3 2 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Installing NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Yur NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing experience begins by running the sftware s setup file. Yur installatin starts when yu duble click n the.exe (setup) file. A screen pps up allwing yu t Run, Save r Cancel the setup prcess. By clicking Run, yu mve frm setup t installatin withut saving the.exe file t yur cmputer. The Save ptin allws yu t keep a cpy f the.exe file t yur Dcuments r Dwnlads flder within yur hard drive. Yu will need t duble click n the.exe file frm this flder t install NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. If yu click Cancel frm the.exe prmpt, yu will nt be able t install the prgram. After the.exe file runs thrugh its initial dwnlad, yu will be asked t Run r Dn t Run the full installatin prcess. Click Run t prceed with installatin f NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing r Dn t Run if yu aren t quite ready t add this prgram t yur cmputer. The setup prgram fr yur cmputer appears and guides yu thrugh the installatin prcess. Click n Next t mve frm the initial InstallShield screen t the Medical Disclaimer and License Agreement. The Medical Disclaimer and License Agreement must be accepted befre NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing is added t yur cmputer. By accepting the Medical Disclaimer, yu understand that yu are respnsible fr any pre-existing cnditins and health prblems that may affect yur ability t use the sftware. The License Agreement is a standard disclaimer allwing yu t perate NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing nly n yur cmputer. Yu will als be reminded in the License Agreement that if yu already wn NetAthln 2 fr Running/Skiing, it is imprtant t head t t install the special setup file rather than cmpleting a full installatin f the sftware. Fllw the n-screen directins t cmplete the installatin prcess. The final step in the installatin prcess fr NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing is t ptimize curses. The Optimizatin Screen ffers tw ptins: Nrmal and Manual Optimizatin. The Nrmal Optimizatin prcess autmatically ptimizes all curses available in the 15-day trial perid. This ptimizatin ptin is the default because it prepares the curse graphics files in a way that lads the curse data and renders the graphics the fastest way pssible fr yu system, In rare cases, the Nrmal Optimizatin methd will cause NetAthln t fail when starting a sessin, r the graphics will be mstly black r have strange shapes. Refer t the FAQ/ Trubleshting sectin t learn hw t remedy this prblem if it ccurs. Once the setup has finished, yu will need t restart yur cmputer befre yu can start NetAthln Yu will want t determine if new prduct updates exist n the internet. Staying updated with the latest Netathln XF sftware is imprtant fr keeping yur prduct running smthly. Use the UPDATE SOFTWARE buttn n the main menu OR yu can g int the Fitcentric Flder in yur start menu and select the Update Cycling XF tab. In either case fllw the prmpts until the update prcess is cmplete.

4 3 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Authrizing NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing starts with a 15-day trial perid with a limited number f curses. If yu decide that yu want t purchase a new curse r buy the full versin, click n the Authrize and Purchase icn at the bttm f the Main Menu. A pp-up screen will ask if yu want t exit NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing in rder t use the Authrizatin Manager. Click Yes in the screen t prceed r N if yu wish t cntinue using the sftware in its trial perid. The Authrize/Purchase Screen shws yur Site Cde, Site Key, Unlcked Curses/Optins and Lcked Curses/Optins. The right side f the screen features fur ptins fr authrizatin and purchase: Internet Authrizatin: If yu have already purchased NetAthln and have a Serial Number, this will unlck the sftware and purchased curses fr use n the installatin cmputer.

Purchase NetAthln 2: If yu have nt purchased NetAthln and the trial perid has expired. 6 5 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Main Menu Optins Yur experience with NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing begins frm the Main Menu. The Main Menu cnnects yu t custmizatin ptins fr sessins, infrmatin n sftware updates and pprtunities t add new curses t NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. In the fllwing pages, yu will becme mre familiar with these features and hw they can imprve yur experiences with NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing.

7 6 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Web Racing Sign In The Web Racing Sign In link at the upper right f the Main Menu allws yu t start yur nline exercise experience. Use yur web brwser t visit t receive yur free accunt, which will allw yu t use the Web Racing feature n NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. After pening yur accunt and verifying yur , yu need nt head t this website again t use the sftware s live racing features. Enter yur and passwrd frm the GameSpy Arcade accunt. Yur GameSpy Prfile shuld appear in the GameSpy ID cmb bx nce yu enter yur and passwrd: GameSpy ID: This will cntain all prfiles fr the given address. Yu must have previusly set up a GameSpy prfile at and yu must use the address and passwrd used t create the accunt. Refresh: After yu enter a valid and passwrd, click n Refresh t re-ppulate the cmb bx with all GameSpy IDs fr the GameSpy accunt. New: Click n this buttn t create a new GameSpy ID. Yu must already have created a GameSpy accunt fr the given address at After signing int Web Racing n NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing, click Live Racing in the Main Menu t chse the apprpriate server.

