Today s advanced sound reproduction technoogy ets you get extremey cose to the sound of a ive performance, but chances are you sti notice something missing: the acoustic environment of the ive concert ha. Extensive research into the exact nature of the sonic refections that create the ambience of a arge ha has made it possibe for Yamaha engineers to deveop their origina Digita Sound Fied Processing Technoogy to re-create the acoustic environment of a arge concert ha in a home audio istening room. Furthermore, our technicians, armed with sophisticated measuring equipment, have even made it possibe to capture the acoustics of a variety of venues such as an actua concert ha, ive house, etc. to re-create various types of actua ive performance environments for home audio use. The DSP programs on this unit are made on the basis of this technoogy. Doby Pro Logic Surround This unit empoys a Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder simiar to professiona Doby Stereo decoders used in many movie theaters. By using the Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder, you can experience the dramatic reaism and impact of Doby Surround movie theater sound in your own home. Doby Pro Logic empoys a four channe five speaker system. The Pro Logic Surround system divides the input signa into four eves: the eft and right main channes, the center channe (used for diaog), and the rear surround sound channes (used for sound effects, background noise, and other ambient noises). The center channe aows isteners seated in even ess-than-idea positions to hear the diaog originating from the action on the screen whie experiencing good stereo imaging. Doby Surround is encoded on the sound track of pre-recorded video tapes, aser discs, and some TV/cabe broadcasts. When you pay a source encoded with Doby Surround on this unit, the Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder decodes the signa and distributes the surround-sound effects. This Doby Pro Logic Surround Decoder empoys a digita signa processing system. This system improves the stabiity of sound at each channe and minimizes crosstak between channes, so that positioning of sounds around the room is more accurate compared with conventiona anaog signa processing systems. 26 USING DIGITAL SOUND FIELD PROCESSOR (DSP) This unit incorporates a sophisticated, muti-program digita sound fied processor. The processor aows you to eectronicay expand and change the shape of the audio sound fied from both audio and video sources, creating a theater-ike experience in your istening room. You can create an exceent audio sound fied by seecting a suitabe sound fied program (this wi, of course, depend on what you wi be istening to), and adding desired adjustments. In addition, this unit incorporates a Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder for muti-channe sound reproduction of sources encoded with Doby Surround. The operation of the Doby Pro Logic Surround decoder can be controed by seecting a corresponding DSP program. Brief Overview of Digita Sound Fied Programs The foowing ist gives you a brief description of the sound fieds produced by each of the DSP programs. Keep in mind that most of these are precise digita recreations of actua acoustic environments. The data for these sound fieds was recorded at actua ocations using sophisticated sound fied measurement equipment. For Karaoke For norma DSP-surround effect PROGRAM PRO LOGIC STEREO LIVE HOUSE HALL BALLAD POPS JAZZ ROCK FEATURE This program is used for payback of sources encoded with Doby Surround. The appication of a sophisticated digita signa processing system reduces crosstak and directs or steers the sound source more smoothy and precisey, as compared to conventiona types. This program is effective not ony for payback of sources encoded with Doby Surround, but aso for sources not with Doby Surround or TV programs with -channe stereo sound. With this program, - channe stereo sound is converted into -channes (eft main, center and right main), so the diaogs are emphasized on the center position by the use of the center speaker. As no sound is output from the rear speakers, this program is aso effective in a simpe Audio/Video system without rear speakers. This program simuates the acoustic environment of a ive house. An energetic sound fied is created with reativey cear refections by the wa. In this program, the center wi appear to be deep behind the main speakers, creating an expansive arge ha ambience. Vocas move your heart with deep and cear reverberations. This program is suitabe for sow baads, etc. Vocas are emphasized and whoe sound is cear. This program is suitabe for pops. This is a sma, cozy jazz cub with a ow ceiing. The sound is very cose and intimate. This program is ideay suited for rock music. You wi experience a very dynamic or ivey sound fied. 6
