the screen the min/max will be reset fr the parameter yu re currently viewing. Belw that we have the Dsing status area where yu can see the 4 different dsing pump levels, and hw many dses remain. If yu press this area it ll shw yu the ther 4 dsing pumps. At the tp f the Dsing status area, it will display if a pump is actively dsing, and in the image abve, it shws that it s currently dsing frm pump 3. On the far right we can see the 16 different AC pwer utlets, if the icn is green that utlet is n, if it s grey the utlet is ff. 16 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual If an utlet is green it means that utlet is n, if it s red that utlet is ff. If yu press the utlets area n the Hme screen yu g t the Pwer screen. If yu press any utlet using this screen that utlet will g in manual mde, all ther utlets stay in aut-mde. Any utlets that are put in manual-mde a small M will shw up n the bttm crner f the icn n hme page s yu can see if anything is running in manual-mde. If an utlet is in manual-mde its state will never change unless yu change it manually r put back in aut mde. T put it back in aut-mde yu press the Resume, n the Hme screen dck. Currently all utlets put in manual will g back t aut and the M will disappear frm the icn. Als if yu change an utlet status n the webpage it ll g it manual-mde fr that utlet, press Resume, n webpage will als set everything back t aut-mde. At the bttm f the screen there s a rw f 7 icns t navigate the cntrller, this is the Hme page dck and can be custmized t yur liking using ther available shrt cuts. Currently yu can have 2 custm dcks which can be scrlled by using the arrws next t the dck. Belw are the 7 icns that will appear when yu first receive the cntrller. Yu can find mre inf n custmizing the dck later in the manual. Resume If yu press this buttn mmentarily the cntrller resumes t the regular schedule fr all the AC pwer utlet. If a feed cycle is running the AC utlets can't be resumed until the feeding is cmplete. If yu press and hld the resume buttn fr 1 secnd the cntrller will beep nce and the lights will resume t the current schedule. Finally, if yu press and hld the resume buttn fr 5 secnds the cntrller will beep twice and d a hard reset n the AC utlets and lights. Lights This screen is where yu can set the cntrller t a temprary light mde, pressing resume buttn fr 1 secnd exits it Strm This is where yu can start the strm effect fr the lights and pwerheads, if yu press resume fr 1 secnd befre the strm ends it will exit. Graphs This is where yu can view the data lgs fr the different parameters using a bar graph r line chart. Sensrs Here yu can view all the sensr parameters attached t the cntrller, see Sensrs screen fr mre. Service Here yu can adjust the ATO settings. Settings This takes yu t the main settings page. Hme Screen Hidden Features Press the Parameters bx, and it will immediately scrll t the next parameter, s yu dn t have t wait fr it t scrll. When a temperature alarm ges ff, the temperature n the Hme screen turns blue r red, depending n whether it is ver r under temp. If yu mmentarily press n the icn beside the temperature, it will clear the alarm. If yu press the actual temperature reading n the Hme page, and hld fr 2 secnds, it will display the min/max readings since the last reset. Whilst viewing min/max reading, if yu press and hld fr 2 secnds, the display will beep and the min/max readings will be reset. S yu can run 3 water heaters independently and safely. Cntrlling Three Water Heaters Independently *NOTE: The blue text is bright and clear n the display Frm the Hme screen press: Settings > Hardware > Heaters, and yu will see the HEATER SETTINGS screen, at left, where yu can manage the 3 water heaters independently. These ptins nly shw up if yu have the heaters assigned t an AC pwer utlet in the Custmize Outlets screen. These settings tell the cntrller when t turn the heaters n r ff, when the heater is turned ff the AC pwer is cut t the heater s yu ll never verheat yur aquarium. The pwer schedules fr the heater utlets still functin hwever these settings verride it. Temperature Sensrs Calibrating Temperature Sensrs Water, Air & Light ** COMING SOON! When yu first cnnect up a temperature sensr, it will nt be perfectly accurate, ut f the bx, and as such yu will need t calibrate r cmpensate fr the variatin. It is strngly advised that yu d this as sn as yu have added the sensr. Yu can d this by using a standard spirit thermmeter, (if yu have a mercury ne, please dispse f it with yur lcal hazardus waste facility, and replace it with a spirit ne, as mercury is a neurtxin). The lnger the thermmeter, the better, (easier t read), r fr mre accuracy, a NIST cmpliant, (12 / 30cm), spirit thermmeter. Set up the thermmeter next t yur temperature sensr, leave fr 10 minutes, then bserver the reading, the difference between it and the reading yu are seeing frm the sensr, is the amunt f cmpensatin +/- yu need t apply. Be aware that ver time, the sensr will xidize and frm a depsit n the sensr, (this will happen faster fr sensrs immersed in water, than thse in air), s yu need t regularly check the accuracy f yur reading, and every 6 mnths is a gd interval t check and, if necessary, adjust the amunt f cmpensatin. Eventually, especially fr thse immersed in water, n amunt f cmpensatin will wrk, and in fact yu are mst likely t start seeing abnrmal readings frm yur temperature sensr. 