8 7 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Live Racing After lgging int the Web Racing Sign In sectin f the Main Menu, click n Live Racing t jin r hst an Internet sessin. The larger space in the Web Racing Servers menu lists existing servers hsted by ther users f NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. Learn abut the live users in a particular server by clicking n a server name and lking t the right in the Players n Select Server list. Each server features a unique name, a ping rate (cnnectin speed), the number f players and the curse in use. Select a server in the list then click n the Jin buttn lcated belw the servers list t enter the game. If yu d nt find a server immediately in the Web Racing Servers list, press Refresh t find ut if any new servers are pened. Yu may find that existing servers feature undesirable ping rates, numbers f players and curses fr yur needs. If yu cannt find an existing server fr yu, it is pssible t create a server frm the Web Racing Servers list. Befre starting yur wn server, yu will see tw ptins in the Hst a New Sessin sectin f the Web Racing Servers screen. The first ptin asks abut Spectatr Hsting. By checking Spectatr Hsting, yur cmputer will hst a server n NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing but nt be a participant. Yu can participate fully in yur hsted sessin by unchecking Spectatr Hsting. The secnd ptin is Use Static Cameras. By checking Use Static Cameras, the prgress f all participants will be fllwed frm fixed

9 8 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide cameras thrughut the curse. Unchecking static cameras means that a single camera will shift frm participant t participant thrughut the curse. Start yur wn server at NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing by checking the Hst icn at the bttm f the screen. The Staging Area screen allws yu t custmize the fllwing features f yur sessin: Curse Path # f Laps Race Distance Start At (fr late arrivers entering yur ride) If yu are using Internet instead f a Lcal Area Netwrk (LAN), yu will be able t use Vice Chat by clicking n Vice Chat n the Web Racing Servers screen. After activating Vice Chat, yu can select frm different capture devices (micrphnes) and playback devices (speakers). Adjust the Mic Input Level (the sund cming frm yur micrphne) and the Playback Level (the sund cming frm ther players) using the slider cntrls in the Staging Area screen. T test yur mic input level and playback

10 9 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide level settings, yu can check Ech My Vice. With this ptin checked, yu can speak int yur mic and hear yur wn vice thrugh yur speakers. Once yu are satisfied with yur settings, yu will want t uncheck Ech My Vice. Once yu are ready t start the sessin, press Race Nw at the bttm f the screen t begin a live sessin. T return t the Web Racing Servers list, click Cancel at the bttm f the screen.

11 10 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Virtual Cmpetitin When yu click n Virtual Cmpetitin frm the Main Menu, a screen appears with numerus criteria fr yur virtual pacers. T add r subtract pacers frm yur next sessin, click n the + buttn r buttn in the lwer left hand sectin f the pp-up windw. The default name fr each virtual rider is Pacer fllwed by a number. Yu can rename a pacer by clicking in the grid cell and typing the new name. Each pacer can be given a male r female avatar by scrlling thrugh the Gender menu. Every pacer can be custmized with three perfrmance settings including UltraRabbit, Cnstant Speed and Past Perfrmance. The UltraRabbit pacer type creates an avatar that will bserve yur perfrmance and travel slightly faster than yu. It will ccasinally slw dwn and let yu pass, then speed up t pass yu. Cnstant Speed allws yu t set a pacer s speed frm start t finish that is adjustable by entering the desired speed in the apprpriate text bx. The Past Perfrmance ptin allws yu t assign a pacer t mimic yur perfrmance frm a previus NetAthln sessin. The Past Perfrmance grid cell will cntain all f yur past perfrmance fr the selected curse. Click n the cell t scrll thrugh the list f past perfrmance files.

