Our next meeting will be in our new space at Northern Essex Community College in the Technology Center! This new modern space is going to be a real treat to all of you, especially to those who can t manage stairs anymore, as it s fully accessible. I m sure you ll all love it and be very comfortable. See the info. on the blog for directions, it s very easy to get to. This meeting is our annual Holiday Party so plan on having a great time and eating fabulous food and scrumptious desserts. In the spirit of giving we ask that you please bring toiletries for local shelters. If you want to play a fun game remember to bring 4 fat quarters in a small brown bag. We will also have members vending their beautiful handmade items so you can get some holiday shopping done too! Show and Tell will be fabulous I m sure! Annis Redwork Sneak peek at next June program Diana Annis, a Massachusettts quilter/teacher is coming on Thursday, June 16 th. She is going to lecture and have a trunk show that night about Redwork all about the history and how we have gone through a revival and brought it into the new modern generation. She will show us antiques, vintage and current works. Workshop : SOMETHING DIFFERENT SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS EARLY Will be held on the same day. Thursday June 16 th 1-5pm at a location TBD. She will teach the basics of hand stitching and embroidery, and tips and tricks to make your work the best it can be.

Beginning with our December meeting, we are relocating to Northern Essex Community College in the technology building. The room is handicap accessible, warm and has its own sound system. Dear Merrimack Valley Quilters Guild, Sewy Boards (Joey Zizza and Sam Lewis) would like to thank the Guild for allowing us to set up our station at your meeting to sell our pressing boards to the members. It was a great opportunity to jumpstart our business. We enjoyed meeting each and every one of you, and for those who purchased our product we hope you will continue to spread the word about us. 4 MVQ has many members who run quilt related businesses, we welcome any information we can give our members regarding these businesses. If you want to plug your site, please contact Pat Lucey. Quilters' Quarters, 59 North Street, Georgetown, MA (just two doors north of Perley School) is open from 11 am to 7 pm Wed., Thurs., Friday and Saturday. Small Business Saturday (which falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday) is November 28th, and most small businesses (including Quilters' Quarters in Georgetown) will be offering sales, refreshments and door prizes to attract new customers. To that end, we will be serving hot cocoa (or tea) and light refreshments (cookies and brownies) along with a 15% discount (20% for guild members ) on all items. Customers in the shop can fill out a card (or leave their own card) to enter a tdoor prize contest. The door prize will be 10 fat quarters of Christmas / Winter fabric (winners choice.) Winner's card will be drawn at the end of the day Saturday. (7pm) Winner does not have to be present at that time to win. Quilt-Quality 100% cotton fabric in all fat quarters will be awarded. All MVQ (and ECNG, by the way) members ALWAYS have a 15% discount (and sometimes more) at Quilters' Quarters if they mention that they are guild members (I may not remember on my own to give them the discount.) Rick and I are going to close our shops during January and February to save on the heating budget (old barns get VERY cold) and will reopen in March. We will hold an end of year sale and all notions, buttons, pins etc. will be 25% off the last week of December. Lessons will continue as scheduled through those winter months, but will move into the house for warmth and comfort. There will be new fabric collections in stock when we reopen in March; watch for ongoing arrivals at our blog : Shannon Cuddle Fabric will no longer be available at Quilters' Quarters. Moda's Marble Swirl line is currently available, as are the new, free, 6.5" Moda Sampler Block Shuffle patterns. Moda will release the patterns, three per week, on Friday evenings from now through the end of January; 30 blocks in all. The printed patterns can be had at Quilters' Quarters, or can be downloaded from our blog page atquiltersquarters.blogspot.com/p/moda-sampler-block-shuffle.html. Quilters who cannot download the patterns at home can request an copy be sent from Quilters' Quarters during January when the shop is closed (needlesandpens@comcast.net) If printed paper patterns are desired, leaving four self-addressed stamped envelopes with us will guarantee that the patterns will be received each week in January as they are released and posted on the blog. A Moda Sampler Block Shuffle Party will be offered in mid-march for those who want to swap block patterns with each other.