21 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Dsing Pumps The cntrller is capable f cntrlling 8 DC Dsing Pumps allwing yu t fertilize yur plants r whatever yu can cme up with. Each pump has its wn set f schedules. The cntrller tracks hw many dses are remaining in each reservir, when a reservir is empty the dsing pump wn t run, press the Refill Bttle buttn when yu fill it up. Yu can als adjust the cntrller t run the same speed as yur pump. The cntrller is setup fr 12v DC pumps but can be used with 6v pumps using a DC regulatr t drp the vltage. Changing Dse Amunt and Manual Dsing Frm the Hme screen press: Settings > Dsing, and yu get the screen n the left. Here yu can adjust hw large the dse is in milliliters fr each pump and tell the cntrller yu refilled the reservir. Yu can als manually dse each pump by pressing the Manual Dse, fr that particular pump. The maximum dse amunt fr each pump is 250ml, each reservir can hld a maximum f 250 dses and the maximum reservir size is 2550ml. All this is taken int accunt when yu change yur settings. Fr example if yu have the bttle capacity set t 2000ml but yu wanted t dse 5ml, that wuld be ver the maximum amunt f dses allwed per reservir s t set 5ml yu wuld have t adjust reservir size t 1270ml r less. Press NEXT, bttm right, t view pumps 5 8. Calibrating Dsing Pumps and Reservir Capacity Frm the Hme screen press: Settings > Hardware > Dsing Pumps, and yu get the screen t the left, DOSING PUMP SETTINGS, where yu can adjust the speed and reservir capacity fr each dsing pump. First yu can adjust the Pump Rate fr each dsing pump. This is where yu calibrate each pump s they dse accurate. Fllw these steps t calibrate yur pumps. It s recmmended t use a small measuring cup, ne arund 10ml will wrk just fine. 1. Stick ne hse in a cntainer f water, the ther hse place it in r hld ver the measuring cup 2. On the Dse Settings screen set the Dse Amunt fr each pump t 10ml r the size f yur measuring cup. 3. On the screen t the left press the Manual Dse, t see hw much is pumps. If the dse is mre r less than 10ml adjust the Pump Rate n the screen abve. Repeat until yu get a 10ml dse. 4. Yu can nw set the dse amunt t the amunt f fertilizer yu wish t dse. A schedule can be set fr any time f the day and day f the week t run. Any day clumn that have an X, verifies a schedule is set and will run at that given time n that given day. time shwn. Sme examples are fertilizers and trace element additives, fr planted tanks, r a cmmercial Calcium supplement, irn r silicate supplement fr the reef tank. Yu can cntrl up t 8 magnetic stirrers individually, ne fr each dsing pump. They cnnect t LED channels These 8 channels can be used fr lights r stirrers. The future will see additinal equipment cntrlled using these channels, since mst peple DIY, and the cmmercial light units, dn't use 16 channels fr LED's. When the stirrer is enabled, n the DOSING PUMP SETTINGS screen, the slider n the LIGHT MODES screen, will be replaced with text saying "Stirrer Enabled". The stirrer will autmatically start when the dsing schedule cmes alng r yu d a manual dse, it'll run fr 30 secnds, there will be a 3 secnd pause and then the dsing pump will startup. On the DOSING PUMP SETTINGS screen t the left, yu will see at the bttm f each clumn, belw the dsing pump settings, a check bx Stirrer Disabled. This is the nly setting; t enable/disable the stirrer n the dsing pump settings page. If yu d a manual dse n this screen r the dsing pump screen it'll tell yu the stirrer is running and when the pump runs. The Hme screen als tells yu the stirrer is running, abve the dsing pumps. Each screen shws 5 rules. At the tp it'll tell yu hw many are active. If there's mre than 6 rules, press Next, bttm right hand crner, t tggle thrugh them. The rules are srted by rule type, they shw up in the same rder yu see when yu add a rule and select the parameter t use. Yu can't disable a rule, if yu dn't need it press the delete buttn and it'll will be gne. (Future update will add a feature t disable them). The CUSTOM RULES Screen, is a list f all the custm rules setup and running. At the tp it ll tell yu the ttal number f rules and the page yu re viewing. Currently 30 custm rules can be setup and running using 31 different parameters, nce the page is full an icn shws up n bttm right crner t change pages. Clumn 1 shws the parameter and value t trigger the rule with a delete buttn Clumn 2 is AC utlets (utlet number is under it). Clumn 3 is dsing pumps (5 characters f the custm name is under it). Clumn 4 is the accessry prts (the prt number is under it). Clumn 5 shws the dsing pump reset timer Clumn 6 shws the ptins t skip AC utlets based n scheduled T add a new rule, g t the bttm left hand crner, press: Add Rule. When yu press Add Rule, yu're presented with all the parameters that can be used t trigger the rule. Press the parameter yu want t set up a rule fr, and a white bx will shw up arund that parameter, press OK, t cntinue, r Cancel t quit. At the tp it'll shw yu the parameter yu selected, in this case: Set Levels Fr Humidity. Nw yu set the value fr the selected parameter t trigger the custm rule, if the actins shuld ccur if the parameter is Less Than r Greater Than the value yu set. Next yu want t select the equipment yu want t cntrl, if an icn is grey that means n actin will be taken, if it s green it will turn n and if it s red it ll turn ff. Yu can scrll thrugh the ptins fr each piece f equipment by pressing the icns. Yu'll als see an ptin, center right, Dsing Pump Reset Timer. This is an imprtant setting if yu want t dse using the rules. If yu select a dsing pump t run yu can als set a timer s that dsing pump desn t run again until that time has expired, this is gd if the rule cnditins ccur befre this time frame expires the dsing pump wn t run again. Fr example, withut this if a flat switch was being used fr a rule and it was flipped a cuple times in a rw the dsing pump wuld run twice. With this ptin yu can set a timer s the dsing pumps dn't run again n matter what the parameter reads until the timer has expired. The timer can be set frm minutes (12 hurs) s it wuld never dse mre than twice a day. If a rule is setup using a dsing pump and the cntrller is restarted the dsing pump wn't run until the sensr is flipped bth ways. Yu can als add an ptin t the AC utlets fr better cntrl, these are lcated at the bttm right crner f screen, Skip Outlet Actins