MVQ was established in PR ES I D ENT S MES S AG E Happy New Year, everyone! MA Newsletter items must be in to me by the 1st of each month: Pat.lucey@verizon.net A new year begins and MVQ has a lot happening. The UFO auction is coming in February. Please consider donating and volunteering. Elections are coming in May, and we need to form a nominating committee. Bev Valle and Jamie Ruh volunteered to be the two committee chairs. We need three members to join them. All members are welcome to submit their names as a member of the nominating committee and/or for an executive board position. NECC has asked us to change our regularly scheduled date for two additional general meetings in The May meeting has been changed to 5/23/2019 and the October meeting has been changed to 10/24/2019. In case of a general meeting cancelation, the executive board will send out a bulk to all members using the address that is on the master membership list. Please check to make sure your address is correct. Information will also be posted on Channel 7 by our secretary, Jamie Ruh. NECC will send a notification to anyone who signs up to receive it by . All members are welcome to sign up on the NECC website. Bev Valle has graciously volunteered to head the Dragonfly Quilt committee to make a quilt for Hospice House. Ann Hockmeyer volunteered to help Bev. Look for information about this important project and consider volunteering to help. Phyllis Lauria volunteered to be the chairperson for MVQ s 40 th anniversary party. She is in the process of building her team, researching venues and establishing a budget request for the board. She will have more information coming. Keep your eyes open for this one. It s going to be great! Lot s more is happening such as the 2019 Quilt Show, Programs, the Travel Raffle Quilt for 2019 and the 2020 Raffle quilt. We need someone to volunteer to head the 2021 raffle quilt committee. Wow! We are a busy guild. Our success depends on members volunteering. Our membership is up! That means lot s more members to volunteer. Where can you help? Please ask me or any of the board members. 2 SPECIAL EXHIBIT FOR QUILT SHOW 2019 The Special Exhibit in 2019 will showcase projects from programs in the last two years. For our hanging purposes, finished quilts need to be smaller than 36 long. Any size width will be fine. 3 Our next meeting in January is Journeys an opportunity for 3 of our members to do a short trunk show of their quilting journey. This is always a favorite program and a great way to learn more about one of your fellow members. You won t want to miss these three wonderful ladies. There will be no workshop in January! February brings us the UFO auction lots of great deals and a wonderful way to build your stash or just add more to your sewing room because you can! This is always such a fun meeting with great items for sale. Bring your wallet and come have some fun. Our February workshop is taught by our own Carrie Zizza. Learn how to do some machine quilting and get started on all those tops you have piling up. Stop by and sign up at the Workshop table and see our other great programs for the rest of the year. Also a big thank you to Sue Pelland who taught our October workshop. It was fabulous and we hope we see some of those beautiful quilts soon! Sue stayed until 5:30 (class ended at 3:30) to make sure every student had their top completely laid out properly and fused down. She was amazing and a fun, talented teacher. Thank you Sue. Thanks for all your support. Hope you re having fun with the programs and workshops so far! Ronni, Chairperson We say a sad Good-bye to Mary Wilkes, who is moving back to Michigan in January. She has contributed so much to this guild with her enthusiasm and hearty laugh! She will be missed. BUT- she will return to head the Show in September with Ann and Winoneh!

4 UFO Auction Stacy has found a place to store items until February and will take donations until the auction date. She will not be able to attend the December meeting. 6 "Block the Block". There will be two demonstrations by Ann Hockmeyer, one at 6:20 and the other at 6:40. Learn how to fix those pesky slightly wonky blocks! 2019 quilt show 2019 & Counting I have thoroughly enjoyed chairing the quilt show so when the 2018 show came to a close I started thinking ahead to next year. Firstly a big thank you to the following members who have said they will return to help me in 2019: Wenonah Schwedler, Linda Lydecker, Heather Shields, Ann Hockmeyer, Pat Lucey, Maggie Judd, Bev Knapp, Marianne Karp, Elaine Rando, Carrie Zizza, Stacey Caruso, Patti Gregg, Cathy Harnish, Jane Hamel, Angie Cyr, Gail Wozniak, Betty Hastings, Judy Naylor and Diane Kelley. Also, thank you to Pat McBride who has volunteered though not been given an assignment yet. While I was on retreat Barbara Ward and Roseann Ricketson volunteered to take on the Ruby Challenge. They are excited and have some wonderful ideas. 7 Vice President's Message Last year members came through with 76 quilts for two organizations Community Crossroads and Liberty House. I would like to do the same this year. The first organization is Believe Anything and Everything is Possible which assists patients going through cancer treatment. They are looking for lap size quilts to use during treatment. It was recently brought to my attention that High Pointe House Hospice is in desperate need of lap size or twin size quilts. I would appreciate keeping these groups in your hearts and minds for comfort quilts this year. Ronnie Longwell will be taking care of comfort quilts for me. Also, it is with great sadness that I have to resign as your Vice President. My husband applied for and accepted a job in Michigan so I will be moving after the first of the year. I have loved being a part of this guild from the first meeting when Liz Swan and Diane Desjardins made this new member feel welcome to becoming friends with so many. New members can flourish with the help of established members and I am proof of that. I have been happy here and learned so much. My quilting skills have definitely improved. Having said all this the quilt show is a passion of mine and I would like to honor my commitment to work the 2019 show. Ann Hockmeyer is willing to be vice chair and assist Wenonah in my absence but I will come back in September. I will miss you all. Mary

8 Confusion with Red and White Quilts In June of 2017 I mentioned to the group our 40th Ruby anniversary quilt show will be Sept of So let s see how many red and white quilts we can hang in our show with a couple years to work on them. Any size from bed to mini. This was a push for a good showing by lots of our members to be hung in the regular part of the quilt show. Red and white only This has nothing to do with the show challenge either this year run by Marianne and Layne OR the 2020 show challenge I heard may be run by Roseanne and Barbara I know a couple of the guild offshoot mini groups are working on doing red and white quilts which is great news. 9 MVQ Guild meeting minutes 12/6/18 Call to order: 6:37 P.M. President s Announcements The treasurer s report submitted by Gail Forthoffer was accepted as circulated. Membership Bev Valle: There were 69 members in attendance, 4 new members, and 3 guests. New members are Janice Buck, Marilyn Dutton, Pat Williams- Driscoll, and Marilyn Yee. Raffles won by Terry Maimone, Sue Molin, Sandy Fecteau, and Margaret Tipton. Thank you to Gail Wozniak and committee for a wonderful holiday party. A delicious potluck dinner was enjoyed by everyone followed by a game hosted by Gail that had members receiving gift certificates as prizes, the grand prize being a huge container of buttons. A musical chairs type game was played as we passed our brown bags containing handmade gift items.
