14 Genera Instructions rs Genera Instructions for A r Series Switches & Piot Lights Lights Reays & Sockets Load Current With inductive, capacitive, and incandescent amp oads, inrush current more than 10 times the rated current may cause weded contacts and other undesired effects. he inrush current and steady-state current must be taken into consideration when specifying a timer. Protection Switching an inductive oad generates a counter-eectromotive force (back EMF) in the coi. he back EMF wi cause arcing, which may shorten the contact ife and cause imperfect contact. Appication of a protection circuit is recommended to safeguard the contacts. emperature and Humidity Use the timer within the operating temperature and operating humidity ranges and prevent freezing or condensation. After the timer has been stored beow its operating temperature, eave the timer at room temperature for a suffi cient period of time to aow it to return to operating temperatures before use. Environment Avoid contact between the timer and sufurous or ammonia gases, organic sovents (acoho, benzine, thinner, etc.), strong akaine substances, or strong acids. Do not use the timer in an environment where such substances are prevaent. Do not aow water to run or spash on the timer. Vibration and Shock Excessive vibration or shocks can cause the output contacts to bounce, the timer shoud be used ony within the operating extremes for vibration and shock resistance. In appications with signifi cant vibration or shock, use of hod down springs or cips is recommended to secure a timer to its socket. Setting he time range is caibrated at its maximum time scae; so it is desirabe to use the timer at a setting as cose to its maximum time scae as possibe. For a more accurate time deay, adust the contro knob by measuring the operating time with a watch before appication. s Use mechanica contact switch or reay to suppy power to the timer. When driving the timer with a soid-state output device (such as a two-wire proximity switch, photoeectric switch, or soid-state reay), mafunction may be caused by eakage current from the soid-state device. Since AC types comprise a capacitive oad, the SSR dieectric strength shoud be two or more times the power votage when switching the timer power using an SSR. Generay, it is desirabe to use mechanica contacts whenever possibe to appy power to a timer or its signa inputs. When using soid state devices, be cautious of inrushes and back-emf that may exceed the ratings on such devices. Some timers are speciay designed so that signa inputs switch at a ower votage than is used to power the timer (modes designated as B type). iming Accuracy Formuas iming accuracies are cacuated from the foowing formuas: rs ermina Bocks Repeat Error = ± v - r x 100% Votage Error r v: Average of measured vaues at votage V r: Average of measured vaues at the rated votage = ± 1 x Maximum Measured Vaue Minimum Measured Vaue x 100% 2 Maximum Scae Vaue = ± t - 20 x 100% emperature Error 20 t: Average of measured vaues at C 20: Average of measured vaues at 20 C = ± Average of Measured Vaues - Set Vaue x 100% Setting Error Maximum Scae Vaue Circuit Breakers 858