if Outlet Schedule is Running and Skip Outlet Actins if Outlet Schedule is Nt Running. If yu select Skip Outlet Actins if Outlet Schedule is Running the custm rule will nt affect the selected utlets if a schedule is currently running. Fr example, if yu wanted t turn a fan ff if the air temperature went abve 70 degrees but had a schedule running that had that fan turned n the fan wuldn t turn ff unless the schedule wasn t running. If yu select Skip Outlet Actins if Outlet Schedule is Nt Running it will nt affect the selected utlets if n schedule is running. These ptins allw fr mre cmplex cntrl if yu want t tie schedules and custm rules in ne. Then yu select any f the AC utlets, dsing pumps r accessry prts t cntrl. Each rule can nly turn n/ff 8 pieces f equipment as the list page gets messy with t many icns but in the unlikely event yu need mre equipment n the rule create a 2 nd r 3 rd rule using the same cnditins. 26 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Prt Assignment - Assigning Hardware Prts t Sensrs/Equipment Frm the Hme screen, press: Settings > Hardware > Prt Assignments, and yu will see the PORT ASSIGNMENTS screen, at left, where yu can custmize sme f the prts fr different sensrs and equipment. Overtime mre ptins will be available here as mre equipment is added and verified. When yu use these prts be sure t set the crrect sensr type r equipment type. as well). Prt 6-9: is fr the 4 spare temperature sensrs. They can be a DS18B20 temperature sensr r DHT22 temperature/humidity sensr. (Future - add the ptin s they can read an analg/digital sensr Prt 10-13: are the 4 accessry prts. The ptin selected affects the Grund pins n each f thse prts. If DC Accessry is selected the Grund pin is switched n/ff via the cntrller which turns DC accessries n r ff. If Pwerhead is selected the Grund pin is always turned n, in effect becming a regular grund pin. The prt has a 12v pin but yu can easily use a 6v r 24v external pwer surce if needed. This pin is PWM s it'll als be able t change the speed f fans, etc. There's als a pin available n each prt that can put ut a digital r analg signal t cntrl digital pwerheads like the Jeba r Tunze. Technically yu can cntrl 12 pieces f equipment n the 4 prts. Tday it will nly turn n/ff ne f the pins n each prt using a custm rule but t use that feature yu need this ptin set t DC Accessry. Prt 14-17: are the 4 ther device prts but n settings available, currently yu add yur flw meters here. Future releases will add ther devices. Prt 18-22: are fr the 5 analg sensr prts, currently this ptins allws yu t chse if yu re using a digital sensr r analg sensr. *Nte: When an analg sensr is checked is reads it 3 times, the last value is stred and the final reading is the mst cmmn number ut f 10 readings. If yu have the Flw meters displayed n the Hme screen, press that, r if yu have it n ne f the Hme screen Dcks press that, and yu will see the screen n the left FLOW METERS. On this page yu see the flw per minute and flw per hur in either liters r gallns. Yu can switch between them by pressing the right-hand bttm crner. On the meter is a cunter which displays the ttal liters r gallns that went thrugh the meter. This is stred n the SD card every minute s after a restart it will cntinue. Yu can reset the meter by pressing and hlding Reset n the meter fr half a secnd. *NOTE: The actual meters n the screen display dn't have the cmmas in the cunter. Frm the Hme screen press: Settings > Hardware > Flw Meters, and yu will see the screen t the left, FLOW METER SETTINGS. On this page yu can select the measurement type, hme page view and a calibratin value fr each flw meters. Yu als see the current amunt flwing s when yu adjust things yu dn't need t leave the screen. If yu change the measurement type t gallns the labels and flw will update t match. Calibrating Flw meters Mst flw meters have an F value, they call that the calibratin factr I believe. Typically this is 4.5 but I have seen sme with 5.5. I'm hping the calibratin value is based n that hwever mine say 4.5 but n the cntrller I have it set t 4.8. Nt sure if it s the cheap flw meter r cde but it s best t measure yur pump t get a prper value. The easiest way t d that is get 2-5 galln buckets. Fill ne with water and then run the pump fr 60 secnds and turn ff, be sure yu have the flw meter cnnected as this culd change hw much is pumped in 60 secnds. Then measure hw much water was pumped in the bucket. Let s say yu pump 6.2L in that 60 secnds. Nw yu can run the pump and adjust the calibratin value n this screen until the flw value in L/min matches what yu measured. Setting the LED Intensity fr Each Daily Light Mde Frm the Hme screen press: Settings > Lights, and yu get the screen t the left, LIGHT MODES frm where yu can adjust the light intensity fr each f the 16 channels fr the 4 daily light mdes. The cntrller has 4 different light mdes it cycles thrugh each day, High Sun, Mid Sun, Lw Sun and Mn r Night. The 4 light mdes are n the left side, yu can tggle between the mdes by pressing the respected buttn fr each ne. When yu change mdes the sliders will autmatically g t the values yu selected fr that particular mde. At the tp f each slider it says either Lw End r High End, press this area and the slider range changes. High range allws yu t adjust the LED intensity frm 0 (ff) t 4095 (full brightness). If yu select lw range the slider adjust frm 0 (ff) t 255 (dim) allwing yu t fine tune the lights at the lwest brightness. Use the sliders t adjust the values fr each channel, the screen shws 8 channels, t mdify the ther 8 channels, press Ch 9 Ch 16 in the bttm right hand crner. At the tp left crner there's a buttn, Test Mdes, if yu press this the cntrller will cycle yur 24hr cycle in 1 minute s yu can see the effect. Please nte the transitin is smther when it des s in nrmal time. If yu have 0 fr mn and 4095 fr lw sun it will skip sme f the increments as it transitins