3 1. SCOPE This manua expains how to use the Enhanced Digita Access Communications System (EDACS) Jessica Teephone Interconnect System. The Jessica system aows teephones on the Pubic Switched Teephone Network (PSTN) to reach radio users. Conversey, the system aows radio users to make teephone cas. This manua provides a brief expanation of how to access Jessica services, foowed by a more detaied discussion for advanced users. Severa terms used throughout this manua may be unfamiiar to the user. These terms are expained in this section and in the Gossary to hep avoid confusion. Private Branch Exchange (PBX) is a teephone switch commony used in business appications. For exampe, diaing the ast four digits of a teephone number to ca someone ese in your office makes use of a PBX to reach that person. Pubic Switched Teephone Network (PSTN) is a teephone switch for pubic use, as opposed to private use. For exampe, diaing your home teephone number from your office uses a PSTN to reach the home number. An inbound ca is a phone-originated ca to a radio and an outbound ca is a radio-originated ca to a phone. Hang time is a specified time (hang time defaut is 30 seconds at the PBX Interface) during which the Pushto-Tak (PTT) button on a radio must be pressed to continue the ca. If the PTT button is not pushed within the hang time imit, then EDACS disconnects the ca. Conversation time imit is the maximum amount of time (defaut is 5 minutes at the PBX Interface) aowed for a interconnect cas. If a ca exceeds the conversation imit, then EDACS drops the ca. NOTE Access to EDACS Systems features depends on how the EDACS System Administrator has configured the system. Check with your EDACS System Administrator for information on proper usage before accessing the system. 3

4 2. QUICK USAGE GUIDE This section presents a brief summary on how to pace phone cas through the EDACS Jessica system. For more information about the access methods, refer to the detaied usage section MAKING PHONE CALLS FROM AN EDACS RADIO These "generic" instructions for a EDACS radios assume a typica Jessica configuration. To determine the exact sequences to access Jessica features from a specific radio, refer to the operator's manua for that radio. The steps for making phone cas from an EDACS radio are presented beow. Pacing a Ca Initiate the ca by one of the foowing actions: 1. Press the "*" key, enter the destination teephone number, and then depress the PTT button. 2. Enter the destination teephone number, press the "*" key, and then depress the PTT button. 3. Press the specia ca button (typicay SCN or SCAN). Seect the teephone number from the ist and depress the PTT button. Answering a Ca Simpy press the PTT button and hod whie taking. Fu dupex radio users need ony press PTT initiay. Sustaining a Ca Press the PTT button whenever you hear the hang time warning tone to ensure that your ca is not disconnected. EDACS has a "hang time" that wi drop a ca if the user fais to press the PTT button within a specified time (defaut is 30 seconds at the PBX Interface). 5 Ending a Ca Press the cear button on your radio. Pease consut your operator's manua for detais. Common Speed Diaing Consut your System Administrator for the common speed dia numbers. Foow the steps for "Pacing a Ca" and use the common speed dia number CALLING EDACS RADIOS FROM A PHONE For a types of cas to an EDACS radio, phone users hear norma phone tones i.e., ringing unti the caed party answers or the ca times out, or aternativey, a busy tone unti hanging up or the ca times out. Pacing a Ca When caing a radio that has a direct inward dia (DID) number, ca the PSTN number for that group or individua. For a other radios, foow one of the sequences beow. With some systems, the phone user may need to enter an EDACS seector number (not shown here). Vaid ogica identification (LID) numbers range from to 16382, and vaid group identification (GID) numbers range from 0000 to A eading "3" designates a digita ca and a "2" before a GID number designates a group ca. The term "digita" refers to voice transmission in a digita format. First, ca the EDACS teephone number. At the tone, enter the EDACS seector, if necessary. 5

6 To Ca: An individua radio, enter the 5-digit radio ID. A digita individua radio, press digit radio ID. A group of radios, press digit group ID. A digita group of radios, press digit group ID. Exampe 1: To ca radio 6107 Dia the EDACS teephone number. At the dia tone, enter the EDACS seector (optiona). Enter (Remember the LID must be 5 digits, i.e ). 6 Exampe 2: To ca group 372 Dia the EDACS teephone number. At the dia tone, enter the EDACS seector (optiona). Enter (Remember the GID must be 4 digits, i.e. 0372). Some systems wi be set up using feature and authorization codes that are a variabe number of digits. (Contact your System Administrator for more information.) The authorization code must be entered after the EDACS seector and before the digits specifying ca type and radio ID. Exampe 3: This is the same ca to group 372 as described in Exampe 2 except that the authorization code *6*123# is required and the EDACS seector is 8. Dia the EDACS teephone number. At the dia tone, enter the EDACS seector ( 8 ). Enter the authorization code * * #. Enter

