4 1. Safety features and safety precautions You have chosen a meter which offers you a very high degree of safety. This meter Gamma 2 is manufactured and tested in compiance with the safety standard IE 611-1:21 / DIN EN611-1:21. In case of incorrect use or careess handing, the safety of both user and mutimeter is not assured. To maintain the safe and proper condition of the meter and to ensure their safe operation, it is absoutey necessary to carefuy and competey read these operating instructions before using any meter. These instructions must be foowed in a respects. or your safety and for protection of the meter, this meter is fitted with an Automatic termina Bocking System It is couped with the function seector switch which bocks the termina sockets not necessary for measurement. Pease note the foowing safety precautions: The meter must be operated ony by persons who understand the danger of shock hazards and know how to appy safety precautions. Shock hazards exist wherever votages of more than (TRMS) can appear. Do not work aone in shock hazardous environment whie carrying out measurement. The maximum permissibe votage between termina Socket (7) and ground is 1. Take into account that unexpected votages can occur on device under test (e.g. defective instrument). apacitors may be charged to a dangerousy high votage, for instance. erify that the test eads are in good condition, e.g. no cracked insuation, no open circuits in the eads or connectors. You must ony use the meter in power systems, when the current circuit is protected by a fuse or a circuit breaker of 2 A, and when the nomina votage of the system does not exceed 1. or safe votage measurements on power systems, up to 1 we recommend the KS measuring adapter, which is avaiabe as accessory. Its interna resistance imits the measuring current in the case of over votage and incorrect operation and safey suppress sparking from spark gaps. If a fuse of other cut-out capacity, other nomina current or other switching capacity is used, a dangerous situation exists for you, and there is danger of damaging protective diodes, resistors or other components. Appendix 18.1 A current measurement with (cip-on) current transformers Transformer output ma/a aution: If current transformers are operated with an open circuit on the secondary side, e.g. due to defective or disconnected eads, a bown fuse In the meter, or a wrong connection, dangerousy high votages can occur at the connectors. Therefore, verify that the current circuit of the meter and the secondary winding of the transformer connected to the meter form an intact circuit. onnect the transformer to the sockets ^ and ma and/or A. The maximum permissibe operating votage is the nomina votage of the current transformer. hen reading the measured vaue, take into account the transformer ratio and the additiona error in indication Transformer output Severa transformers are fitted with a votage output (designation m/a). Maintenance aution Disconnect the meter from the measuring circuit before you open it to repace the battery or the fuse! Battery Prior to initia start-up, or after storage of meter, verify that the batteries of meter does not eak. Repeat this check in reguar short intervas. If the battery eaks, competey remove the battery eectroyte carefuy with a moist coth and insta a new battery before you operate meter again. hen the symbo " " (17) appears on the LD (1) repace the battery as soon as possibe. You can continue to measure, but a reduced measuring accuracy must be taken into account. The meter operates with 9 fat ce battery according to IE 6 22 or IE6 Lr61 or with a suitabe Nid storage battery. Repacing the battery Pace the meter on its face, oosen the two screws on the rear and remove the ower part of the case, ifting it from the bottom. The ower and the upper part of the case are fixed together at the top on the front by means of wedges. Remove the battery from the compartment and carefuy disconnect the contacts from the battery. Snap the connection contacts to a new 9 battery and insert the battery in to the battery compartment. Repace the ower part of the case. Start at the top on the front and take care that the detent hooks are propery engaged at this point. Tighten the ower part with the two screws. Therefore, the meter must be disconnected from the measuring circuit prior to opening its case for repair or repacement of parts. If repair cannot be avoided uness the meter is opened and ive, this work must ony be performed by a quaified person who understands the danger invoved. austs and extraordinary stress hen it must be assumed that the safe operation is no onger possibe, take the meter out of service and secure it against accidenta use. It is assumed that safe operation may not be possibe, when the meter shows obvious signs of damage, when the meter no onger functions correcty, after proonged storage under adverse conditions, due to severe stress during transportation. 2. Switching the meter "ON Battery it the meter with a 9 fat ce battery provided aong with the meter. Before you use the meter for the first time or after storage, refer to Section "16.1 Maintenance-Battery". Switching the meter "ON Press the "ON/O" pushbutton (2). Switch-"ON" is acknowedged by a sound signa. As ong as you keep the pushbutton pressed, a segments of the iquid crysta dispay (LD) wi appear. The LD is shown on page 2. After the pushbutton is reeased, the meter is ready for operation. Note: Eectric discharges and high-frequency interference may cause incorrect information to be dispayed and bock the measuring process. Reset the meter by switching it O and ON again otherwise, check the battery connections. Disconnect the meter from the measuring circuit before you open it, and see section "16.Maintenance"! Automatic TURN - O The meter turns off automaticay, when the measured vaue remains constant (variations of the measured vaue < + 2digits) for about 1 minutes and when neither a pushbutton nor the function seector switch is operated during that time. How to prevent automatic TURN-O Switch your meter to "ONTINUOUSLY ON" mode. To do this, press yeow muti-function pushbutton (5) and the "ON/O" pushbutton (2) together. The function "ONTINUOUSLY ON" is shown on the LD (1) by the symbo ON (8).

