Furthermre, in many cases supplied mnitr prfiles are inadequate, and they have a negative impact n the image appearance. Mrever, a nticeable number f users have ptimized their vide settings fr cmputer games, manually turning n the anistrpic filtratin f textures. This mde is incmpatible with the Clr Management functin f FastRawViewer. Clr Management can be turned n thrugh Preferences - Clr Management - Enable Clr management. 45 Wrking with Expsure FastRawViewer ffers several tls t analyze the expsure n a phtgraph, recmmend expsure adjustments during a shting sessin, and select expsure adjustment during RAW cnversin: RAW-histgram Over/Underexpsure statistics Shwing the areas f ver- and underexpsure n the image. Autmatic setting f psitive (lightening) expsure adjustment Manual Expsure adjustment setting. Histgram The RAW-data histgram is created based n the unmdified (disregarding any expsure adjustments metadata) RAW data frm the file: Hrizntal Scale: EV0 the level that crrespnds t the middle gray. If expsure adjustment has nt been applied, it s set t 3 phtgraphic stps belw the saturatin level f a camera. -5 the level that crrespnds t nrmal clean easily wrkable shadws fr the majrity f mdern cameras. +3 (when expsure adjustment is turned n it can be +2 r +1) extreme highlights. The leftmst mark f the scale is the level that crrespnds t the value f 1 in the RAW data. Page 45 f 127 Cpyright , LibRaw LLC,

The histgram step n the hrizntal axis is 0.1EV, s there will always be a cmb in the shadws, as there are less pssible levels than 10 levels per stp. When applying expsure adjustment (see belw) the histgram itself des nt change instead the hrizntal axis shifts. During a psitive expsure adjustment, the EV0 level shifts in the directin f the shadws (because the shadw sectins shifts t brighter nes clser t middle gray), crrespndingly the ther vertical marks mve as well (and if needed, the numbers fr the marks change as well). During a negative expsure adjustment, the axis shift is in the ppsite directin. Expsure statistics Expsure statistics is calculated fr RAW data. It is displayed in the OE/EU Stats table, which by default is in the right part f the prgram windw. If psitive expsure adjustment was nt applied t the file, this table will have 3 clumns (channel name, pixel verexpsure statistics, pixel underexpsure statistics): On the sht abve: 1. UnExp (underexpsure) clumn: 4.5% f pixels in the red and green channels and 23% f pixels in the blue are in the underexpsure zne meaning 8EV belw the saturatin pint f the camera. 2. OveExp (Overexpsure): there is practically n verexpsure (7 pixels in the red channels dn t really cunt) Page 46 f 127 Cpyright , LibRaw LLC,

8EV is a default value fr the camera dynamic range, yu can change it t the value yu prefer thrugh Preferences Image Display Underexpsure detectin limit. If psitive expsure adjustment was applied t the file, yet anther clumn appears in the table, OE+Crr: shwing hw many pixels will be blwn ut after the linear crrectin. On the image abve, abut 5-7% f red and green pixels ended up verexpsed (mre than likely, the attempted crrectin is t drastic). When quickly lking thrugh a large number f files, it may be useful t frce the OE+Crr clumn n (s as t make sure that attentin is nt distracted by the change f table size). This can be dne thrugh the statistics panel gear buttn. Page 47 f 127 Cpyright , LibRaw LLC,

Sptlighting the Areas f Over- and Underexpsure The ver/underexpsure areas can be identified using a clred verlay. Sptlighting the verexpsure znes can be turned n and ff thrugh Menu View Overexpsure Display (r by pressing the O key n the keybard): If sme pixels f a channel hit the verexpsure limit the values fr such pixels are clipped. FastRawViewer is using the fllwing clr scheme t sptlight the areas f verexpsure: Magenta areas where the green channel is clipped Cyan areas where nly the red channel is clipped Yellw areas where nly the blue channel is clipped Blue areas where bth green and red channels are clipped Green areas where bth blue and red channels are clipped Red areas where bth blue and green channels are clipped Black areas where all 3 channels are clipped. 49 With standard settings, the psitive expsure adjustment has the effect n the verexpsure area display: the areas shwn are the nes that wuld be verexpsed, if we had taken the sht with this expsure cmpensatin n the camera). This behavir can be changed by turning ff the setting Preferences Image Display Expsure adjustments affects OverExpsure display, in this case nly thse areas that are verexpsed (clipped) in the RAW file itself will be shwn as the verexpsed areas (bviusly, the expsure adjustment in FastRawViewer has n effect n the cntent f RAW files). Viewing the underexpsure zne can be turned n and ff thrugh Menu View Underexpsure Display (r by pressing the U key n the keybard): Like in the previus, the underexpsed pixels are sptlighted with saturated clrs: Blue where the blue channel is underexpsed Red where the red channel is underexpsed Green where the green channel is underexpsed Magenta where bth red and blue channels are underexpsed Cyan where bth green and blue channels are underexpsed Yellw where bth green and red channels are underexpsed Page 49 f 127 Cpyright , LibRaw LLC,

White where all three channels are underexpsed. Expsure adjustments d nt affect the display f underexpsure areas (r underexpsure statistics). Fr this sht, part f the fregrund is underexpsed; als, ne can see areas with the red channel underexpsed (red), and, als areas where bth red and blue channels are underexpsed (magenta). Unlike fr verexpsure, which is determined fairly unambiguusly in digital cameras (by the blwut f ne r mre channels, the channel histgram pressed t the right edge and having a characteristic spike), the limit f the unacceptable underexpsure area cannt be exactly determined, because it depends n Planned print size Planned shadw bst in the current sht. In FastRawViewer, the limit that cntrls the underexpsure warning is set by the user themself in the preferences (Preferences-Image Display Underexpsure detectin limit). The default value (8EV) is fairly cnservative, and wrks pretty well fr lw ISO settings, ISO. In the case f using high ISO, r strict demands t the image quality, this parameter may t be set lwer (t 6-7EV, and smetimes even lwer), accrding t the technical requirements fr the resulting image. Autmatic expsure crrectin Adbe 'hidden expsure crrectin By default, an expsure crrectin equal t the ne that is autmatically applied by Adbe cnverters is als applied when a RAW file is pened in FastRawViewer (fr mre details, please see ). As a result, the verall brightness f the renditin n the screen is a clse match t a JPEG preview; and, given the cntrast curve in Preferences is set t 'Adbe Linear' r 'Standard Tne', it als matches the renditin in Adbe cnverters with all the sliders there being set t '0'. The applicatin f this standard expsure ffset can be switched ff via Preferences Image Display Apply Adbe hidden expsure crrectin. Autmatic expsure crrectin If Shift-A is pressed, r Menu View Aut Expsure Crrectin is enabled, FastRawViewer calculates and applies autmatic expsure crrectin in such a way, that 1% f the ttal amunt f pixels in the image are pushed t saturatin (receive the value f 255 n the 8-bit scale).
