MVQ was established in PR ES I D ENT S MES S AG E I am always astonished as to the amount of talent in our guild. Every show and tell is spectacular, as are the projects worked on during the Kennebunk retreats. Take time to invite everyone you know to our quilt show, by word of mouth, snail mail, , face book, tweets, etc. so they can see your glorious quilts and enjoy the show along with you. Imagine if every guild member invited10 people, we d have over 1250 people there to see the show. That would be one way to make the show a success! 2 Here is the Supply List for the upcoming "Poppy" 3D applique class on Saturday, April 19th from 9:30 to 3:30 pm. There is still some spots available. Come and join us. From Michele Kincaid "My poppies bloom better on the wall than in the garden! One of my favorite flowers, the poppy has a great range of color shades to draw from. The class makes a small version of my original poppy wall quilt and gives you the basic machine appliqué techniques and explores the 3D and machine quilting details. You may choose any poppy color you like." Supply list 12" squares (minimum)of shades (lights and darks) for flowers 1/3 yd of 3-5 black prints for background 6 x6 black solid (or nearly) for center of flower black and matching rayon threads for quilting 20 x 30 cotton backing 20 x 30 cotton batting Mystery Quilt Part 6 We re assuming that you re busy finishing other projects for the Quilt Show right now, so we ll do another two month long step. This round is going to be made of Flying Geese. Posted on our website, under Projects, Mystery Quilt part 6, is a newish method of making Flying Geese that you may not have tried yet. Check it out t. The beautiful, , blue and White Raffle quilt is almost ready. We are looking for a longarm quilter to quilt it for us. If you are that someone please contact either Mary Jo Ray or Betty Hastings. The next Block Raffle will be started in April. It will be "Blocks from the Orient" Participants will receive a strip of golden oriental fabric. More details will be posted on the blog. 4 Minutes of March Meeting Bev Valle, President called the meeting to order at 7 P.M. and introduced the evening s vendor; Mary Jane Carey, owner of The Christmas Shoppe. Nominating Committee: Bev asked for more volunteers for this committee. President s Blocks: Bev has chosen to use this year s blocks to make Comfort Quilts which need to be completed in time for presentation at the June meeting. Directions are on our website. Raffle Quilt : Betty Hastings asked for more ticket selling help at MQX, and got what she needed. Raffle Quilt : Mary Jo Ray informed us that the quilt is being pieced in three horizontal sections, which will then be joined together to make a Queen-size quilt top. She read the names of the members who contributed blocks or strips to make sure that she had included everyone. Quilt Show: The Silent Auction and the Penny Raffle need more items and, although these will be gratefully received until May 1 st, Bev and Kathy Pearse would like to know what to expect. Pat Lucey explained how the Boutique works. She s also written a short paper entitled Quilt Show 101, which was available on the front table, and will be on our website, for the edification of our newer members. Maddie Burke passed around sign-up sheets for working at the Quilt Show. (Every member is required to give 2 hours of work to the Quilt Show.) More paid advertising is needed for the show booklet; ads must be submitted by 3/29. Ann Stobbs is collecting the quilt entry forms which are also due by 3/29. Deb Zukas will be seeking donations of bottled water, soda (mostly diet), and individually wrapped baked goods for the kitchen. Please don t bring baked goods until the Friday and/or Saturday of the show. Kennebunk Retreats: Kathy Pearse announced that prices have gone up so, this Spring s retreaters owe just a little bit more, please talk to Kathy. The next retreat will be in mid-november. Programs: Sue Richards spoke about the speakers and workshops scheduled for the rest of the year. Several beautiful quilts were seen during Show and Tell. Block Raffle: Make Me a Star blocks were won by Carol Sullivan and Barbara Callard. Monthly Raffle: The batik fat quarters were won by Rosemary Bray. Speaker: Sue Richards introduced Pam Weeks who spoke about her collection and research into Civil War Quilts, with a special emphasis on Pot-holder Quilts. curator@nequiltmuseum.org The next General Meeting will be Thurs. 5 The Art of Quilting with Fabric and thread! Friday May 2 nd 9AM 5PM and Saturday May 3 rd 9AM 4PM at Timberland Jr High School, Plaistow, NH. Hopefully all the entries have been sent. We still need some Ads for the booklet. Our total now is $ and we would need $ to pay for a full booklet. I will still collect applications until April 10 th. Please think about purchasing an Ad. At the April meeting, we will have the entry numbers, drop off information and the labels ready to be picked up. The information will also be on the website. Remember to sign the volunteer list and bring in fat quarters, threads and sewing notions for our door prize baskets. If you have some supplies for the kitchen and would like to bring them to the meeting, one of the committees can take it. Thank You! Hello MVQ, I am the new president of North Parish Quilters we will be having our upcoming fundraiser in May and I was wondering if we could have the following posted in your newsletter and/or web page. We are of course always happy to post any announcements of yours. Please let me know if this would be possible. Our friends at North parish Quilt Guild are planning their Annual Event; a different twist this year and hopefully we can bring a friend and support them. North Parish Quilters will host a fashion show and auction. It will be an enjoyable evening biding on UFO s at the silent auction and finding bargains at the dollar table and white elephant table. Win one of the raffle baskets or door prizes offered. Enjoy a fashion show of beautiful bags, purses, and totes made by members and filled with yards of fabric, books, patterns, notions, gift certificates and other goodies. Bid on them and take some home for yourself or as gifts. Quilts and other handmade items will also be auctioned. Admission is free, plenty of parking, and lots of homemade treats and coffee or tea. For directions and more info visit Thank you-kim Blanchard I am not saying that we should be careless in making our quilts or aim to make quilts that are sloppy or slipshod. Not at all. I think we should always try to do good work, should AIM for some kind of standard or even perfection. But we should not beat ourselves up if we don't make it every time, particularly if we are just learning, either quilting itself or a new technique. We're not all quilting in an attempt to win a ribbon, but if you are, then that's great. You should be proud. What I meant was that we should never let others judge our quilts according to their standards. They may be in an entirely different place than we are. We should not be afraid or let anyone keep us from trying to do something just because we're worried they may think it isn't "good enough" (according to their standards).