Autoranging is automaticay seected after switching the Mutimeter ON. According to the measured quantity appied, the mutimeter automaticay seects the measuring range which gives the best resoution. hen switching to frequency measurement the previousy seected votage measuring range is maintained. The seected unit of measure and the current type are aso dispayed. A minus sign appears in front of the number for the measurement of zero-frequency direct quantities, if the positive poe of the measured quantity is appied to perpendicuar input. OL (overoad) is dispayed, if the actua vaue fas above the measuring range upper imit for the foowing measured quantities: D, ID, A,IA,mAA,mAD, Ω,:. This prevents the contineous dispay of an undefined condition which was present at the start of measurement, e.g. open-circuit, as a maximum vaue.. > 5dB 26 D 4.1 Backit The instrument is provided with user seectabe Backit for measurements in poor ight conditions or dark area. Switching the Backit ON and O: By pressing AUTO/MAN and DATA/MIN/MAX keys simutaneousy the Backit can be switched ON. And by pressing the same keys simutaneousy Backit can be switched O. 7

8 5.DATA HOLD faciity. Measurement vaues can be automaticay frozen with the data function. This can be especiay usefu when your fu attention is required for testing the measuring point with the test probes. After the measurement vaue has been acquired, and the appropriate condition has been fufied according to the foowing tabe, the measurement vaue is dispayed in the eft hand sub-dispay and two acoustic signa sounds. At the same time MAN appears and indicates that the measuring range is now set. The test probes can now be removed from the measuring point and the measurement vaue can be read from the subdispay. It is an adapter for meter which eiminates dangers caused by overvotages and incorrect operation of the meter. It provides the foowing protective functions.. The symbos D and A (11) are dispayed as per seected function on the LD. hen seecting a range with the function seector switch (6), the D+A function is aways set by defaut. hen pressing the yeow muti- function pushbutton (5) for a ong time, the mutimeter aways switches back to D + A and acknowedges this by two sound signas. E onnect the mutimeter in series with the oad, as shown. Ensure that the connections are tight (without contact resistance). Notes on urrent measurement : The mutimeter must be used ony in the power systems, where the current circuit is protected by a fuse or a circuit breaker of 2 A and when the nomina votage of the system does not exceed1. Make the measuring circuit connections mechanicay strong and secure so that they do not accidentay open. The conductor cross sections and connection points shoud be designed to avoid excessive heating. On the ma and 1 ma ranges, an Intermittent sound signa warns you, when the Measured vaue exceeds the upper range imit. The current measuring ranges upto ma are protected to a short circuit current of 25 A by a fuse 1.6 A/1 A/D in conjunction, with power diodes. The cut-out capacity of the fuse is 1kA at a rated votage of1 A/D and ohmic oad. The current measuring ranges up to 1A are protected by a16a/1 fuse. The cut-out capacity of the fuse is ka at a nom. votage of 1 and ohmic oad. A bown fuse is signaed on the LD the instant a measured quantity having a votage of more than 4 is appied to the corresponding connection sockets. Then, the digita dispay (9) shows the word " USE" After a fuse has bown, eiminate the cause of the overoad before using the meter again! Repacement of the fuses is described in section 16. Maintenance. 8.1 Simutaneous requency and A current measurement: hen in A current measurement (ma or A), briefy press yeow mutifunction push button(s). Now meter measures frequency on main dispay and A current on sub dispay. requencies up to 4 K can be measured, but current is measured accuratey up to 1 K. To exit this mode press yeow muti-function push-button(s ) for ong time. This is acknowedged by the buzzer sounding twice. 2 1