12 11 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Sessin Setup The sessin setup screen allws yu t custmize yur avatar alng with the duratin f yur sessin. After custmizing any f the fllwing sectins, click the Save buttn t save yur wrk r the Cancel buttn t return t the Sessin Setup screen. Gender The Gender sectin f Sessin Setup allws yu t chse between a male and a female avatar. Click the Up r Dwn arrw within Gender t chse yur avatar. Custm Texture Flder The Custm Texture Flder buttn allws yu t select a flder cntaining alternate textures fr the avatars. Please visit t learn mre abut custm textures fr NetAthln 2 XF. Curse Selectin The Curse Selectin screen allws yu t custmize yur experience n the currently selected curse. Yu can click n the Curse cmb bx t chse yur curse. The fllwing ptins allw yu t further custmize yur virtual running and skiing experience.

13 12 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Reverse Directin: By selecting Reverse Directin, yu will start at the end f the curse and travel t the beginning f the curse. Reverse Directin allws yu t keep yur running and skiing wrkuts lively after yu have cmpleted curses multiple times. Turn Arund at End f Curse: By selecting Turn Arund at End f Curse, yur avatar will cmplete ne lap n the curse in its standard directin. As yu crss the finish line, yur avatar will travel n a reverse path until yu reach the beginning f the curse. Pint f View: Yu can select frm tw pints f view befre yu hit the curse. 1st Persn simulates a view f the track frm yur avatar s eyes t make yu feel part f the simulatin. This view des nt shw yur avatar s bdy. 3 rd Persn places yur view behind yur avatar as if yu were viewing yur prgress thrugh a trailing camera. Yu will see yur avatar s bdy in the 3 rd Persn view. Curse Setup The Curse Setup page allws yu t select where yu start each sessin in relatin t yur lcatin n the beginning f the curse. When yu click Curse Setup, yu will see a windw with the ttal distance f yur selected curse at the tp. In the Start At edit bx, enter hw far int the curse yu wish t start yur sessin by typing in the number r clicking the Up and Dwn arrws. Race Style The length f each sessin n NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing is adjusted in the Race Style screen. The fllwing features allw yu t adjust sessin length based n yur exercise gals: # f Laps: Click the Up and Dwn arrws t determine the number f laps fr each sessin. Yu can als click n the text bx with yur muse and enter the number f laps with yur keybard. If yu leave the number f laps at zer, yu can cntinue t ride n a curse withut a set finishing pint. Race Dist: At the tp f the Race Dist screen, yu will see the ttal distance f yur selected curse. Click the Up and Dwn arrws in Race Dist t set the length f yur sessin n that curse. Yu can als click n the text bx with yur muse and enter the distance with yur keybard. If yu leave the sessin distance at zer, yu can cntinue t ride n a curse withut a set finishing distance. Race Time: The Race Time screen allws yu t limit yur time n a selected curse withut regards t number f laps r sessin distance. Click n the text bx t enter yur race time in hurs, minutes and secnds using yur keybard.

14 13 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Persnal Prfile Yur Persnal Prfile page allws yu t establish yur preferred language, units f measurement and basic health metrics within NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. After custmizing any f the fllwing screens, click the Save buttn t save yur wrk r Cancel t return t the Persnal Prfile screen. Manage Prfile NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing allws yu t create multiple prfiles t accmmdate multiple users and exercise styles. Click n the Add buttn and enter yur prfile name t create yur first prfile. Select Duplicate and enter a new prfile name t create anther prfile using the same settings as the riginal prfile. Yu can eliminate unused prfiles by clicking n the Delete buttn and clicking n the Yes buttn when asked if yu are certain yu wish t delete the prfile. Language Yu can change the language used thrughut NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing in the Language Screen. The default language is English with German, French and Dutch available with ne click f the muse.

15 14 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Units The Units screen features examples f US Standard and Metric units f measurement. These examples include distance, weight and frmat fr yur birth date. By selecting US Standard, yu will see yur cycling distances in miles, yur weight in punds and yur birth date in the mnth-date-year frmat. The Metric frmat shws yur cycling distances in meters, yur weight in kilgrams and yur birthday in the date-mnth-year frmat. Weight Yur weight is used in determining yur heart rate during exercises. Als, exercise equipment that simulates a grade uses yur bdy weight t prperly set the resistance as yu travel thrugh a curse. In rder t enter yur accurate weight, click Up r Dwn in the Weight screen until yu have reached yur current weight. Yu can als type yur weight in the edit bx. Birthday Yur birthday helps NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing determine yur age, which can be used in determining target heart rate znes. Click the Up r Dwn arrw n the mnth, the date and the year until yu have reached yur birthday. Yu can als type yur birthday in the edit bx. Target HR Znes Yu can set Target HR Znes, which NetAthln 2 XF will include in yur sessin s saved data. This will help rganize yur perfrmance data fr imprt int ther third party sftware. Fr a list f sftware that can analyze NetAthln 2 XF sessin data, visit Click the Up r Dwn arrw n the Target HR Zne t set yur maximum HR. Yu can als type yur Target HR Zne in the edit bx.

