7 Alarm and Event Lgs n SafetyNet SafetyNet stres internal lg entries fr each alarms and events that ccurs. These are tw separate lgs with up t 20 entries f each. When the lg reaches mre than 20 entries, the ldest entry is remved and the latest added. Therefre, at any given time it is able t review the last 20 entries f alarms and events. T keep a recrd f the alarms and events, we recmmend a print f the table r cpy and paste the table t a file (eg: t Ntepad) frequently. T view the alarm r event lg click n Alarm & Events buttn given n the Viewer interface. Each lg entry cnsists a time stamp and a descriptin f the alarm r the event. Fr sensr related alarms it will include the sensr label in its descriptin fr better identificatin. 7.1 Alarm Lg Any sensr related alarm activatin r clearance wuld be lgged in the alarm lg. If analgue sensrs are installed, and they were faulty r discnnected it will als be lgged in the alarm lg. Analgue sensr alarms will be lgged indicating what threshld value it reached. Other items that are lgged in the alarm lg are 240V mains failure and activatin, as well as lw battery warning and f its clearance. SafetyNet by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSSN 10/04

The alarm lg cntains a clumn fr indicating the SMS status. 35 8 Operatin f SafetyNet 8.1 Basic Operatin SafetyNet will cnstantly mnitr installed sensrs. It is able t ntify any alarm cnditin via several ntificatin methds thse being; SNMP traps, SMS messages, visually n the web interface, activatin f relays, blinking blue LED n the unit, an ptinal strbe and an ptinal buzzer. Any alarm r event will be lgged, as an entry in its alarm and event lg viewable at any given time. These lgs can be cleared upn request by the web interface. SafetyNet will wrk ut the average analgue sensr data fr data pltting. This data is stred lcally and is shwn when the required graph is requested. Data can be cleared upn request by the web interface. SafetyNet is backed by an internal battery, which lasts fr apprximately 2.5 hurs if main A/C pwer is nt present. The internal battery is capable f running the sensrs, the strbe and the buzzer at 12V DC. Users must nt attempt t replace this battery at any stage. SafetyNet relays are driven at 12V DC. Any sensr that is uninstalled r inactive will nt be mnitred. T disable an existing sensr simply set it as uninstalled, which will then be disregarded as an active sensr. 8.2 Sensrs Only sensrs supplied by Cmputer Supprt Systems may be used with SafetyNet. The types f sensrs that are allwed are: - 2 x analgue sensrs (temperature r humidity) 1 x fluid sensr 1 x smke sensr 4 x digital sensrs (cntact sensrs; als cnfigurable as fluid r smke alarms fr having multiple f these alarms) These are all standard RJ45 cnnectin type sensrs and cnnected t the rear panel f SafetyNet Temperature and Humidity Sensrs These are specifically designed t use with SafetyNet. Features f these sensrs are Small physical size allws munting in standard wall plate in single r dual cnfiguratins. Temperature and Humidity sensrs can be cmbined in single wall plate. High accuracy and lng-term reliability. Can be run up t 50m frm SafetyNet using a standard CAT 5 cable. Excellent nise immunity. Rbust, sealed cnstructin. Self-testing; SafetyNet raises an alert f sensr is faulty. Immune t mst airbrne industrial cntaminants Fluid Detectrs These sensrs are intended t be used anywhere where water r misture can intervene nrmal peratin f the envirnment. Features f fluid sensrs are SafetyNet by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSSN 10/04

Exclusive mat design fr detecting surface water n flrs, cabinet bases, etc Self-resets nce fluid is remved. Excellent electrical nise immunity and lng term reliability. Beep sund when fluid is detected frm the sensr itself. An ptin f having a hard metal cver installed fr industrial safety Smke Detectrs These sensrs will cnstantly mnitr any smke presence n the premises. LED indicatin is activated when smke is present. A manual acknwledgement f the sensr is required if triggered. This is perfrmed by simply turning the sensr anti-clck wise, and un-latching the situatin. The smke sensr wrks n a Nrmally Clsed (clsed circuit) methdlgy. Hence, if discnnected frm SafetyNet, an alarm is raised Digital Sensrs Digital sensrs are cntact clsure sensrs, and are capable f detecting pen circuits r clsed circuits. At the time f cnfiguring digital sensrs it is able t specify the sensr be Nrmally Open r Nrmally Clsed. Each sensr carries a trigger delay up t 120 secnds. This is als set at the time f installing the sensr n the Sensr/Relay Cnfiguratin Interface. Fr example, if yu set yur trigger delay t be 30 secnds, an alarm is raised nly if the digital sensr is active fr 30 secnds r mre. This feature eliminates any spikes that culd ccur in the mnitred envirnment Using Digital Sensr Inputs as Fluid r Smke Sensrs Yu can use digital sensr inputs as fluid r smke type sensrs t increase the number f fluid r smke sensrs than ne f each. Use the belw settings t use a digital sensr input as a fluid type sensr Set the type as Fluid Set the trigger delay as 10 secnds User a meaningful sensr label Set as Nrmally Open r Clsed based n the sensr type. Sample illustrated in image belw. SafetyNet by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSSN 10/04

