Newcastle Cal Infrastructure Grup (NCIG) Rail Bridge (2014) Client: Lend Lease Cntract Value: $110,000 Detailed design f piled fundatins, reinfrced sil walls and assessment f interactin effects with grund imprvement and 8m high embankments n sft sils fr new rail bridge at the NCIG site. Piling Cntractrs Pty Ltd ( ): APLNG Dwnstream Prcessing plant Structures (2012) Main Cntractr: Bechtel Pty Ltd Cntract Value: $16M Prject cmprised the supply, installatin and testing f apprximately 1,600 cated, driven steel piles n Curtis Island, Queensland. The prject was particularly challenging frm a lgistics standpint with all plant, persnnel and materials being ferried t the Island frm Gladstne Prt. Piles were driven t a depth f apprximately 18m thrugh engineered fill and alluvial sils and were funded in the underlying weathered rck. The prject als cmprised three static lad tests (cmpressin, tensin and lateral) and apprximately 70 dynamic lad tests. QCLNG Upstream Gasfield Infrastructure (2012) Main Cntractr: Thiess Cntractrs Pty Ltd Cntract Value: $12M The prject cmprised the installatin f apprximately 3,000 bred piles fr cmpressr statins and assciated infrastructure. All piles were sleeved in rder t cater fr reactive sils (shrink/swell). Particular challenges fr this series f prjects included extremely variable grund cnditins acrss the difference gas fields requiring a wide range f drilling techniques ranging frm truck munted rigs fr sils and weak rcks thrugh t heavy duty crawler munted rigs required t drill high strength rck. A rapidly evlving design brief and stringent site peratinal cnstraints acrss a number f different cncurrently perating sites als psed challenges fr the prject team. Hunter Expressway Alliance - Minefilling ( ) Main Cntractr: HEA (Thiess, PB, Hyder) Cntract Value: Apprx. $48M This $48M sub-alliance invlved the targeted drilling filling f 100 year ld decmmissined cal mines t depths f up t 120m t facilitate the cnstructin f the Hunter Expressway viaduct structures and sensitive at grade structures. Drilling and filling wrks cmprised apprximately 145 km f directinal drilling acrss sme 1,500 hles and the injectin f 200,000m 3 f grut paste int the mine wrkings. The mine fill prject at the Hunter Expressway represented ne f the largest and mst challenging mine filling prjects ever carried ut in Australia. Stringent envirnmental and indigenus heritage restrictins cmbined with dense bush land and extremely hilly terrain prvided further challenges and required extremely accurate directinal drilling and gruting patterns.
