"1000 plastic bags are expesive, 100,000 are cheap", explais Norbert Schumacher, Techical Maager at the compay based i BergischGladbach, Germay. Bags are ofte also required i differet sizes. Two drives per machie were to esure precise fuctioig for the bag legth ad a straight cut. Oe drive actuates the feed roller ad cotrols the feed legth correspodig to the bag legth. The secod stepper motor is required for the cuttig ad weldig equipmet. Joke uses the pulse weldig process i all devices, where the sealig bar moves dowwards simultaeously with the cuttig movemet of the top blade. I the lower positio, the bag is the sealed agaist a rubber plate. After cuttig, the bags drop oto a delivery table. Here the drive geerates a etire workig stroke with oe rotatio. "The advatage of stepper motors is the optimal iterplay betwee the feed ad liftig movemet that ca be accurately coordiated with speed optimisatio", accordig to the Project Maager. All parameters, icludig stroke legth, umber of cycles, sealig/ coolig time, item quatities, etc. are etered via a touchscree, ad the system is cotrolled by a S7 iterface. As the legth is set i millimetres, but the drive uses icremets for its calculatios, the millimetre measuremets are coverted ito the required umber of steps ad forwarded to the drive cotrol. Followig a comprehesive evaluatio process, the choice was made i favor of the Plug & Drive motors from Naotec Electroic. The combiatio of stepper motor with itegrated cotroller met Joke's requiremets for a compact solutio. After all, the miibag Boy is small eough to fit o ay workbech or work table. Two motors of model umber PD6N8918M9504, size 86, are ow i use i every miibagboy 400. With a legth of 121 mm, the dimesios were correct ad the holdig torque of 5.9 N was right. They also impressed i terms of price, quality ad performace. Thaks to the Naotec's proprietary dspdrive techology ad ope/ closed loop support, there were simply o disadvatages i relatio to the servomotors formerly used, ad they are cosiderably more compact. The dspdrive techology is based o a digital sigal processor ad uses software to regulate the motor curret i a higher resolutio tha with stadard ICs. The motor rus with lower resoace, ad also offers a adaptive step resolutio of 1% icremets from 1.8 to 1/64 or 1/128 i the ope loop as well. Whether the Plug & Drive motors are workig i ope or closed loop mode, the Widowsbased software NaoPro is used for the settig work. Closed Loop has the advatage of lower eergy cosumptio. Overload reserves permit output peaks without the system failig ad the low resoaces meas that the motors are quieter. The reduced heatig is easy o the motor bearigs ad exteds their service life, thus also extedig the overall availability of the machie. The miibagboy ca produce bags with a film width betwee 400 ad 600 mm ad legths of betwee 15 ad 4000 mm ad more, icludig o multiple tracks. 3 g Naotec Closed Loop techology Closed loopcompatible stepper motors combie the advatages of stepper ad servomotor techology. They ru more quietly ad have a lower resoace tha stepper motors, provide positio feedback ad cotrol, short settlig times, ad avoid step loss etirely. They represet a alterative to the stepper motor wheever eergy efficiecy, quiet operatio ad load tolerace are required. I cotrast to servomotors, they offer the advatages of high torque at low speeds, short settlig times, correct positioig with o oscillatio ad a lower price, ofte with a smaller size. What is Closed Loop? Siusoidal commutatio via ecoder with fieldorieted cotrol is referred to as a closed loop process. Through the ecoder the rotor positio is recorded ad siusoidal phase currets are geerated i the motor coils. The vector cotrol of the magetic field esures that the stator magetic field is vertical to the rotor magetic field ad the field stregth correspods precisely to the required torque. The regulated curret level i the coils provide eve motor force ad result i a especially quietruig motor that ca be accurately regulated. True / Pseudo Closed Loop There are stepper motors that do add the closed loop flag ad work with ecoders, but offer o fieldorieted, siusoidal curret cotrol. They oly check the step positio, ad caot correct step losses durig operatio. True closed loop with fieldorieted regulatio compesates step losses durig the ru or prevets them from occurrig by icreasig the motor curret. Advatages over stadard stepper motors Step motors are used where fixed positios are to be ru. The traditioal step motor trasfers electrical