3 i METHD AND INSTRUMENTATIN The VLF survey was perfrmed using a Genics EM-6 instru ment. The in-phase and quadrature phase cmpnents f the secndar^y vertica magnetic fied were measured and prfied. The in-phas a readings were fitered using the "Fraser Fiter"*-and were as prfied. Fr the nrth-suth ines (Maps 87-2 () and (2)) statin NLK at 24.8 khz in Seatte was used as the transmitter. Fr the ast-west ines (Map 87-2 (3)) statin NSS in Annapis i at 2.4 khz was used. The magnetic survey was perfrmed using a Scintrex MF- fuxgate magnetmeter. Due t the steep magnetic gradients and ack f definabe magnetic trends, the readings were prfied rather than cntured. An attempt was made t tie this survey t S j a previus survey n ines t the nrth f the present survey. Rather arge crrectins (up t 26 gammas per minute) had t be appied t the readings due partiay t the inherent instrument drift and diurna variatins. *The first reading is added t the secnd reading. The sum is subtracted frm the sum f the third and furth readings. The resut is ptted midway between the secnd and third readings.

4 -3 - RESULTS Severa cnductrs were cated as shwn n Maps 87-2, (), (2) and (3)* The ^g, strng cnductr frm Line 700V, 250S (Map 87-2 ()) t Line 900E, 375S (Map 87-2 (2)) cin cides with a narrw anmaus magnetic zne with readings up t 4,000 gammas abve backgrund. The remaining cnductrs have itte significant magnetic crreatin. The cnductrs with the argest ampitudes may refect reativey shaw verburden and/r higher cnductivities. The indicated cnductrs n the east-west ines, Map 87-2 (3) are nt we-defined and the indicated trends may nt be vaiji, especiay if the ines are nt perpendicuar with the strike. There are severa highy anmaus negative magnetic readings which are nt assciated with high psitive readings. The vaidity f these readings is questinabe. They are pssiby caused by instrumentatin mafunctin. Exampes are: Line 900E, 287S, Map 87- (2), reading gammas; Line 00V, 388, Map 87- (), reading gammas. The vaidity f the zne f negative readings n Map 87- (2), Line 000E frm *S t 660S is as questinabe.