7 Ending a ca Simpy hang up the phone. 3. DETAILED USAGE GUIDE The Jessica system contains a sma business teephone switch that aows fexibe use of radios and teephones. The sections beow present instructions on how to use a radio or a teephone to compete severa types of tasks with Jessica RADIO USERS The chart beow shows how to use a radio to accompish severa tasks with Jessica. Task Pacing a PSTN destination ca Pacing a PBX destination ca Receiving a ca Accompishing Task with Jessica See your radio operator's manua for specific usage on interconnect cas. Number requires a Least-Cost Routing (LCR) code as the eading digit of the destination phone number. The LCR is customer-defined, but typicay is "9." Once the number is passed through Jessica and into the PSTN, the radio user wi hear ringing. Once the number is passed through Jessica, the radio user wi hear ringing. To an EDACS radio user, reception of a PSTN- or PBX-originated ca invoves pressing the PTT button to answer it. 7

8 Task DTMF overdia Terminating a ca Accompishing Task with Jessica Consut your radio operator's manua for specific usage. DTMF is aowed in cear voice ony. Note: Currenty, EDACS radios generate the North American DTMF tones. Therefore, to use overdia outside North America, EDACS radios woud be required to generate the appropriate tone set. A radio-originated or PSTN- or PBXoriginated ca may be terminated for a radio with a keypad by pressing the SPC or Cear button. Radios without a keypad may terminate the ca by not keying the radio within the hang time period PHONE USERS The foowing chart shows how to access Jessica features from a teephone. Task Pacing a phoneoriginated ca Accompishing Task with Jessica 1. The PSTN user must dia into the MD110 via a customer-defined pubic number. Once the MD110 answers, it generates a second dia tone. Note: Normay, a user wi skip to step 4, but steps 2 and 3 may be used to obtain more phone privieges where aowed. 8

At the second dia tone, the PSTN user enters the foowing command sequence: "*" + FC + "*" + AC + "#'" FC is the MD110 feature code indicating that an authorization code (AC) foows. This feature code is market-dependent and is typicay a singe digit. For exampe, a "6" is used as the FC in the U.S. AC is the authorization code defined for the caer. The AC is customerdefined and may be from 1 to 7 digits, but cannot begin with "0." 3. Once the phone user has entered the command sequence, a dia prompt is generated. 4. Before the radio ID is entered, the phone user may need to enter the EDACS LCR code. Simiar to the LCR code for radio-originated PSTN cas, the EDACS LCR is customerdefined, but typicay is "7." The PSTN user then enters the EDACS radio ID. 9

10 Task Accompishing Task with Jessica The radio ID is aways a 5-digit number. For an individua ca, the PSTN user enters a 5-digit radio LID. For a group ca, the 4-digit GID must be preceded by a "2," thus forming a 5- digit number. 5. If the PSTN user wishes to pace a digita voice ca, a "3" precedes the 5- digit radio ID. Receiving a radiooriginated ca Terminating a ca The PSTN user receives a radio-originated ca as a norma teephone ca. A radio-originated or PSTN-originated ca is terminated when the PSTN user hangs up the phone. A radio user may aso terminate the ca by pressing the SPC or Cear key, or by aowing the hang time to expire. Depending on the phone system, EDACS may drop a ca after a deay. If PSTN does not provide ine cearing, then the ca is not terminated when the phone hangs up. The radio user must terminate the ca. 10

11 4. GLOSSARY AC DID DTMF FC LCR LID MD110 PBX PSTN Authorization Code -- the MD110 authorization code defined for EDACS interconnect cas. The AC is customer-defined and may be from 1 to 7 digits, but cannot begin with "0." Direct Inward Dia -- aows caers from the pubic network to pace an individua ca to a radio by diaing a singe teephone number, instead of one teephone number to ca Jessica and a second series of numbers to indicate the Logica ID (LID). To accompish this, the LID is mapped to a number. In some cases, the DID number wi be the LID. Dua Tone Muti-Frequency -- standard teephone diaing tones. Feature Code -- the MD110 feature code indicating that an authorization code (AC) is to be entered. This feature code is market-dependent and typicay is a singe digit. For exampe, a "6" is used as the FC in the U.S. Least-Cost Routing -- a function that aows the system to automaticay seect the most economica route for an outgoing ca. The seected route is based on trunk avaiabiity, cass of service, time of day, and week. LCR is avaiabe for outbound cas ony. Logica Identification -- individua radio or consoe ID. Ericsson PBX that provides connectivity to the PSTN. Private Branch Exchange -- a teephone switch commony used in business appications. Pubic Switched Teephone Network. 11
