3 -1- INTRDUCTIN A gephysical survey, utilizing the magnetic methd was cmpleted n the East Eby prperty f Butte Canyn Resurces Incrprated. The survey was perfrmed by the staff f Derry, Michener, Bth A: Wahl (DMBW) under the direct supervisin f the authr. The survey was cnducted during the perid ctber 15 t ctber 31, This wrk was part f an explratin prgram recmmended by DMBW in a reprt f April 15, This reprt is fr assessment credits and a technical data statement is cntained in Appendix 1. PRPERTY LCATIN. DESCRIPTIN AND ACCESS The East Eby prperty is lcated in Eby Twnship, abut 12 km suthwest f the twn f Kirkland Lake and abut 5 km sutheast f Kengami Lake as shwn in Figure 1. 6 -2- DMBW has nt examined title t the claims nr substantiated their physical bundaries and, accrdingly, expresses n pinin as t validity f title and prperty descriptin. Access t the prperty is excellent. Highway 11 crsscuts the nrtheast crner f the prperty and there are bushrads and trails which lead t the ther sectins. In additin, a wide clearing fr the Trans-Canada Pipeline crsscuts the centre f the prperty, prviding excellent mbility. GELGY Essentially all f the cnslidated rcks in the Kirkland Lake area are f Precambrian age. Prterzic frmatins cnsist f Gwganda Frmatin sediments f the Cbalt Grup, and tw generatins f diabase dykes. The mre areally extensive Archean stratigraphy in the area can essentially be divided int fur majr stratigraphic categries: (1) Pre-Timiskaming, Skead Grup, mafic t felsic flws and pyrclastics, chemical sediments and lcal ultramafic flws and intrusives. (2) Timiskaming Grup fine- t carse-grained clastic metasediments, chemical metasediments, alkaline flws, tuffs and breccias, felsic vlcanics and kmatiic (ultramafic) flws. (3) Pst-Timiskaming Highway 11 basalts and lcal kmatiites (Kenjevis Grup). (4) Varius gabbric, syenitic and granitic Jntrusives. The East Eby prperty is underlain by a nrtheast striking, subvertically dipping sequence f felsic t mafic vlcanics and vlcangenic sediments intruded by varius types f plutnic units. DERRY. 7 -3- Based n gvernment mapping, a majr unit cnsisting dminantly f felsic flws and pyrclastics and irn frmatin hrizns transgresses the prperty frm the nrtheast t the suthwest. Tw diamnd drill hles cllared in the unit indicate that the package als cntains impure medium t carse-grained sandstnes, arkse hrizns and a cherty, aphanitic, irn-pr equivalent t an irn frmatin. The bttm half f ne drill hle dminantly cnsists f a kmatiite flw structurally verlying a thick kmatiitic sediment. These units prbably represent the basal successin f the Highway 11 Basalts. Bth xide and sulphide facies irn frmatins, having assciatin with gld mineralizatin, exist n the prperty. Based n reginal mapping, there are three types f intrusive rcks n the prperty: early mafic t ultramafic stcks, dykes and sills; late Archean felsic intrusives, presumably part f the Rund Lake Bathlith; and the late Archean alkalic tt stck. Prterzic diabase dykes undubtedly crsscut prtins f the prperty. SURVEY PARAMETERS AND PRESENTATIN Magnetic Survey l A Scintrex IGS-2 with an MP-4 ttal field prtn magnetmeter sensr was used fr the survey. This instrument is micrprcessr-cntrlled and can be prgrammed t autmatically recrd the statin lcatin, time and magnetic value. Magnetic diurnal variatins were mnitred by a Scintrex MP-3 magnetic base statin. Instrument specificatins are cntained in Appendix 2. Readings were taken alng grid lines spaced 100 m apart at 25 m statin intervals. In all, 40 line km f data were recrded and stred autmatically fr a ttal f 1,600 readings. l Diurnal crrectins t the magnetic field values recrded were autmatically calculated by the micrprcessr-cntrlled base statin recrder after the field data was "dumped" int the data strage device at the end f each day's data cllectin. Using mdified sftware by datapltting, survey maps f magnetic values and cnturs, at an interval f 100 nt, were generated at a scale f 1:5,000 with apprpriate title and legend (see maps , -02, -03, -04). RESULTS AND CNCLUSINS l Main Blck The backgrund ttal field magnetic value in the area is abut 58,750 nt. Magnetic anmalies frm apprximately 250 t ver several thusand nt abve backgrund are present n the prperty with belw backgrund values ccurring within the same rder-f-magnitude. The mst striking feature is a very high amplitude respnse in the suthern part f the grid. It frms tw parallel znes trending nt the prperty frm the suth and west in a nrth-nrtheast directin. Previus drilling in the area intersected irn frmatin and ne utcrp f irn frmatin underlies a prtin f the anmaly cmplex. Alng the sutheast side f the claim grup there is a brad area f high amplitude magnetic respnses. The nrthern part f this area is underlain by syenite, and n dubt, is the surce f the magnetic respnses in this area. In the nrthwest third f the survey area, the magnetic patterns are mre erratic and cntrted. Just t the east f this area n line 200 west, nrth f the baseline, there are a series f alternating high amplitude negative and psitive anmalies which are crss-cut by mre reginally trending nrtheast magnetic linears. Based n gvernment l" * 1/4 mile mapping, prtins f all f these erratic anmalus areas are underlain by basalt, andesite, mafic tuff and gabbr. 9 -5- units ccurs in several lcatins and prbably indicates that the main magnetic unit is a gabbr althugh a ne-t-ne relatinship between high magnetic amplitudes and gabbr utcrp is nt always present. The area is crsscut with mafic dykes which als prbably cmplicate the magnetic signatures seen. In additin t the areas thught t reflect magnetic gabbrs} there are extensive belw backgrund magnetic areas in the west part f the survey area. Part f these larger areas f backgrund t belw backgrund magnetic respnses may be related t nnmagnetic andesites and agglmerates that have been mapped in the area. The anmaly patterns suggest that several fault structures may be present. A majr nrth-nrthwest break appears t bisect the prperty while mre subtle east-west trending structures are evident in the west part f the area. Nrth Blck The magnetic amplitude variatins are similar t thse seen in the Main blck. The western quarter f the grid is dminated by a high amplitude area frm which extends an east trending high amplitude zne. This zne is in the nrthern part f the grid area. Basalts and felsic intrusives f syenite are mapped in this area but the high amplitude magnetic znes suggest that either irn frmatin r mafic phases f the intrusives are mre likely t be present rather than felsic intrusives. 10 -6- RECMMENDATINS l The irn frmatins in the area are knwn t have an assciatin with gld mineralizatin. Areas f alteratin assciated with sulphide irn frmatin and magnetite/hematite irn frmatin may ccur in structurally cmplex areas f faulting and flding. Such areas may be recgnized frm their magnetic/cnductive characteristics and, if utcrp expsure exists, frm their alteratin prducts and detailed mapping. Additinal gephysics, cnsisting f electrmagnetic surveys in cnjunctin with a mapping and sampling prgram, frmed the basis f recmmendatins made by DMBW in their reprt f April 15, 1987 n the prperty. The electrmagnetic surveys are cmpleted and are in the prcess f being evaluated. A detailed prgram f mapping and prspecting is planned fr the next field seasn at which time further recmmendatins relating t drill testing f favurable explratin targets can be made. DERRY, MICHENER.