eergy ito precise mechaical movemets, as log as the motor torque is ot exceeded. As there is o positio feedback ad cotrol loop, the motor losses steps if uexpected load chages or resoace occur, ad o loger moves to the required positio. I these circumstaces, the Closed Loop stepper motor ca reregulate, ad reliably reaches the specified positio. The ope cotrol circuit meas that the stadard stepper motor is always operated with the same curret regardless of the load ad therefore becomes relatively hot i may applicatios. Via the curret cotrol i the closed loop, the curret level is adjusted for the required torque; o uecessary heat loss is produced, ad the eergy cosumptio is reduced accordigly. Advatages over servomotors Closed loop stepper motors from Naotec represet a alterative to servodrives i may cases, such as widig applicatios or coveyor belt drives. The torque ca also be accurately cotrolled i additio to the speed ad positio. This meas that ot oly the maximum torque, highest level of efficiecy ad optimum dyamics is achieved, but also the lowest torque fluctuatio ad exceptioally quiet ruig. Optimise motor ruig for the applicatio, e.g. i speed mode with differet start/omial speeds, ramps ad motor currets, ope ad closed loop. Select the relevat operatio mode for the applicatio (e.g. absolute positioig, speed cotrol via aalog iput, torque, etc.) ad save the parameters to the cotroller. The coected cotrol is idetified automatically, ad default values ca be loaded for differet motors. All motorrelated parameters such as max. curret level, curret reductio, steppig mode, etc. ca be parameterized here easily. Machie settigs make the parameters more trasparet for the operator, simplifyig the commissioig process. For example, with a liear axis the path ad speed ca be parameterized i mm ad m/s, for example, ad o coversio ito steps ad Hz are required by the user. I the ope loop, the power cosumptio of the drive is ot depedet o the load (first illustratio); i the closed loop, the power cosumptio is reduced accordigly at a lower load (secod illustratio). 4 Plug&Drive stepper motors with itegrated motor cotrol NaoPro flexible cotrol via software cofiguratio The Plug & Drive motors provide the same features as with our exteral cotrollers, but with ecoders itegrated directly ito the motor. I compariso to a solutio with a exteral cotroller, a large part of the wirig work is o loger required as oly the supply voltage ad the field bus iterface eed to be wired as a miimum. For example, for the SoftPLC CoDeSys V3 SoftMotio from the compay 3SSmart Software Solutios GmbH there is a readymade driver available for easy itegratio of the cotroller. For the productio of our protectio ratig motors, it is ecessary to spray sealat oto the covers. Due to the large umber of variatios depedig o the motor size, or a customized desig, the sprayedo sealat shape must be easy to chage i productio. To automate this process, we have used our ow Plug & Drive motors with CoSeSys: Two PD4N5918 Plug & Drive motors move the dosig head o the track specified by the SoftPLC via toothed belt axes. Two ewly developed ecoder types ow allow the field of closed loop techology to be exteded to other applicatios: Optical ecoder NOE 1 series The optical, 3chael miiature ecoder NOE1, with dimesios of just 20x26 mm ad a depth of 10 mm ca also be used for the smallest stepper ad BLDC motors i our product rage. With a resolutio of up to 2000 pulses per rotatio (8000 icremets with quadrature), this produces a resolutio of 40 icremets per full step from a 1.8 stepper motor. This makes operatio with very eve ruig possible eve at low speeds. Thaks to their high level of accuracy, optical ecoders are ideal for applicatios where high positioig precisio is required. Magetic ecoder NME4096 The magetic ecoder NME4096 has bee specially developed for itegratio ito IPprotected ad Plug & Drive motors. Its dimesios are cosiderably smaller tha those of a optical ecoder. I additio to the icremetal sigals with 1024 pulses per rotatio, the ecoder geerates the three hall chaels for BLDC commutatio iterally from the same sigal ad oce per rotatio, a idex pulse for referecig. The referece sigal is issued absolutely sychroously with the hall phase ad therefore also supports the positioig accuracy. The geeratio of the hall sigals from the ecoder ot oly reduces the umber of compoets, icreasig the reliability level, but also provides greater accuracy i the phase distace of the hall sigals tha would ormally be provided with idividual hall sesors.