each schedule in 15 secnds. *NOTE: On channel 9-16 if yu have a dsing pump stirrer setup the slider will be replaced with a label shwing which stirrer is enabled Custmizing the LED Slider Clrs *NOTE: The blue text is bright and clear n the display Frm the Hme screen press: Settings > Custmize > Sliders, and yu get the CUSTOMIZE SLIDER COLORS screen t the left, fr custmizing the LED slider clrs. Yu can chse frm 8 different clrs and assign ne f them t each f the 16 LED channels. Press the channel number yu want t change and it ll turn white as seen n the left. Then select the clr yu want fr that particular channel and the channel text clr will change t match what yu selected. This is useful s yu dn t frget what clrs are n each channel. Using the temprary light mde bypasses the daily light schedule. When yu enter the screen the sliders g t the current LED intensity fr each channel, if yu adjust them the light intensity changes. Press the Set Temprary Light Mde, in the bttm left hand crner t keep the lights in this mde. If yu dn t press that buttn and exit the screen the lights resume t hw they were. will exit the temprary light mde and return t the nrmal mde. Pressing Resume n the Hme screen fr 1 secnd Yu can als change the range f the sliders frm Lw t High as discussed abve. View the Schedule fr Each Daily Light Mde Frm the hme screen press Settings > Schedules > Lights and yu get the LIGHT SCHEDULE screen where yu can view the schedules fr each f the 4 daily light mdes. Yu can see n the left that the lights cme n at 11:00am and start transitining frm Night t Lw Sun, this means the cntrller slwly brightens frm Night mde t Lw Sun mde, in this case it will take 1 hur and 30 minutes befre the lights hit the intensity values selected fr Lw Sun mde, this will happen at 12:30pm. Then the lights stay at the Lw Sun intensity until 1:31pm when the lights start transitining frm Lw Sun t Mid Sun which takes 1 minute this time, this is quite extreme as an example. The lights nw stay in the Mid Sun mde until 2:02pm when they start transitining t High Sun and takes 30 minutes t cmplete. They nw stay at High Sun until 7:00pm and start transitining back dwn t Mid Sun, this takes 1 Hur. Then it ges frm Mid Sun t Lw Sun starting at 11:00pm and lasts fr 30 minutes and finally at 11:31 it starts transitining back t Night, it shuts ff cmpletely at 1:31am. This is the cycle that will run daily, if yu press any ne f the 6 transitins yu can adjust the start time and length f time, the transitin runs fr. On the left the transitin starts at 7:45pm and runs fr 1 hur and 15 minutes. Feeding Cycle Settings Frm the Settings screen yu can access the FEED SETTINGS screen, shwn n the left. There's 2 different views fr the feed setting screen depending hw many AC utlets yu have. If yu nly have 8 AC utlets yu'll see the tp image, if yu have 16 AC utlets yu'll see the next image. On this screen yu can select which utlets turn n/ff while yur fish are being feed. If the utlet icn is green the pwer will be turned n when a feed cycle happens if it isn't already. If the utlet icn is gray it will turn ff the utlet during the feed cycle. Yu can als select hw lng the feed cycle will last. In the image its set t 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the AC utlets g t the regular schedule. Yu have the ptin f using the aut feeder r manually feeding yur fish. Press the checkbx t enable r disable it. When the aut feeder is disabled the AC utlets still turn n/ff based n yur selectins. Yu can als custmize each f the AC utlet icns n the cntrller s yu never frget what yu have plugged in r get cnfused with what yu're trying t cntrl. There's als a setting t change between 8 r 16 AC utlets, if yu have it n 8 any screens n the cntrller will nly shw 8 utlets, if yu have 16 utlets selected yu'll see all 16. The cntrller has a smart startup rutine where it checks all the schedules n startup and sets each utlet t the mde it shuld be in at that given time. If the pwer ges ut during the day but cmes back n at night the cntrl knws this and resumes in night mde. Each AC utlets have 10 schedules that can be set fr any r all days f the week. Custmizing AC Pwer Outlet Icns Frm the Hme screen, press: Settings > Custmize > Outlets, and yu will see the screen t the left, the CUSTOMIZE OUTLETS screen, where yu can custmize the icn fr each f the pwer utlets. This is useful fr navigating the cntrller, s yu wn t be cnfused as t what equipment is plugged int which utlet. Press any f the utlets n the first tw rws and it will disappear, next press ne f the icns n the bttm rw in green and the cntrller nw knws what s plugged in. Fr example if yu had a heater plugged in utlet 2 as seen n the left, the cntrller will turn the relay n/ff when the water temperature changes. If yu change the heater t utlet 6, that utlet will nw turn n/ff based n the water temperature s it s imprtant t put the heaters n the crrect utlets. If yu dn t have a heater assigned yu wn t be able t view the heater settings. At the bttm in the middle yu have the ptin f 8 r 16 utlets, if yu chse 8 nly 8 utlet icns will be visible thrughut the cntrller. The pwer icns n the Hme screen will always be green if n and gray if ff, when an utlet is put in manual mde (by ging t the pwer page and manually changing if it s n/ff) a red M will shw up n the icn in the tp left hand crner, s yu can easily see if the utlet is n r ff and if it s in manual mde. When an utlet runs in manual mde nthing will turn it n/ff, all the schedules and rules are ignred. This is gd if yu d maintenance and turn smething ff yu dn't need t wrry abut it cming n by surprise. When yu press Resume, n the Hme screen, (bttm left), all the AC utlets g back t the mde based n the daily schedules, then a cuple secnds later, the custm rules will update the utlets based n them. A schedule can be set fr any time f the day and day f the week t run. Any day clumn that