16 15 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide System Settings The System Settings screen allws yu t custmize yur interactins with NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. These features nt nly cnnect yur exercise equipment and heart rate (HR) device t yur cmputer but als adjust the visual and audi cmpnents f the prgram. After custmizing any f the fllwing screens, click n the Save buttn t save yur wrk r the Cancel buttn t return t the System Settings screen. Exercise Equipment Yur first step in the System Settings screen is t select the equipment used fr each curse. The default in Exercise Equipment is keybard, which allws yu t test ut a curse withut setting up a treadmill. The Exercise Equipment als allws yu t chse a jystick that prvides a mre fluid exercise simulatin cmpared t a keybard. Once yu are ready t wrk ut n NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing, yu can select treadmills and ther exercise equipment by scrlling thrugh the Equipment menu. The remaining ptins in Exercise Equipment vary depending n yur preferred equipment. The Prt menu allws yu t chse the prt n yur cmputer that will cnnect yur exercise equipment t the sftware. The Resistance feature allws yu t chse whether the grade remains cnstant r NetAthln will tell yur exercise equipment t

17 16 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide change the resistance level based n the percentage slpe yur avatar is n as it travels thrugh the curse. Yu can als check r uncheck Aut Start/Stp Clck and Enable Paused Mde frm this menu. When Aut Start/Stp Clck is checked, the sessin clck will nt run unless yur avatar is in mtin. By checking Enable Paused Mde, NetAthln 2 XF fr Running/Skiing will head int dem mde if yur speed stays at zer fr mre than tw minutes. External HR Device Mst exercise equipment has heart rate mnitring capabilities. These equipment will send yur heart rate t NetAthln 2 XF autmatically. If yur exercise equipment des nt measure heart rate, yu can use an external HR device. Select Nne if yur exercise equipment measures yur heart rate. Otherwise select Suunt r FirstBeat if yu have the device cnnected t a USB prt. Vide Settings The default vide settings created during install have NetAthln 2 XF appear in a windw and n the first mnitr if yu have multiple mnitrs. Yu will want t change at least the Screen Reslutin s that NetAthln 2 XF ccupies the entire screen. The Adapter cmb bx allws yu t chse between multiple screens attached t the same cmputer. Yur chices fr Screen Reslutin depend n yur graphics card. NetAthln will display a windwed ptin plus all reslutins the graphics system reprts. Check the Widescreen Mnitr ptin nly if yu are using a widescreen mnitr and yu select a reslutin with a 4:3 aspect rati. If yu have a widescreen mnitr and yu select 1280 x 1024, yu will want t select this ptin s that the images wn t appear stretched. Nearly all recent graphics cards have wide aspect vide reslutins s it is unlikely that yu will check this ptin. Vide Optimizatin Yu can adjust the quality f vide during yur NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing experience with the Vide Optimizatin screen. Click n Use Fix fr Incmpatible Graphics Card if NetAthln 2 XF des nt render the scene prperly. Checking this ptin degrades the visual quality smewhat, s nly check this ptin if yu experience prblems when it is checked. Click n the Quality cmb bx t chse ne f five ptins ranging frm Highest t Lwest. Sund Settings The Sund Settings screen will allw yu t add backgrund sunds and select speakers t enhance yur exercise experience. Click n Enable Ambient Sunds t include backgrund sunds like birds, fellw participants and wind in yur sessin.

18 17 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Frm the Sund Device cmb bx, yu can select Nne if yu d nt have speakers r check the speakers cnnected t yur cmputer. Fitness Data The Fitness Data screen dictates hw NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing handles yur fitness metrics during and after sessins. Yu can adjust hw ften fitness data is cllected, where sessin infrmatin is saved and hw sessin data is displayed. After custmizing any f the fllwing screens, click the Save buttn t save yur wrk r Cancel t return t the Fitness Data screen. Sampling Rate The Sampling Rate is an interval at which yur fitness metrics (heart rate, pwer, etc.) are saved fr future analysis. NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing sets the sampling rate at a default f 15 secnds. Click n the scrlling menu t chse yur interval rate with a range f ne secnd t five minutes.

