1 CREATIVE COMMUNITY Art In/ Fr/ With Cmmunities 16th ASEAN and 6 th ASEAN+3 Yuth Cultural Frum Nvember 11-16, 2018 Atene de Manila University, Manila, Philippines CONCEPT NOTE Making art is ften a scial activity that invlves sharing, cllabrating, and building relatinships with ther peple. Onging creative endeavrs are psitining artists and cultural wrkers as agents f valuable scial impact. Creative Cmmunity, the ASEAN + 3 Yuth Cultural Frum 2018 lks int the meaningful participatin f the yuth in their cmmunities thrugh varius creative means. The frum is designed primarily as an explratry platfrm t identify the intersectins f art as creative expressin, culture, and cmmunity life. It will likewise be an investigatin f the many ways we define cmmunity that can lead t a better understanding f the rle f creative wrk in the regin frm the perspective f the Asian yuth. Activities will allw participants t bserve innvatins n traditinal and emerging art frms that emphasizes the dynamic quality f culture. Frum cmpnents will be curated thematically arund tpics such as develping mechanisms fr critique and understanding, building audiences, and transfrmative cllective learning. The frum ffers venues thrugh which participants can re-evaluate their visin and rles as artists and cultural leaders that can drive reginal cllabratins. FORUM OBJECTIVES The ASEAN + 3 Yuth Cultural Frum 2018 will challenge participants t engage in, and reflect n varius mdes f cmmunal participatin thrugh different mdes f artistic prductin. Further, the frum hpes: (1) t intrduce participants t a range f cmmunity engagement thrugh the arts as practiced in the regin; (2) t encurage participants t cnsider issues regarding cllabratins, critiquing, and engaging publics that are inherent in the field f creative wrk; and (3) t build an AUN database f artists, creatives, and their prgrams with the intentin f fstering cllabratin amng participating individuals/universities and; (4) t allw fr the re-imaginatin f ways thrugh which the yuth can use their talents and interest in the creative arts t engage cmmunities.

2 PROGRAM COMPONENTS Creative Cmmunity, the ASEAN + 3 Yuth Cultural Frum 2018, has been designed t emphasize the cmmunal nature f artistic prductin thrugh the fllwing cmpnents: Keynte Lecture. A thirty (30) minute plenary talk by an esteemed academic and art practitiner, the keynte will establish the framewrk f the frum and effectively articulate the bjectives f the 4-day prgram. Cuntry perfrmances. Participating universities frm the same cuntry are requested t cllabrate with ne anther n ne (1) perfrmance. The perfrmance may be in the frm f mvement r dance, theater, live music, spken wrd, r any ther frmat that the university deems apprpriate. Universities must prepare all prps, cstumes, and technical requirements f their presentatin. Further guidelines n perfrmance space will be prvided. University pster presentatin. Each will be requested t prepare either a paper/pster presentatin n existing artistic initiatives in their institutins. The infrmatin will be frmatted in A1 and will be printed int a bk t be given t all participants. Further guidelines will be prvided. Parallel participatry arts-based wrkshps. Participants are t select frm fur (4) parallel wrkshps n music, dance, theater, and visual arts. The wrkshps will be designed in such a way that they will be interesting and participatry fr students with varying levels f experience and cmpetencies. The wrkshps will be designed in such a way that they will be interesting and participatry fr students with varying levels f experience and cmpetencies. 3 Cmmunity cultural exchange. Participants will have the pprtunity t meet a Filipin indigenus cmmunity. They are t select frm fur (4) parallel cmmunity cultural exchange wrkshps n music, dance, theater, and visual arts. The wrkshps will allw them t interact with the cmmunity at the same time learn abut their culture and artistic practices. Imprvisatinal cllabrative prductin. Taking inspiratin frm their immersin with the cmmunity and the wrkshps they have participated in, students will be asked t prepare special prductins t be perfrmed n the clsing ceremny f the frum. Advisers will be assigned t the grups t help them prepare fr the perfrmance. PARTICIPATION T achieve the frum bjectives, the AUN Secretariat and Atene de Manila University kindly request the participating university t nminate fur (4) students and ne (1) faculty member. It wuld be best that the fur students have cnsiderable backgrund in the perfrming arts (theater, dance, music perfrmance) and/r the creative industries (prductin, publicatins, film, phtgraphy and design, dramaturgy). Please be advised the students that they are expected t participate in all activities. Sme f them may be invlved in presentatins (academic r perfrmative) which are t be crdinated per university and per cuntry. Suggested representatin per university as fllws: 2 perfrming artists (1 dancer/theater actr and 1 music perfrmer) 2 creatives (1 creative and 1 visual artist) 1 faculty member It wuld merit bth the prgram and the students if the participating university can nminate a faculty member wh has knwledge and/r experience in fields f artistic practice r cultural management. The faculty member can be the directr/crdinatr f the university cultural affairs ffice r the dean f the faculty f arts. The pster design shuld be laid ut n A1 size (23.4 inches x 33.1 inches) in prtrait rientatin. 2. The university name and lg must appear clearly n the pster. 3. COMMUNITY CULTURAL EXCHANGE: The Aurra Artist residency Prgram and Space The Aurra Artist Residency Prgram and Space (AARPS) is an independent and nn-prfit rganizatin fcused n fulfilling ur visin f building critical cmmunities thrugh shaping creative cmmunities. By zering in n ur fur prgrams art, educatin, research, and cmmunity wrk we aim t (1) fster creative and critical discussins n the integral rle f art, culture, and creativity in empwering cmmunities, (2) create platfrms fr art-making in grund cmmunities, (3) initiate prgrams fr art, educatin, research, and cmmunity engagement/wrk fr cmmunity empwerment, and (4) help build a resilient and sustainable cmmunity thrugh creative means, prjects, and ther platfrms. AARPS has been launched nly in 2017 but has already initiated and launched seminal art prjects with the cmmunity, including the Art in the Hd public art installatin in April 2017 and the very first Adw ne Dmaget r Dumagat Day Festival, which cncluded nly last May The AARPS is lcated in Barangay Butas na Bat in the third class Municipality f Dingalan, Aurra Prvince, n the Suth-East cast f the Philippines. It sits in the middle f the magnificent Sierra Madre muntain ranges n ne side and the vast Pacific Ocean n the ther, and this gegraphic lcatin basts f it rich bidiversity bth frm its marine and terrestrial surces. The Municipality f Dingalan, Aurra, is made up f 14 villages, namely Davil- Davilan, Dikapanikian, Paltic, Butas na Bat, Caragsacan, Umiray, Ibna, Tanawan, Aplaya, Matawe, and Bayan/City Center. Fur f these villages are hme t the

5 many Dumagat indigenus peples cmmunities, particularly Matawe, Dikapanikian, Umiray, and Dikapanikian. The livelihd f peple in Dingalan includes fishing, kaingin, farming, handicraft, and ther creative industries. Recently, the municipality has started t gained ppularity, thus the increase in lcal turism.