has an X, verifies a schedule is set and will run at that given time n that given day. If a schedule number has n X under any f the days that schedule is disabled and wn t run at the time shwn. schedule 2 culd be set fr 11am it wn t make any difference. These schedules dn t need t be in rder, fr example schedule 1 culd be set t run a 4pm and T setup a new schedule press any f the 10 rws and yu ll g t the screen belw, where yu can set the time the schedule runs and which days t run it n. On this screen, in this case fr Outlet 4 Air Pump - Schedule 5, yu setup/adjust what time, and which days f the week the schedule will run. When yu are ready t return t aut mde, press Resume, n the dck, bttm left f the Hme screen r n the webpage, and all the AC utlets will resume aut mde. 36 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Strm Mde with Lightning Effects The cntrller has a strm mde feature which allws yu t have a lightning shw running and have the pwerheads create mre turbulence (pwerhead cntrl being added). The strm starts by dimming the lights t a level yu select, based n the settings yu select the cntrller randmly chses hw lng the transitin runs and when the lightning starts. Once the lights reach the level yu selected fr the strm the lightning begins, based n settings the cntrller randmly selects hw lng the strm will last. Yu can select any channels ut the 16 that lightning actually ccurs frm, this is useful if yu have red r green LED s n a specific channel but dn t want red r green lightning. Once yu select yur channels the cntrller randmly strikes lightning n thse selected channels. Yu can als adjust the lightning intensity and time between lightning strikes, based n yur settings the cntrller is randm. When the lightning is running yu may get flashes frm 1 r 2 channels. Fr example channel 7 & 10 might g ff at the same time but different speeds and intensities r channel 6 might g ff by itself, this helps give it a realistic effect. When the strm is ver the lights gradually cme back t the current light mde fr that time f the day. The hme screen has different icns telling yu when it s cluding ver, strming and clearing. If yu run the strm with the lights in night mde the cntrller takes this int cnsideratin and desn t run the dimming and ges right t the lightning shw. The intensity is als much lwer s yu dn t freak ut any f yur fishy friends. T run the strm press the Strm, n the Hme screen. Setting Up the Strm Mde Frm the Hme screen, press: Settings > Weather, and yu get the screen n the left. This is where yu adjust the strm effects. In the middle clumn yu can set the Length f Strm, this is hw lng the actual lightning runs and desn t include the time it takes t get t the lightning. Yu can set a lw and high number, the cntrller will then randmly select a time between the tw settings. The bttm number must be larger r the same as the tp number. Next we have Select Channels fr Lightning Strikes, this is where we select the channels we want lightning t strike. If the bx is checked lighting will ccur n that channel, if the bx is uncheck n lightning will ccur n that specific channel. In the first clumn we have 3 buttns at the tp. First the clud target buttn which takes t yu a screen t adjust the intensity level f the LED s fr the strm. Next is Custmize, this takes yu t anther screen with mre settings. The last buttn is Stp Strm and its red, this is because a strm is currently running. Yu can stp the strm here and start it up again. This is useful when yu adjusting the settings. If the strm is running and yu change a setting it wn t affect the current strm, yu need t stp and restart it fr the changes t take effect. The cntrller has a Lunar/Mn Phase Simulatin mde available. This is used t mimic the brightness f the lights based n the brightness f the mn. If there s a full mn the lights are brightest at night and when there s n mn the lights are dark. T use this feature turn it n and make sure yur mn light mde is set t at least 30 intensity fr the LED channels yu want lite at night. They need t be set t 30 because there are 30 days in the mnth r s. If yu nly want ne LED channel lite fr the mn light set it t 30 intensity and all the ther channels t 0. If yu dn t want the mn light running all night yu can set a schedule n the AC utlet fr yur LED lights t turn ff when yu want the mn light ff. Here yu adjust hw the lightning flashes and hw lng the clud ver and clear lasts. In the first clumn we have Lightning Strike Intensity which allws yu t adjust the brightness f the flashes. The +1, +2, +3 and +4 are multipliers fr the number. +4 at 255 is the highest setting, +1 at 0 is the lwest. The cntrller randmly selects a number between the tw fr the flash intensity s it s always different. The next clumn is fr adjusting the Time between Lightning Strikes, there are tw settings, a lw and high, the cntrller randmly chses between the tw numbers. The final clumn is fr adjusting the Clud Duratin, this is hw lng it takes t transitin t the strm brightness and then return t the regular lighting schedule after the lightning is ver. The first and last icn are lcked as these are required functins. The tp rw f icns are the shrtcuts available t place n the dck, mre will be added in the future. T change the dck press the icn n the dck yu want t change. The icn will disappear leaving a black space, nw yu can select the shrtcut yu want t place there. The first setting is Return Hme after Last Tuch, this tells the cntrller when t return back t the hme screen after being left idle. Next is Scrll Hme Screen Parameters, this setting tells the cntrller hw ften t scrll thrugh the different water parameters at the bttm f the screen. changes all the temperature views t Celsius r Fahrenheit. Here yu can view all the current weather parameters fr the area yu selected, yu can view current temperature, humidity, pressure, visibility, clud cver, wind speed, wind