5 This year instead of making a quilt block for our Guild President Ann Hockmeyer has asked the members to help her with the final requirement to enter the Certified Judge Program. That requirement is to judge a show that has a minimum of 35 quilts. If you d like to help here s what you have to do Theme Favorite Holiday (must be stated on label). Size The sum of the sides cannot exceed 100 inches. Construction 3 Layers (top, batting, back) no false backs. Label Required on back but securely covered with fabric or masking tape. Deadline May 17, The quilts will be displayed at the June meeting (with ribbons) and again at the Guild s Quilt Show in September 30 th & October 1 st Please see Jane Hamel at Guild to sign up or if you have any questions. For this year s Comfort Quilt Project I ve chosen Quilts for Kids. These quilts are given to children in need especially those with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The quilts that our Guild makes will be going to local New Hampshire hospitals. If you d like more information about Quilt for Kids or to download free patterns you can go to their website or you can contact me or janehamel@yahoo.com. When making your quilts the size should be around 34 X 40 (or a little larger), low loft batting, no mono-filament thread, make sure all pins have been removed and PLEASE wash and dry the quilt before you turn it in. UFO AUCTION UFO Silent Auction February 18, Plan ahead to drop off your treasures by bringing them to the December 3rd or January 21st meetings at NECCO. Bev will park her green van close to the front door of the building and be there to accept items between 6:00 PM and 6:50 PM each meeting. It will save a lot of steps! Two challenges: *President s details in the newsletter. * Quilt Show Challenge Have you started thinking about what you want to do for the quilt show challenge yet? Maybe you have fall fabrics out that your basket could be full of fruits and veggies, or maybe your holiday fabrics are near where your basket could be filled with poinsettia s, holiday ornaments, pine cones,.just what will your MVQ basket be filled with? Remember each quilt must have at least ONE basket block in it and be no more than 30 inches on any side. A Tisket, A Tasket, What Is In Your MVQ Basket??? Next year's quilt show will be held at the Hope Community church in Newburyport, MA on September 30 and October 1st, with setup day September 29th. We need three Chairs - one for the Kitchen,one for Vendors and one for Check-in. Please consider helping us with this event as you go about the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holidays. 7 Minutes of October 15, General Meeting Ann Hockmeyer, President Ann suggests one can go to the Ask Me Table if you have questions about anything or need information. A thank you note was received from Ildi Tary and read to the membership. A thank you note was received from the NE Rehab Hospital regarding MVQ s Comfort Quilts they received last June. Everyone should have received a packet of information that was handed out when you entered. They included Directions to NECCO. If you have a difficult time driving at night, Ann suggested driving there during the daytime to get familiar with the area. Also included was a Save the Date for the next quilt show. These will also go to Cocheco and The Gathering. And also included, a list of things to bring to the December meeting, our Christmas Party. Nancy Dempsey needs help setting up for that meeting. Ann explained she is trying to get her certification in Quilt Judging, and asks for a President s Challenge. Ann needs at least 35 quilts to judge. Jane has more information. Let her know if you are interested in joining this challenge. Thanks to Bev V. for tonight s Sew and Know Five methods of Flying Geese. There is a clipboard going around for you to sign up to sit with the raffle quilt at The Gathering in November. Congratulations to the Topsfield Fair winners from MVQ. Ann Hockmeyer, Judy Lynn, Linda Lydecker, Sue Harnden, Bev Valle. MVQ got all the top honors! Tonight s Christmas Block should be on the back table by the break. Winners will be drawn at that time. Also at the break, there is a Book Sale by members. Left over books will go toward the UFO Auction. October 17 Open Sew. There is room for 10. Sign up tonight. Directions available at the back table. For the May meeting, save your selvages! Cut them 1 ½ or 2 inches wide. There are a few different projects that can be done. At tonight s meeting, there are pressing boards available for sale after we use them at the meeting, made by Joey Zizza and his friend Sam. They are $27.50 each. Minutes of the September meeting, motion to accept those minutes as posted. Passed. Jane Hamel VP - Jane talked about the Comfort Quilt project this year, called Quilts for Kids. They will go to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, NH for their children. There are patterns on their website Jane will have kits ready for December and labels for the quilts. The only request they have is to please wash the quilt before it is donated. They will also send you a quilt kit for $6, minus the batting. You may use your own fabric, if you wish. Lin Caiado Quilt Show Lin told us about the next quilt show. It will be at Hope Community Church in Newburyport, MA, September 30 and October 1, There are still a few openings that need to be filled. See Lin if you can help. Deb Kelso Mystery Quilt Deb briefly explained this year s mystery quilt. There are directions for Part One at the back table. Directions will also be available on the blog. The meeting place has been confirmed. Break The Christmas block winners, Mary Lou Kilcoyne, and Bev Valle. Monthly Fabric Raffle was won by Liz Swan. Door prizes were won by Brenda Patterson, Sharon Brown and Judy Lynn. Tonight s Speaker, Debbie Janes. We were all given everything we needed to make a fusible turtle. Debbie explained how to do this project, and showed 2 completed projects framed. She was very helpful if you had questions. The project needs to be finished at home, fusing it to your background, and finishing the quilt as a wallhanging, or choosing a frame. Show and Tell Meeting adjourned just after 9 PM.
