3 Check out our new workshops and classes! A Holiday C Quilting/Sewing Gingerbread House Making for Kids of All Ages! Kids! Invite Grandma, Mom or any special adult to spend the morning with you. Together, we will create an old-fashioned gingerbread house for you to share with your loved ones. Everything you need for your masterpiece will be provided for you. (These are the chairs with the holes around the perimeter.) Join us for two days of instruction and go home with a completed chair! The instructor will guide you as you complete the 9 steps in caning the seat. (It s suggested that any refinishing of the chair be completed first.) Bring your chair and join us for this three hour class to learn to replace the pressed cane and spline. Date: Saturday, October 28 Time: 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Instructor: Kaye Galvin Skill Level: Beginner Class Fee: $1 Member/$6 Non-Member Supply Fee: $1.00 payable with registration Black Bird Autumn Part I Striking fall colors, simple piecing techniques and wool appliqué come together in this attractive wall hanging to decorate your home for fall! Black Bird Autumn by Calico Patch is being offered as a 2-part class. Part I will concentrate on simple piecing techniques of Half Square Triangles, Flying Geese and Nine Patches. Participation in Part I and Part II is not required but we would love to have you! Date: Saturday, October 1, 2017 Time: 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Instructor: Anita Roth Skill Level: Advanced Beginner Class Fee: $17 Member/$20 Non-Member Black Bird Autumn Part II Part II of the 2-part Black Bird Autumn class will concentrate on adding the wool appliqué to the borders of your quilt top made in Part I. Students may choose to participate in Part II only, but a completed quilt top is required for the addition of the wool appliqué. After participating in one, or both classes, students will be rewarded with a stunning quilt top to decorate your home for fall! Date: Saturday, November 11, 2017 Time: 10:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Instructor: Anita Roth Skill Level: Advanced Beginner Class Fee: $17 Member/$20 Non-Member Mini Quilt English Paper Piecing The pattern Mini Quilt is selected from the book Quilting On The Go...English Paper Piecing by Sharon Burgess. This table topper measures only 1 ¼ and is made entirely of squares, rectangles and 8 pointed stars. It is constructed using only English Paper Piecing (EPP). No sewing machine required! If you have ever wanted to try your hand at English Paper Piecing, this is your chance. The individual shapes are easy-to-manage size, even if it is your first attempt at EPP! 4 2017/2018 Fall/Winter Class Schedule D Glass Blowing F Cooking Hands-on Glass Blowing This memorable experience will give you the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed glass artist Mark Matthews to create your own ornament, pumpkin, flower or cup. You ll get to select the colors for your piece, help Mark turn the molten glass into your own artwork and get an up close chance to learn more about glass making. Please indicate on your registration form date, time and if you would like a flower, ornament, pumpkin or cup. Because the pieces will need to go through a cooling process, arrangements will be made at the time of the class to pick up your piece later or have it shipped. Date: Saturday, October 28 or Sunday, October 29 Saturday session times: 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 1:0, 2:0 or :0 Sunday session times: 12:00, 1:00, 2:00 or :00 Instructor: Mark Matthews Skill Level: Ages 10 and up Class Fee: $ Member/$ Non-Member, supplies included Cup - $9 Member/$1 Non-Member, supplies included Infusion Extracts s Style! In this fun-filled class students will learn to make infused extracts in three flavors; lemon, orange and vanilla. The finished extracts are used to enhance flavor in cooking and baking: pies, pound cakes, baked beans, and sweet potatoes are just a few of the possibilities. Each student will take home a bottle of each extract. The class will be held in the 1920s Grime homestead; students will listen to 1920s music and enjoy a glass of wine as they work. Costumes are encouraged a perfect opportunity to channel the style of Downtown Abbey or The Great Gatsby! A glass of wine included in class fee. You ll make a complete wooden bucket from start to finish using the same tools and techniques coopers have been using for centuries. From making the staves and bottom to assembling and banding the bucket, this will be a great and memorable experience! 5 2017/2018 Fall/Winter Class Schedule G Basket Making Wine Basket Making Gather your best girlfriends and come have a great time making this beautiful and practical wine basket. This sturdy basket has a wooden base and an oak handle fitted into the base, with plenty of room for a towel and a bottle of wine. It would be a wonderful gift basket too, filled with a sparkling beverage and other treats. One glass of wine included in class fee. We are excited to offer our craft apprentice program! You ll get on-on-one training from our own master craftsmen and make a beautiful work to take home. This memorable experience will remain with you for a life time. We ll work with you to arrange a day and time that works best for you once you register. Skill Level: Beginner I Spinning Spinning Come and learn to turn wool into yarn! You will have an opportunity to work with various spinning tools (drop spindle, great wheel, castle wheel, saxony wheel) and use them to spin yarn. Supplies are included in the class fee. Wheels for spinning will be available, but you are encouraged to bring your own drop spindle or spinning wheel in good working condition with you. In addition, you will receive a discount on spinning supplies and books from our spinning shop. Experience American Christmas traditions of the 1920s as you visit the Grime Home, make a Christmas novelty at our Tin Shop, learn about Christmas shopping in the Elmira Depot, act out The Night Before Christmas in the District 16 Schoolhouse, and sing 1920s Christmas songs in St. Mark s Lutheran Church. Holiday shopping available at the Herb Shop, Lauber s General Store, Gift Shop, Glass Shop and Pottery Shop- all open limited hours during the Holiday Lantern Tours.