gusts, wind directin, sunrise & sunset times, and the time f weather bservatin. It ll als display the current cnditins ut f 73 different pssibilities. At the bttm left crner yu ll see the gegraphic crdinates fr actual weather cnditins being displayed. T change the selected lcatin, press: Current Lcatin, and yu will see the screen belw, where yu can enter in a new lcatin. Here yu can adjust the lcatin fr the current weather cnditins yu want t display, yu can chse anywhere in the wrld, by simply entering its gegraphic c-rdinates, (which yu can get frm several sites; Ggle Maps, t name a few). When yu have the gegraphic crdinates fr yur lcatin press the latitude label, the current latitude will disappear and yu can enter in the new latitude part f the crdinates. After yu enter in the latitude, press the save buttn and d the same with the lngitude. If yu make a mistake entering in the new lcatin yu can press clear and start ver. After yu set the lcatin yu shuld als adjust the UTC Offset, left side f the screen, t match the lcatin yu selected. Yu can find this inf by typing in the lcatin and UTC ffset, int Ggle, and yu ll get the ffset value yu need. Ding this will adjust the sunrise/sunset times t match that lcatin. There s audi and visual alerts lcally, the display has a small but lud buzzer that ges ff when a water parameter ges ut f range. Each f the parameters has its wn vlume level yu can adjust r disable the sund all tgether. There s als a lt f web alerts received via , these instant alerts can be checked frm yur mbile phne, tablet r cmputer. NOTE: Mre audi/visual and alerts will be cming sn. Audi and Visual Alerts Frm the hme screen press: Settings > Audi Alerts, see the ALERT SETTINGS screen, at left, where yu can adjust the audi and visual alerts fr different parameters. On the left side there s five clumns f buttns fr each f the parameters, press the parameter yu wish t adjust and the screen will refresh fr that specific parameter. Adjust the Vlume slider t a suitable level, 0 = ff. high level alarm must be higher r the same as the lw level alarm. Adjust the Lw Level and High Level alarm threshlds t a number that suits yur setup. The When the alert is triggered the buzzer will start buzzing, if the parameter ges ver the high level threshld the readut n the display will turn red, it ll turn blue if the parameter ges under the lw level threshld. Setting up the Autmatic Tp-ff (ATO) System Frm the Hme screen if yu press: Service, yu get the screen n the left. These are the basic settings fr the ATO system. Yu can select a water level when the pump is activated and hw ften the cntrller checks the water level. The ATO system uses a flat switch fr detecting the water level and a backup flat switch is tied in fr security. If yu have an Arduin based analg water sensr yu can use it in place f the main flat switch. The ATO Water Level setting nly applies if yu re using an analg water sensr n the main ATO prt, this adjusts hw sensitive the analg sensr reacts. If yu re using a flat switch n the main ATO prt any value can be set. Next is the Check Water Level setting, here yu can adjust hw ften the main ATO prt reads the water level. If 0 is selected the ATO system ges in test mde. This bypasses the timers s yu can test the system. When in test mde the water level is checked every 5 secnds and the startup delay is bypassed. Next is the Maximum ATO Run Time setting, here yu can adjust the maximum time the pump is allwed t run when the ATO starts up. This is a malfunctin feature which ensures n flding ccurs if the main and backup sensr fail. If the pump runs lnger than the Maximum ATO Run Time the pump will stp running and the ATO system will be disabled, the ATO icn under the date in the header will turn red and an will be sent telling yu infrming yu that the ATO malfunctined. Once this happens the ATO is disabled cmpletely until yu manually reset it n the display. T d this, yu press the red ATO icn under the date, a screen will shw up and ask yu if yu want t reset the ATO, press OK and the icn shuld turn grey. Nw yu can test the system again and ensure things are wrking crrectly. Running the Autmatic Tp-ff (ATO) System Once the ATO is setup it runs in the backgrund, during nrmal peratin the main ATO sensr needs t recgnize a lw water level fr 30 minutes befre the pump starts, this ensures randm waves r disturbances dn t affect it. Once the pump starts the ATO icn under the date will turn green verifying the pump is running and will stay green until the pump turns ff. 50 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Atlas-Scientific Prbes Rb-Tank uses the Atlas-Scientific EZO circuits, t interface with the cntrller, and as such yu can use mst manufacturer s prbes, as lng as they use a standard BNC cnnectr. Yu can use prbes frm the mre expensive American Marine Pinpint & Neptune Systems Apex prbes, t the reasnably priced BRS and Atlas prbes, thrugh t the cheaper nes fund n ebay, (thugh the quality and life expectancy may be significantly less with the ebay nes). These circuits, handle the lad f any calculatins required, fr example the EZO EC circuit calculates the TDS and Salinity values frm a reading, and simply passes thse values t the cntrller, reducing the prcessing lad n the cntrller itself. Up t 2 ph prbes, and single ORP, Disslved Oxygen, and Electrical Cnductivity prbe can be mnitred and graphed, and alerted n. Cnnecting Atlas Circuits *Refer t: Cnnecting Atlas Scientific Circuits (V2 RevB) Adding a Prbe Frm the Hme screen, press Settings > Hardware > Atlas-Scientific Prbes, here yu re able t select and calibrate yur prbes. Calculating CO 2 using ph and KH values Yu can als mnitr CO 2 levels using either f the ph circuits, but nly frm ne f them. As there is n prbe currently available t autmatically mnitr KH, (r if there is, it s extremely expensive), t display the CO2 cncentratin, yu must manually enter the KH value frm the