19 18 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Saving Methd Yur fitness data can be saved t a flder n yur cmputer fr future use. NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing allws yu t determine hw yu are prmpted t save fitness infrmatin: Ask Whether t Save: After yu have exited each sessin, yu will be asked whether yu want t save fitness data frm that sessin. This prmpt will allw yu t save by clicking the Yes buttn r discard the data by clicking the N buttn. Autmatically Save: By selecting Autmatically Save, yur fitness data will be saved in yur dedicated flder withut prmpting. Never Save: By selecting Never Save, yur fitness data will nt be saved t yur dedicated flder. Saving Lcatin The Saving Lcatin is where all f yur saved infrmatin will be placed n yur cmputer. When yu click n Saving Lcatin, a screen with all f yur cmputer s drives will appear. In additin t yur hard drive, PC users can access the Flash r remvable disk drives. Click n yur preferred drive and select a flder where yur infrmatin will be placed. Statistics The Statistics page allws yu t select up t seven metrics that appear n the bttm f yur Race Screen. These metrics include: Speed, Time, Distance, Lap, Heart Rate, Grade (Slpe) and Altitude. Click n the metrics that yu want included n the Statistics page. Display Settings Yur Display Settings ptins start when yu select hw many participants will appear n the leader bard. The cmb bx allws yu t select 1 t 8 ther participants r All if yu wish t see all participants n the leader bard. Other ptins in the Display Settings menu include: Only Live Runners in Leader Bard: By clicking n this feature, the leader bard n the upper left sectin f the race screen nly features human participants. If yu leave this feature unselected, bth human and cmputer-generated participants will be listed n the leader bard. Shw Names f Other Runners: By clicking n this feature, each avatar will feature a name abve its head. These names will als appear n the leader bard next t the distance traveled.

Yu can leave this feature unselected t keep yur view clear f ther avatar speeds. Additinal Optins n the Main Menu Alng the bttm f the Main Menu screen, yu will see multiple icns that lead yu t mre infrmatin n the website. These icns include: NetAthln Website: Exits the NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Main Menu and takes yu t the NetAthln website. Questin Mark (?): Exits the NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Main Menu and takes yu t the NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide. Update Sftware: Exits the NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Main Menu and brings up the Easy Update screen. Click next n Easy Update t find the latest updates fr NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. Credits: Brings up list f credits fr the prducers and designers f NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Menu. Authrize and Purchase: Exits the NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Main Menu and takes yu t the Authrizatin Manager t purchase the sftware and individual curses. Quit: Exits the NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing Main Menu cmpletely.

21 20 NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing User Guide Selecting Curses On the right hand side f the Main Menu, yu will find a list bx with a list f running and skiing curses. Click n the cmb bx and mve yur muse up and dwn t lk at curses available thrugh NetAthln 2XF fr Running/Skiing. The center f the screen features a screensht f the selected curse. Click Up r Dwn arund this screensht t flip thrugh curse thumbnails. In the trial perid, yu will have three curses available: Clrad Trail Ski, Ec Adventure Ski and Head f the Charles. The remainder f the curses will appear n yur list but the screensht will say Lcked. Nt Installed. In rder t purchase these curses, click n the Authrize and Purchase buttn at the bttm f the screen t shw the Authrizatin and Online Purchase Manager, which will guide yu thrugh the curse purchase prcess. expand yur curse list. It is imprtant t nte that there are tw separate things that need t happen in rder t use an additinal curse: the curse needs t be installed and the curse needs t be unlcked. Yu may have sme curses that have been installed but are lcked, especially if yu installed NetAthln 2 XF frm a CD. If yu select a curse and Lcked appears n the curse thumbnail, all yu need t d is purchase a license fr the curse and yu will be ready t use it. It is als pssible t purchase a license fr a curse but the curse has nt been installed. If Nt Installed appears n the thumbnail, then yu can visit and dwnlad a setup prgram that will install the curse files. If bth Lcked and Nt Installed appear n the thumbnail, then yu need t dwnlad and run the setup prgram fr the curse and yu need t purchase a license t unlck the curse. It des nt matter in what rder yu d this; yu can purchase the curse first r yu can dwnlad and run the setup fr the curse first. Yu will need t d bth in rder t use a curse.
