MVQ was established in PR ES I D ENT S MES S AG E I m so happy for our guild right now! The quilt show was spectacular with Gail and Helen at the helm. Thank you ladies for a great job very well done! Congratulations to all the ribbon winners who once again wowed the judge! He will make you laugh and you will be inspired. At the beginning of the meeting we will quickly vote for our executive board and then let him speak as we expect many guests. When he s finished, we will break and then continue the business part of our meeting and wrap up with show and tell. I m happy to say that we are fortunate to have filled most positions for next year but we still need someone to volunteer to chair the quilt show and someone for the 16/17 program. Please consider joining our fabulous group (our army) of volunteers! Call or me with questions if you need to. You will get to know so many more members and become an integral part of our guild as we grow and move forward into an exciting new year! Joe Cunningham How can a quilt that looks so complex be so simple? Rock the block with a simple process that leads to unavoidable originality. Fun, easy, & yet deeply satisfying & eye-opening, this class will have you inventing your own ways to make block quilts all your own. (Requires 4 yards of fabric) $

2 2017 Raffle Quilt Fabric Guidelines 1 Set is equal to (3) four inch squares of fabric all cut from the same fabric. OR a larger set of up to (5) four inch squares all of the same fabric. Give us all you got! We need a variety of colors in lights, mediums and darks, quilt shop quality and perhaps newer to your stash. Clear tones, fabrics that read as one color, prints, textured solids, subtle stripes, plaids, checks, dots, geometric. Think all colors like: Turquoise, teal, seafoam and jade; lime, mint, olive, tarragon, and greens from the garden; red, burgundy, berry, pink, magenta, coral, melon, peach, tangerine, orange; daffodil, butter, honey yellow and soft gold, cool grays light and mediums; lilac, grapey purple or grayed purple, amethyst; and the blues, denim blue, navy, royal, marine and periwinkle; a few browns, chestnut, chocolate and tan. Just NO old stuff, no fabrics that are more than 50% white, huge prints which do not read as any particular color and true solids. Hope this helps. NEW MEETING LOCATIONS We are looking for a new meeting location for our monthly meetings. Handicap accessible, all on first floor or elevator, better heating, reasonable price, seating for at least 100 plus space for the tables we usually put around edges and as central a location for members as possible. If you know of a location in your town or another town please let Ann Hockmeyer know so the new committee can research the location MVQ Quilter of the Year: We are looking for your suggestions for the next Quilter of the Year. We have no list of previous winners other than the past 4 years! SO, if you have a list or know someone who has been quilter of the year, please let us know. If you have any suggestions for the next Quilter of the year, along with why they should be the recipient, we would love to hear your suggestions! 5 Red, White and Blue and Celebrating 35 Years of MVQ!. Thanks to everyone for their help all four days and for their entries to make the show a visually great one. All our fears of having to move to the High School seemed to be in vain as there were many positive comments about how bright the location was and talented a group of quilters we all are. June 18 th Lecture: Waste Not, Want Not.your Time Gladi Porsche, M Gladi Porsche Medical doctor, musician, blogger and Cocheco Guild member. Gladi is an appliqué & traditional quilter who is using her free time to create lovely, intricate & award winning quilts. 7 Merrimack Valley Quilters General Meeting April 16, P.M. 67 members and 4 guests were present. Ann Hockmeyer, President called the meeting to order and introduced our much appreciated, last minute fill-in vendor; Terry Crawford Palardy of Quilters Quarters in Georgetown, MA. Nominating Committee: Betty Dahlquist has found nominees for next year s executive committee, and for several of the chairperson positions, but there are still many openings for volunteers. Programs: Signe Kaleel showed us examples of what we would be learning at her Scrap Queen Unleashed! workshop on Saturday, April 18 th at the Georgetown Library. Lyn Grenier spoke about Joe Cunningham, our May speaker and Rock the Block workshop teacher. Raffle Quilt : Bev Valle is still seeking the last few kits/blocks, and returning deposits. Quilt Show: Specific requests, detailed instructions and information were disseminated by Gail Wozniak, Ann Hockmeyer, Bev Valle, Carrie Zizza, and Lyn Grenier. Door Prizes were won by Terry Palardy, Carrie Zizza, Andrea Bursaw, Gerry McLellan, and Maddie Burke. Monthly Raffle: The Asian inspired Fat Quarter pack was won by Ann Hockmeyer. Tonight s Program: We were treated to the Quilting Journeys of three delightful and entertaining members Ann Hockmeyer, Liz Swan, and Maddie Burke who taught us a lot about their quilting specialties, and about themselves.