latest KH water test yu perfrmed. Enter in the KH value, (frm using a standard basic KH test kit), n the screen abve, in the area t the bttm left, using the up r dwn arrws. Swirl it arund t eliminate any trapped air, leave it in the slutin fr 1:30 minutes t stabilize, and then press OK. Imprtant - Calibrating a DO prbe using a 0mg/L Calibratin Slutin As this is a 0mg/L Oxygen slutin, and Oxygen is all arund us, and the slutin has been designed t chemically absrb xygen, nce it is pened, the test slutin has been expsed t xygen and will slwly stp wrking. Inside each bttle f calibratin slutin is a small amunt f nitrgen gas that helps t displace xygen ut f the bttle during the filling prcess. When the DO prbe is remved frm the bttle. Oxygen will enter the bttle and begin t disslve int the slutin. In rder t slw dwn this prcess, fill the vid space f the bttle with any gas, (ther than xygen) t preserve the calibratin slutin. Fr safety reasns avid flammable gases, if at all pssible. If anther suitable gas is unbtainable, yu can use the gas frm a prtable lighter. Fr a 2 Pint Calibratin, yu use a suitable calibratin slutin, ne f each f Lw and High, which yu will have selected n the CALIBRATE ATLAS PROBE screen. 59 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual General System & Internet Settings Frm the hme screen, press: Settings > System, and yu will see the SYSTEM SETTINGS screen, t the left, where yu re able t adjust different settings fr the cntrller, this includes the ability t set the display brightness and aut-brightness feature, restre default vales and sync the system. There s als sme settings and infrmatin fr the Lcal Netwrk/Internet cnnectin. Sync System, tp left crner, is used t sync the display with the pwer bar. This is handy if yu discnnected the display frm the pwer bar and adjusted the settings. When yu sync the system all the settings in the display are sent t the pwer bar. Synchrnizing the Display with the Cntrller When yu press: Sync System, n the screen abve left, yu will get the SYNC SYSTEM screen, at left, where yu can sync the display and cntrller. This is a step by step prcess, and when yu press YES yu see a prgress bar indicating the system is syncing. Upn cmpletin, it cnfirms sync has cmpleted, and yu can exit. This will restre all the settings in the cntrller t the default values, this is hw yu received it. After yu press YES the screen ges blank fr abut 30 secnds and tells yu if it was successful. Please be patient while it s ding this. Aut-Dim Level & Aut-Dim after Last Tuch Ging back t the SYSTEM SETTINGS screen, yu can als adjust the brightness f the display using the 3 different settings. The Aut-Dim Level, tp center, decides hw much t dim the cntrller based n yur lighting cnditins. The setting is frm 0 25, if its set t 0 the aut-dim feature will be turned ff, if its set t 1 the display will g cmpletely dark n matter the lighting cnditins f the rm. The higher yu set the number the less it will dim. Yu can set hw lng the display takes t dim after yur last tuch. This is the infrmatin needed t access the cntrller s web page lcally and remtely. The Lcal IP address is what yu type in yur brwser if yu viewing it at hme n yur lcal netwrk. Fr example using the lcal IP address shwn n the screen t the left: When yu re away frm hme yu need t access the web page remtely, use the external IP address in a brwser Fr example using the external IP address in the screen abve: *NOTE1: The external IP address used as an example here is just that, it is nt real, as IPV4 addresses have an address range f t *NOTE2: yu will need t check the manual fr yur mdem/ruter t make the necessary cnfiguratin changes t it, t allw remte http access t the cntrller. This is usually quite simple, setting up what is called a prt re-directin fr http t g t prt 7626, which is the prt used t access the web page n the cntrller. Yu cnfigure the mdem/ruter t redirect it t the Lcal IP f the cntrller, in the example t the left that wuld be n prt T setup the Arduin Username & Passwrd fr remte & lcal access t the web page, yu have tw chices, press Generate User + Pass, which will generate them, fr yu, write them t the apprpriate files & display it fr yu t nte dwn (remember memrize it and destry, never keep usernames and passwrds written dwn, unless stred in a Crypt Safe ). *Generate User + Pass will be remved in a future update, when the n-screen keybard is intrduced. Alternatively yu can set yur wn custm username and passwrd, in which case yu will need t edit tw files, in the rt directry n the cntrller s micrsd card: user.txt and pass.txt. In user.txt, simply replace username1 with the username f yur chice, (must be 9 characters) In pass.txt, simply replace passwrd1 with the passwrd f yur chice, (must be 9 characters) *NOTE: yu can use any mix f letters, (lwer and upper case), numbers and special characters. Fr Rb-Tank t get a Lcal IP address, yu need t have yur lcal netwrk cnfigured t use DHCP (which is typically default), t assign IP addresses t lcal devices n the netwrk autmatically. If yu haven t set this up, refer t yur mdem/ruter manual n hw t cnfigure it. Mst DHCP set ups allw yu t pre-cnfigure an IP address t be assigned t a specific device, s that each time yu restart it, it will always have the same IP address, again, check yur manual. *Cming sn: n screen keybard access t enter a fixed IP address f yur chice, rather than rely n DHCP. T get the External IP address, simply press Retrieve Netwrk Inf, and Rb-Tank will retrieve that frm yur mdem/ruter and cnfigure that fr yu. Yu can set hw ften the cntrller checks yur external IP, using Check External IP Address Every, bttm left, as this may change frm time t time. When it changes yu ll get an alert n yur phne if yu have it setup. **Rb-Tank checks it is cnnected t the Internet, by pinging a Ggle server every 10 minutes, if a ping fails, the cntrller will attempt t re-cnnect t the internet. 