T set the digital sensr as a smke alarm, then use settings belw. Set the type as Smke Set the trigger delay as 10 secnds User a meaningful sensr label Set as Nrmally Clsed. (Mst smke sensrs are nrmally clsed type) 8.3 Alarms and Alerts The types f alarms and alerts culd be any f the fllwing. Alarm trigger (smke, fluid r digital). Exceeding a lwer r higher set threshld f a temperature r humidity sensr. Faulty sensr (analgue sensrs nly). 240V mains failure ntificatin. Lw internal battery ntificatin. Alarms are triggered nly if they are installed via the Sensr/Relay Cnfiguratin web interface. SafetyNet will nt mnitr un-installed sensrs. The viewer web interface will indicate an uninstalled sensr as spare. Temperature, humidity, smke & fluid sensrs have a trigger delay f 10 secnds embedded within the sftware. This will prevent any alarm spikes being treated as an alarm. If the alarms were active fr mre than 10 secnds they wuld be triggered. This value is nt user-cnfigurable. The digital sensr trigger delay is variable up t 120 secnds and can be set via sftware using the web interface. The remte viewer always shws almst real time data, therefre if an alarm threshld is exceeded, it will be shwn immediately n the remte viewer. Hwever the actual trigger f alarm ccurs nly if the trigger delay elapses. In an instance where the unit is running with its internal battery nly, and when the battery is clse t exhaustin, (typically after 2.5 hurs) the analgue sensrs may appear t be faulty and may raise an alarm. The unit will still perfrm its ther duties until the battery cmpletely shuts ff the device. SafetyNet by Cmputer Supprt Systems CSSSN 10/04

9 SMS Messages frm SafetyNet 9.1 Intrductin t SMS Messages frm SafetyNet SafetyNet is capable f sending SMS messages by using a SMS server applicatin hsted n the Internet by Cmputer Supprt Systems. SafetyNet cnverts any warning, alarms r shutdwn messages int TCP/IP packets and transmits them ver the Internet t a predetermined IP address. The server at this IP address will handle sending the SMS t predetermined numbers set by SafetyNet. 9.2 Requirements fr SMS Messages The additinal requirements t successfully send SMS messages are Access t the external machine with IP address n prt t establish a TCP/IP link. (Active Internet cnnectin) SMS features turned n by using the registratin key fr SMS sftware. Crrect cnfiguratin n the SMS cnfiguratin web interface. (Sensrs assciated with SMS messages and crrect phne numbers entered) 9.3 Limitatins The SMS message is sent nly up t the three phne numbers entered n the SMS cnfiguratin web interface. Clearing f an alarm is nt ntified via SMS Messages. The time stamp nted n the SMS message is extracted frm SafetyNet. SMS messages rely n the PSTN (Public Switched Telephne Netwrk) SMS messages are delivered nly when yur mbile phne is switched n. 9.4 Sample Messages Sme f the sample SMS messages wuld lk like: (Unit name: MY SAFETYNET) Sensr Alarms SafetyNet message frm MY SAFETYNET. 39 10 SNMP n SafetyNet 10.1 Intrductin t SNMP Features n SafetyNet SafetyNet is an SNMP (Simple Management Netwrk Prtcl) agent. Yu can get the current status f any sensr including the current temperature r humidity values via SNMP plling techniques. On alarm r n clearance f an alarm, SafetyNet sends SNMP trap messages t up t fur dedicated netwrk managers. On bt up and n any cnfiguratin update, SafetyNet will send a trap indicating the update t these netwrk managers. We assume that yu are familiar with SNMP t use SNMP features and t feel cmfrtable with the rest f this chapter. Once yu have yur MIB path effectively applied the trap bindings will indicate the details f the trap message Interpreting SafetyNet Traps Every SNMP trap is accmpanied by a string, which describes the ntificatin in plain simple English. In mst cases there is anther bject that hlds an integer value(s) that gives indicatin t which sensr is invlved r what type f an alarm it is. Based n this integer value yu are able t set the netwrk manager sftware t perfrm any ther third party actin as desired. It is als pssible t get the netwrk manger sftware t pll the current sensr status peridically, and t check if there are any alarms active. A few samples f the SNMP traps detect n a SNMP sniffer prgrams is depicted belw. Cldstart trap The bindings in the abve image give indicatin f 1. Hardware errr number 5, which is interpreted as analgue sensr ne is discnnected r faulty. (table 1.1) 10.7 SNMP Graphing It is pssible fr the Netwrk Manager Sftware (NMS) t pll the current temperature r humidity peridically and stre fr graphing purpses. SafetyNet updates the SNMP bjects analguesensronereading & analguesensrtwreading every secnd with its current temperature r humidity reading. If these sensrs are uninstalled, it will shw zer value. Yu can als pll the digital sensrs where an indicatin f 1 is interpreted as an active alarm and 0 as an inactive alarm. The values retrieved are integers hence a temperature r humidity value is shwn as a multiplicatin f 10. Mst SNMP graphing tls prvide a methd t view the graph by using a custmised multiplier. In this case, use the multiplier 0.1 t retrieve the exact value. Fr example, temperature value 25.6 C is retrieved as 256 & humidity value 60.4% is retrieved as Requirements A Netwrk Management System similar t HP OpenView that allws string SNMP data.
