For me, that s finishing the projects for sale at the boutique and the silent auction, bringing items for the penny raffle baskets and the white elephant table, planning on making desserts and bringing water or soda for the café, and finishing the quilts I plan to hang in the show. It s a busy month, with Easter and the Kennebunk retreat, but somehow, everything gets done. There is still time to sign up with Marilou to sit with the raffle quilt in Manchester, April 11, 12, and 13. There is also time to sign up to work at the quilt show. Everyone is required to help for a two hour period, so plan ahead and help in any way you can. Many thanks to all who have volunteered their time to the quilt show. 2 Sewing Machine Raffle We now have tickets for the Sewing Machine raffle available and they will be sold at all the meetings before the show. If you would like to sell some to your friends etc. please feel free to let us know and we will proyou with the tickets. We want this to be a great success. The machine is a small Viking and the warranty will go from the day of the drawing. A great little machine to take to workshops or on vacation! vide The drawing will be at the Quilt Show. The Mystery Quilt Part 4 instructions are now available on the MVQ website under Projects. A few copies will be available at the front table for those without computer access. 3 April 26th, 27th QUILT SHOW May 16th June 20th Timberlake Middle School Lecture & Trunk show of Judy Neimeyer quilts by Lisa McCarthy, Certified instructor When the Going Gets Tough, the tough Make a Quilt by author Marie Bostick Get your quilts ready! Paper pieced Table runner taught by Lisa McCarthy Tom the scissor sharpener will be at our April meeting for your sharpening needs. He has been asked about PINKING SHEARS, yes he will sharpen them, regular scissors and he also does knives. If you have any that need sharpening please bring them to the April meeting. If you like to knit or crochet baby hats I have a source to give them to. Pat Lucey MVQ has two tubs of storybooks with accompanying quilts to be used in a classroom or school library They are suitable from Pre-K through Middle school. You can arrange for a tub to take to your child or grandchild s school for afew weeks. Mary Ginn and Maggie Judd are the people to see to arrange this.

4 Remember When Celebrating the fifties and sixties April 26th and 27th Friday & Saturday Timberlane Middle School, Plaistow, NH JUDGING DAY: Wed. April 25th. Bring the quilts you want to be judged to the Merrimac Library by 8:00AM. Our judge is Mary Walters. Carrie will keep the quilts and bring to Timberlane on Thursday for check-in for the Show. All quilts must be tagged and numbered [directions will be available in March]. Sleeves must be attached. Volunteers: There will be a sign-up sheet at the March meeting for you to volunteer to meet your 2 hour obligation. The 15 ladies who attended the Ribbon Workshop have met their obligation. BOUTIQUE: Members have the chance to sell homemade items or practically new books or notions at the Boutique table. MVQ gets 20% and the member receives 80%. Forms are available online or at the back table. Please use your 3 Letter monogram for your code. WHITE ELEPHANT TABLE : It s Back! Bring all your unwanted fabric, magazines, patterns, books, notions, etc. etc. etc. Angie will sell them all all proceeds go to the Guild! SEWING MACHINE RAFFLE: A light weight Viking will be raffled off all tickets are $1 tickets will be available at Feb and March meetings. Value- $500. SILENT AUCTION: Put a homemade article in the auction proceeds will go to Coastal Connections, a day program for disabled adults. 50% will go to you. You can set the minimum bid.

5 March 21st, 2013 minutes of the General Meeting Meeting was called to order at 7:00 by Bev Valle. Susan Richards program chairperson announced Karen Combs as he speaker of the night. She gave a wonderful talk on "Quilts of Illusion" and showed several beautiful quilts. Entry forms were passed up front for the Quilt Show. Part 4 of the Mystery Quilt is on the blog under projects. Block raffle blocks were collected in the back of the hall. This will be the last one for this year. Thank you Andrea. The door raffle was won by Mary Ginn, Lisa McCarthy, and Joanne Burns. The monthly raffle was won by Betty Hastings. Lin Caiado is in charge of comfort quilts. You can give them to her at any time. Plans for the Quilt Show are going well. All entry forms are due by March 24 th, no exceptions. Heavier bags were recommended to transport quilts to the show. Drop off for the judged quilts and non judged quilts are Carrie Zizza, Bev Valle, Marianne Karp, and Ann Hockmeyer. Only quilts that are not getting judged can go to the Red Barn. Don't forget to pass in tickets for the quilt raffle. Deb Zukas is looking for donations of soda and desserts for the cafe. We will start a sign up sheet at the April general meeting. Volunteers for the demo's at the quilt show are Bev Valle, Signe Kaleel, and Jane Hamel. Don't forget to purchase your raffle tickets for the sewing machine. There was a sign up sheet at the back of the hall for the Silent Auction. The items can be given to Bev Valle anytime, or bring them Thursday, April 25 when you drop off your quilts for the show. You can donate 100 % of the item or receive 50% of the item s sale price, and 50 % goes to the selected charity Coastal Connections in Amesbury. Call Bev if you have items for the Silent Auction that have not been put on the sign up sheet as yet. Show and Tell completed the evening! Barbara Black

6 Project Linus -Merrimack Valley Chapter Merrimack Valley Hospice House Lyn Caiado will be collecting and they will be on exhibit at the Show. Quilt Drop off Locations If you are unable to deliver your quilts to Timberlane Middle School, Thursday, April 25th, or for quilts that are being judged the day before, here is the list of quilt drop-off people, Look for further information regarding judged quilts. Ann Hockmeyer My office is available anytime the week before and the week of the show from the hours of 8-4 at 87 Elm St. in Amesbury. I will make sure they all get to Carrie. Marianne Karp and Bev Valle Anyone who wishes to drop off a quilt to either of us should call us (# on the membership list) and make arrangements for a mutually suitable time. All quilts can be dropped off beginning Monday, April 15th through Tuesday, April 23rd. Red Barn We will only accept NON JUDGED quilts during regular store hours, Thursday, April 18, up to Wednesday, April 24. If you have a conflict, call Helen at the store. Carrie Zizza will accept quilts until April 23rd. Any time is fine, but you just need to call her first.

7 I thought your guild would like to know about the "Grand Central Terminal Centennial Quilt Challenge", organized by American Patchwork & Quilting magazine and The City Quilter. The next issue of APQ due out in about three weeks devotes an entire page to this competition is the 100th Anniversary of GCT, one of the most famous and beautiful buildings in the world. Naturally, we felt this called for fabrics to help celebrate! Consequently, we developed two designs, "Grand Central" and a complement, "GCT Constellations," both in two colorways, beige and GCT-ceiling aqua. These are exclusively available from us. I've attached images of the four fabrics. Note that these photos don't fully capture the full repeat in the case of the main print; nor do they capture the gold flake that is extensively used in both designs.

No one-side can be larger than 30 inches. Here are a few ideas s music 1950 s cars 1950 s fashion Use your imagination. Challenge quilts will be judged in their own category based on theme compatibilty, design choices and workmanship. Please attach to your quilt a statement of twenty-five words or less about your quilt which will be read by the judges. This will assist with judging in the area of theme compatibility.