62 Rb-Tank DIY All-In-One Aquarium Cntrller User Manual Graphs & Lgs Rb-Tank cllects multiple sensr, prbe & equipment data, which is lgged and the majrity f which, can be displayed in custmized graphs. There's a ttal f 22 graphs, and ne lg, ne fr each f the parameters that can be currently read and recrded, and a lg f equipment status changes. Graph Features Graphs use an aut-ranging feature, s when a graph is laded it finds the minimum and maximum value in all the data and draws the graph based n that. Fr example if yu viewed a mnth f water temperatures and the min was and max was the graph wuld nly shw thse ranges. The graphs can handle any value frm 0 t The min value in the graph is always 10 pixels frm the bttm s yu can see the difference frm the min value and a n value reading (if sensr was unplugged). Yu can zm in/ut f the graph. If yu were viewing the water temp and it displayed and yu zmed ut the graph wuld shw values frm Every time yu zm-ut the maximum value ges up by ne which cmpresses the graph s yu can see the curve smthed fr the respective time frame being viewed. T zm in n a graph, press the right side f the graph, and t zm ut press the left side f the graph. This is the nly setting nt saved t eeprm s nce yu restart the cntrller the view will be restred frm where yu started. Currently same zm level effect all graphs. Data can be viewed based n day, week, bi-weekly and mnthly. When yu view mnthly the date range at the tp will change t 28, 29, 30 r 31 days based n mnth. If it s a leap year it will shw up during that day, ther than that yu wn't see the 29th when yu view a mnth but can still view it in all ther views. (Fix cming sn). The graph style can be changed frm bar t line. The graph is updated every 8 minutes 35 secnds, if yu are viewing a graph it will aut update when new data is lgged. There's als n limit n hw much data can be stred and viewed, it s based n the memry card. A 4 GB card will prbably hld mre than yu want. I've setup the display t shw the last 10 years but that can easily be changed. Viewing Graphs & Lgs Frm the Hme screen press: Graphs, and yu get the screen t the left. Frm here yu chse which graph t view. *NOTE: when yu add a custm label, t any f the temperature r humidity sensrs, it is autmatically updated n this screen, fr instance, yu might change Temperature Tw t Sump Temperature, (t display the temperature in yur sump), it will update n this screen, and n any ther screen, where it is displayed. Belw the Sensr Reading, yu can change the graph view, switching between Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly and Mnthly. Under thse settings, yu can Enable/Disable a Vertical Grid, (Check bx). Under the graph, yu'll see different buttns fr scrlling thrugh the data, t lk at the Previus Week, r Next Week (if yu ve scrlled back), and t return t current data, press: This Week. *NOTE: These buttns change depending n the graph type yur viewing, fr example if yur viewing a Daily graph the buttns change t Previus Day, Next Day, Tday, Previus Week and Next Week. At the bttm left, yu can select the graph style, chsing between bar r line graph. Next t this yu can see the dates yu're currently viewing. Equipment Lg Press Hardware, n the GRAPHS AND LOGS screen, and yu will see the screen t the left, EQUIPMENT LOG. This is a detailed recrd f the equipment type, time (recrds 24hr frmat but displays accrding t settings) and the actin that was taken. This will lg all the majr equipment such as the AC utlets, dsing pumps, lights, aut feeder and ATO system. Later I'll be adding the ther equipment prts. was turned n manually, via schedule r via a custm rule. When an utlet is switched n/ff the lg will reprt the utlet number with utlet type, the time it happened and if it was turned n r ff and if it The same will happen when a dsing pump starts, it'll recrd pump number with custm name and hw it was activated. When a dsing pump stps it will als recrd that event. Fr the lights, it recrds when a transitin starts and if the lights were put in the temprary mde. A recrd is created with the ATO starts and stps and if it malfunctins. It'll als recrd when the cntrller is restarted and if the resume buttn is pressed. Each day's actins are stred in a single file, the file name is the date. The page shws the ttal actins fr the day and yu can view 16 actins per page. I currently set the limit t 256 actins fr a day but that can be easily increased if needed. If it ges ver 256 actins it'll still recrd the event it just can't be viewed. Yu can respnd t these, via the web page, turning an AC utlet (device) n r ff, and even resuming aut-mde. The webpage is split int 3 clumns. These clumns all cllapse int 2 clumns r a single clumn depending the size f screen n the device yu use t view the webpage, making it cmpatible with all devices. The 1st clumn shws the current light mde the cntrller is in, if a transitin is ccurring it ll shw the mdes it s transitining and hw much time is remaining. Under this is a fish bwl with a FEED FISH buttn, if yu press this the Aut Feeder will run. The maximum feedings per day is 5 and can nly be reset n the cntrller if yu g ver the 5 feedings. The 2nd clumn shws all the sensr data. The 3rd clumn shws all the AC utlets and the current state, yu can press these buttns t turn an utlet n r ff. If yu use the webpage t turn an utlet n/ff it ll g in Manual Mde and stay in that mde until yu press Resume Aut Mde. This will put all AC utlets back in aut mde. At the bttm f the page yu can view a webcam if yu have an IP cmpatible camera. This des require sme setup, and befre setting this up yu shuld ensure yur camera is wrking and yu can view it using a brwser. *NOTE: Until yu set up yur webcam, the ptin t view it will nt appear n the page, thugh sme brwsers may shw a small X there. Setting up Access t Yur Web Cam On the cntrller s SD card, find and pen the file: index.html, with a file editr.
