The electrnic prtectin technlgy in the DMC-1122X DeltaMax cntrller allws the ludspeakers t be perated at full capacity with maximum fidelity and reliabi lity. The DMS-1122/85 is a cmpact, full-range ludspeaker system, intded fr high-level sund reinfrcemt 10 turing sund and permant installatins. The electrnic circuits are designed t prvide ptimum audi perfrmance, ev wh the audi drive level is increased fr maximum ludness. A high-perfrmance cmpressr, with autmatically variable cmpressin rati, is cntrlled by special speaker mdeling circuits t prvide speaker temperature prtectin and amplifier anticlip limiting. Speaker excursin prtectin is accmplished with a vltage-limit system which perates frm an excursin versus frequcy mdeling circuit. Frnt panel indicatr lights shw input level, cmpressr gain reductin, and HF and LF utput limit threshlds fr excursin, temperature and amplifier pwer. Operatin f all prtectin functins is cmpletely autmatic. Variable lw-frequcy shelving equalizatin is available t cntrl the bass buildup f multiple units used in arrays. The DeltaMax system will wrk with any prfessinal pwer amplifier within the stated pwer and gain range. See amplifier requiremts sectin. Principle f Operatin Refer t the blck diagram in Figure 3. The signal path cnsists f an active differtial input circuit which drives a VCA, which is cntrlled by a special cmpressr circuit. After the YCA is a furth-rder Linkwitz-Riley crssver circuit. The high-frequcy utput has an equalizer which tlatts the frequcy respnse f the cnstant-directivity hrn and cmpressin driver frm their natural mass-laded respnse characteristic. The lw-frequcy utput has a delay equalizer t cmpsate fr the relative physical psitining f the LF and HF drivers, and their actual phase respnse at the crssver frequcy. An underdamped secnd-rder high-pass filter, cmbined with a variatin f a first-rder shelving lw-bst functin prvides ptimum lw-frequcy respnse with the DeltaMax ludspeakers. Figure shws the cmbined respnse f the DMC-1152X cntrller and the DMS- 1152/64 speaker system. Figure 2 shws the respnse f the cntrller alne. The utput sectins prvide electrnically balanced. lw-distrtin di ffertial dri ve signals. The cmpressr has bth a signal cntrl input and a cmpressin-rati cntrl input. The cntrl vltages are develped frm the sse channels. The primary dynamic actin (gain reductin) f the cmpressr is cntrlled by a dual-ti me-cnstant detectin circuit driv by rectified audi ssed at the speaker terminais. The cmpresson rato abve the threshld is determined by the cnditin f the speakers. Temperature mdeling circuits will increase this cmpressin rati wh it becmes necessary. Cmpressin will als increase t prevt amplifier clipping il' this functin is selected. The cmpressr gain transfer has a gradually changing slpe acrss its threshld. This sft-knee design reduces the audibility f the cmpressin. The cmpressin rati abve the threshld can vary frm : (n effect) t abut 20: (hard limiting). A dynamic, frequcy-ssiti ve vltage limiter at the utput f each frequcy band prtects the speakers frm excursin damage.

Munt the OMC cntrller in a rack cabinet near the pwer amplifier(s) t make wiring easy. :< Grunding >- A widely accepted grunding technique fr audi systems is the star cnnectin (single pint) grund. The final cnfiguratin will be determined by the size f the system and the equipmt used in the system. Hwever, the star-cnnectin grunding system is recmmded as a starting pint. Never lift the third wire safety grund f the ac pwer cable. t prtects against pssible shck hazard. Vtilatin Adequate vtilatin shuld be prvded in the rack t mamtain a reasnable perating temperature. Under any cnditins the ambit temperature inside the rack cabinet shuld nt exceed 60 C (140 OF). Security A security cver and attachmt screws are supplied t prtect the cntrl settings agamst ulllnvlled adjustmts. Cnnectins The OeltaMax cntrller has XLR-type cnnectrs fr signal input and utputs. Pin is shield, pin 2 is high (+), and pin 3 is lw (-). The input is active differtial and the utputs are electrnically balanced. Wh used in an unbalanced cnfiguratin. pin 3 shuld be shrted t grund. The LF and HF sse cnnectins are dualbinding-pst/bananajacks (five-way binding psts). Thc sse inputs are active differtial, abling cnnectin t the utput f mn-bridged amplifiers, and are high impedance, allwing small gauge wire (e.g.. #22 AWG) t be used fr the sse cnnectin. Althugh currt!lw in the sse lines is negligible, they must be capable f handling the high utput vltages f the amplifiers. Amplifier Requiremts The OMS- 122/85 speaker system requires prfessinal pwer amplifiers with the f lwing ratings: LF: watts cntinuus int 8 hms HF: watts cntinuus int 8 hms The use f amplifiers with lwer pwer ratings is acceptable; hwever. the full-pwer capabilities f the OMS speakers will nt be realized. The use f amplifiers with significantly higher pwer ratings is wasteful and may danger the ludspeakers; it is gerally nt recmmded. Under certain circumstances. hwever, higher rated pwer amplifiers are acceptable. t is acceptable t drive the OMS- 122/85 speakers with a stere pwer amp utilizing ne channel t drive the lw frequcies and the ther channel t drive the high frequcies. Fr an extra degree f prtectin wh perating in this cnfiguratin, the user may want t set the HF amplifier calibratin level t the 250-watt psitin t limit excessively high pwer levels frm reaching the cmpressin driver. OMS- 122/85 speakers may be paralleled with ther OMS- 122/85 speakers if the amplifier is capable f delivering adequate pwer t each speaker at the lwer impedance. Under n circumstances shuld OMS-1122/85 and OM'S-1152/64 speakers be paralleled n the same amplifier channels. The utputs shall be electrnically balanced with a level capability f +18 dbu int 600 hms, and male 3-pin XLR-type cnnectrs.
